The food here was really fun and interesting: spicey novel sushis, fun salads, and yummy tacos. We order a ton of margaritas in lots of fruit flavors and they were really fresh an...

eh 6/6/2007

I don?t know about this place. I had my eye for a few yrs now and last wk I finally decided to try it. since my friend was running late, I sipped on their nice pineapple margarita, very good, very strong so I was in a good mood already. I had: the chopped salad (boring), the tuna tartare special (not very good, I feel like I haven?t had very good tuna tartare in a LONG time, ugh!), and the taco trio tasting (good but ive had better at a hole in the wall Mexican place). my friend had the shrimp tempura roll (ok but again, nothing that you couldn?t get at your neighborhood sushi place) and the ?Char Grilled Brandt Natural Cheese Burger? w/ Belgium fries, pepper black cheese & bbq onions ? thankfully she gave me a bite, bc it was delicious and surprisingly better than everything I ordered. all in all, I think this place is better for a few drinks and dinner elsewhere. more

THE WORST SERVICE EVER! 2/20/2007

I went to Citrus to celebrate my friend's birthday for dinner. However, I ended up leaving this place with horrorible experience. A piece of an alumnium foil came out from my sushi roll that I had ordered. The manager did not even come to the table to apologize. In addition, the waitress charged my sushi roll when I got the bill. I had to send my check back to her and ask not to charge when there was somethine other than what menu describes in my sushi roll. What a service!! I don't care how popular this restaurant is but the service was just simply terrible!!! Cons: bad service to the customers more

Unique Taste 1/25/2007

The food is a creative fusion of Latin American and Japanese flair, an interesting combination. The spicy tuna roll had banana in it as well, which made for a really unique taste that I at first had to get used to, but then LOVED. Everything was creatively seasoned and the added pizzazz of it really helped dress up a normal boring dish. I'll definitely go back. Pros: Ambience, Interesting food more

disappointing 1/14/2007

We went there on New Year's Eve. It was a set menu at $85 per person and included dancing downstairs. Not a bad deal, we thought. We made a 930 reservation. The service was good, but the meal wasn't. My meal was over cooked and luke warm. It was 45 minutes before the ball dropped and our meal was just being served. And when we went downstairs there was only a hand full of people. I would not recommend this place. more

Worst Restaurant in the city!! 10/31/2006

Maybe if the food was good, I could overlook the horrible service, but it is one step above microwave dinners. do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Pros: Location...I live in the UWS Cons: Pretentious Staff more

good food, with only a few small bumps 3/12/2006

Like everyone else is saying, the tuna salad (rather, the tuna in the salad) was amazing. It was incredibly soft and melted in your mouth. Order it as really rare, not just 'seared'. The pepper corn cooked crust will be just the right thickness. The salad in the salad was chopped, so it lost a bit of its taste and tasted bitter. The shrimp quesadilla wasn't all that good. Bland, very few (small) shrimps. The service was pretty good, though we were there early on a Sunday night, not too many other patrons, though it started getting fuller by the time we left around 8. The bar off to the side was full and lively the entire time, though we didn't try the drinks (the tall margaritas did look impressive and popular). The hand fed (err, farmed) salmon smelled great across the table, as did the other tuna dish. Pros: tuna salad, tuna salad, chips Cons: greens in the salad more

Viva la Citrus!!! 3/12/2006

Don't come to Citrus for a quiet meal. Citrus is a fun place for a crowd of friends or just to people-watch. Great food, wonderful drinks, and great staff make Citrus not only a great neighborhood spot, but also a good spot to meet-up with friends for a strong, well shaken cocktail and a light meal with friends in the UWS. more

Great Sushi too 1/5/2006

They started us with complimentary chips and homemade salsa. The salsa is good. Second course was sushi (Dragon Roll) for my date, and I had the pepper crusted tuna salad. The dragon roll was artistically prepared and presented and had a nice combination of texture and flavour. It was right up there with some of the best sushi places in the city and well above most places. My tuna salad was top-notch. The tuna was seared to perfection, the pepper did not overpower the salad which was combination of ingredients done in a sesame dressing was a perfect balance for the tuna. In some places the tuna is a lesser quality than they use for the sushi, but not at Citrus. This was very fresh, deep red, sushi quality tuna. These guys know fish and do not scrimp on the quality or freshness of any of their ingredients. Pros: Sushi, Margarita, Freshness Cons: Noise level more

