Editorial review from Citysearch 9/12/2013

This is a restaurant where you can get the healthiest fresh vegetable dishes and or fish, to the most calorie loaded stuff imaginable. My wife and I are on fat conscious diets and we go for the healthy side of the offerings. But no matter what your diet, everything is very good. One warning though, no credit cards so bring cash or a check, they are not happy when you only have credit cards. more

Cleburne Cafeteria for holiday meals 3/22/2012

For the last two years our family has ordered from Cleburne's for holiday meals. Each time the turkey has been juicy and succulent; the casseroles have been delicious and the fruit salad comprised of chunks of expensive and ripe fruit. It is a little pricey, but it's worth not spending a day and a half in the kitchen and the family cooks voted that it's more than worth our time and energy. The only drawback is having to pick it up on Friday for a Sunday meal since they are closed Saturday. It is worth every penny. We're doing it again for 2012 Easter. more

The Best Cafeteria in the U.S. 9/9/2010

Since we discovered the Cleburne, we have not been back to Luby's , Furr's or Picadilly. The secret in going to any Cafeteria is carefully picking, what is fresh. This poses a problem for many. The selection of main course meals at Cleburne's is incredible. Cleburnes has plenty of fresh food choices that are healthy and reasonably priced. I recommend this place whole heartedly. We have eaten in many Cafeteria's across this country, and the Cleburne is deserving of a 5 Star rating!! more

OVERPRICED TASTELESS FOOD! 4/29/2009

I had been a few years ago and was not impressed, however friends that had not been wanted to go there so I said ok. My food was $2 more than the posted price and when I pointed it out they informed me they had a price increase but had not changed it on the board yet. I paid the inflated price and after two bites took the food back and got my money back. The country fried steak was tough and totally tasteless. Spend your money someplace else. I'm a native Houstonian and I can tell you this place is over priced and the food is terrible, just as I had remembered from the previous visit! My friends said they wished they had listened to me and not insisted on going there. It's just plain bad! Pros: Nothing comes to mind. Cons: Bad food with high prices. more

Good Food, but Fattening! 6/30/2008

If you are on a diet, this is not the place to go. Most food items are full of 'fat grams' and we will not be able to eat here very often. We enjoyed the food and most everything we got tasted good. The turkey and dressing is wonderful. Food portions are big. I also got the Coconut Pie, but wasn't pleased with that. more

Not what we wanted 8/2/2006

We went to this restaurant based on all of the good reviews and found that we were extremely disappointed. We thought it would be better than Luby's or Furrs and more of a modern take on cafeterias, but it was not. This is a typical cafeteria style eatery with very few healthy items available. They DO NOT take credit cards so make sure you remember that before you go. The prices were much higher than we expected and we ended up spending $20 each for what tasted like $10 food. more

YUMMMMM 11/14/2005

This is my favorite place! Some of the best ""home cooking"". We walked in thinking...Luby's. We sat down to eat thinking ...Luby's. We tasted, and thought...this is no Luby's! And the deserts taste sooo good and are so big. We felt greedy just having on the table with us. Pros: food, selection, taste Cons: a little pricey, hours more

Best in Houston 10/31/2005

I've been going to Cleburne for over 15 years on a regular basis and have never had a bad meal. Fresh fruits and veggies, consistently high quality entrees and more-than-generous portions. The only reason to avoid Cleburne is if you are on a diet--the desserts are first-rate. There is no comparison between this privately owned cafeteria and other generic corporate ones. Recommended without reservation! Pros: Fresh foods, Clean, Large portions more

Wonderful eatery 5/8/2004

I love this place: always have, always will. Cleburne's never fails to be a great place to take your entire family to eat well for a reasonable price. Their salads are always fresh, their baked items are nicely prepared and never cold (even by the time you get to your table and sit down to eat), and their desserts are unbelievably yummy. Although the line is often out the door, it moves fairly quickly, and once you're inside you get to view all the pictures they have up of their family and previous locations. I've never been disappointed by anything here, nor have I been treated rudely by the staff like I have at other places. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. Go try it! more

OK but could be better 3/11/2004

They have trouble with quality control. The same food items can be prepared and taste different from day to day. For the prices they charge, I want consistency. Be forwarned, they do NOT accept credit cards. CASH ONLY. I've had to pass them by many times for lack of spending money on me. Also, if you plan on take out, you will have to stand in an unorganized arrangement at the end of the line. They really need a separate window or line for take out. Pros: fast moving line, large selection, very clean Cons: , Inconsistant quality more

Best place in Houston 7/11/2003

Cleburne's is such a great place to go They have excellent food that is so appetizing the minute you walk in and see it. The pictures on the walls of the family is so nice to look at when you have to wait in line, but the wait is so worth it and the line goes really fast. Everything is home made, and they have to have the best Chicken and Dumplings ever made, along with the best cakes and pies. They also add some Greek foods that come around every so often. And it is a great place to take your kids and have them eat healthy too! more

Mac & Cheese mm pleeze! 8/8/2002

This is the best little cafeteria styled resturant in Houston (in my opinion). You must try the made from scratch (as is everything else) mac & cheese.. all the vegetables are fresh and straight from farmers market and the meats are fresh never frozen, and last but not least the DESSERTS OMG you will think that you've died and gone to heaven, homemade banana pudding, bread puddding, cakes & pies, I guarantee you won't leave hungry or dissappointed! more