Love the brunch! 10/19/2005

Have been here for brunch a few times and love the food each time. Have had pancakes, eggs and french toast - all very good. Service can be spotty but not too bad unless you are in a rush. Pros: food Cons: service a bit slow more

Was not impressed 2/14/2005

It was immediately obvious that our server was not interested in the least to wait on our table. It's a shame as we were interested in giving her out business. It seems more often these days the service I receive from Citrus is like that of an Amsterdam (Holland) diner. The visits by the server are few and far between and worse the assistants are left holding the bag and only 20% of the total tip to show. I wish there was more I could say, sushi was small, rolls were unimpressive, and the empty state of my drink left more to be desired. more

Great food, ambience, service! 10/18/2004

I organized a dinner for 20 and was extremely satisfied with the results. Ambience was classy, well-decorated, great use of lighting; servers were friendly, competent and accomodating. Food was perfect - delicious, well-seasoned, prepared and presented - and great for the price. Everyone enjoyed themselves and I would absolutely return given the opportunity. more

A-MAY-ZING!!!!!!! 9/15/2004

I went to citris with some friends not knowing what to expect. it turned out to be the coolest, most original restaurant i have ever been to. I got the special rolls on the entree part of the menu (tuna with mango, salmon with banana) although it doesnt sound yummy....i would have it in a second...except for the fact that it is three FULL rolls...18 pcs...which is a little much for me. All of my friends, even Ms. Picky, could find something delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for great food. Also, across the street is a terrific bakery, CRUMBS, which is definately worth trying the cupcakes at. Pros: original, good area Cons: , dessert more

How good is this 7/22/2004

here's a place I've been a dozen times and its good... the steak is hit or miss (I've had really good cuts and some really bad cuts) but the Miso SeaBass is to die for... Its right there with Nobu and sushi samba. The Pineapple maragita rocks (but watch out cause you cant tell your drunk till you stand up) best margaritas and awesome food what more do i need to say... its a great date spot... but also works well for a party of 8 for a birthday dinner. Pros: best margaritas , awesome food , crowded more

the best summer spot! 5/18/2004

i would move there for the summer if they'll let me. best margaritas and awesome food. the selection is incredible and their sushi tops nobu if you ask me... enjoy! Pros: 12 flavored margarita, rockin' cafe, extensive menu more

oh it's finally summer... 5/17/2004

outdoor cafe, frozen margaritas, a sushi roll to start, skirt steak to follow, and a chocolate souffle to finish. ok, and maybe a mojito or two... i wish i had one thing to recommend but i would have to write out the entire menu! i am not ashamed to say i eat there everyday. don't miss the yellowfin tuna steak - it's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo gooodddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd. Pros: awwsome food, awsome sushi, great service more

Favorite NY Restaurant 7/11/2003

Citrus is my and my husband's favorite NYC restaurant! The location is great (check out the Upper West Side!) and the food is wonderful. The warm corn salsa and chips they bring is so tasty and will fill you up!! We love to start with some sushi appetizers. My husband always gets the Marinated & Grilled Canadian Natural Skirt Steak, and I get the Wasabi-Edamame Crusted Canadian Salmon. We are stuck on these favorites, as they are delicious every time, but the rest of the menu looks just as fabulous. Whenever we have out-of-town guests, we bring them here. The drink menu is very innovative, and we like the wine selection. On Valentine's Day, they had a very creative menu special for the day. I would recommend calling ahead, but if you have to wait for a table, they have a beautiful modern bar you can wait at. Enjoy!! Pros: Menu, Drink list, Atmosphere Cons: Closeness of tables more

great place to eat with friends 6/16/2003

citrus has a wonderful, upbeat atmosphere. the food is good, but not great. the drinks are ok - try the red sangria. Pros: prompt seating, good drinks, home delivery Cons: neighborhood more

UWS Hotspot 5/13/2003

I always have a great meal at Citrus. Love the sushi and quesadillas. Margaritas are a nice complement to the meal. The place is stylish, busy and has lots of energy! Great place for dinner with friends. Pros: great sushi, attentive service more

Great Time 5/7/2003

I have been to Citrus many times. Its always been great food, good service, fun drinks and an enjoyable time. The menu has a great selection, you can always try something new; however, the chicken salad is incredible! The ambiance has so much energy - it can be great for a date, or party out with friends. I have never done wrong at Citrus! Its a experience you will definitely enjoy:) Pros: good drinks, great ambiance, good food more
