Editorial review from Citysearch 11/5/2012

After reading all of these rave reviews, we decied to try it while we were in town It was okay - just okay. For the flavor, I thought it was over priced. I don't mind paying $$$ for a great meal, but not an okay one. more

Great Lunch for not Much! 6/28/2011

I had a fantastic lunch at Christie's yesterday and had to write about it...especially since I'm going back again today! I really didn't know what I was craving for lunch, but I knew Christie's menu would have something great. I ordered the Blackened Salmon Greek Salad...YUM!! It hit the spot without breaking the bank...just $13.00. The service was fast and friendly, and I didn't feel rushed to eat and run. I also love the fact that it's family owned and operated. Makes me feel good about spending my money where it's appreciated! more

Satisfied my Fish Hunger! 12/7/2009

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent venture to Christies after doing some Christmas shopping at the Galleria. I had the old fashioned seafood sampler, while my fiancee had the chargrilled fish fillet with baked potato. Pros: Freshly battered shrimp Cons: Dining room a tad old-fashioned more

The worst restaurants I've been to!! 9/5/2009

Just left from having dinner there and will NEVER go back. Was expecting a great dinig experiance and left very disappointed. Where do I begin? The atmosphere was a big zero. The place was dark and old. I felt like I was in a retirement home cafeteria. I wanted to order a bottle of wine but the neither the waitress nor bar staff was familiar with any selections. They brought a tasting of the most bitter wine I have ever had and the the waitress said she would be back with something else and never returned. The dinner salad were okay but the italian dressing was completely watered down. The steak was very fatty and the lobster was tuff and overcooked. I can't say anything positive. I could have gone across the street to the Palm and had an excellent meal for my money. Don't bother with this one. Cons: Everything more

Nice place 7/25/2009

We went here the other night and started with drinks which came out promptly and were good at a reasonable price ($5.75). We ordered the oysters rockefeller for appetizer and they were some of best we've ever had. They were prepared in large shells and most had at least two oysters in each. The bacon bit on top was a bonus. For the entree I ordered the grilled fish (redfish) with vegetables and she ordered the calimari topped salad. My fish was a prepared with olive oil as it said in the menu and turned out delicious. The calimari was just right on her salad. We will definately come back. The service was excellent. There are better places for a lot more money, but if you want well prepared food and good service at reasonable prices, this is the place. Pros: Service, food, drinks, parking Cons: traffic on Westheimer more

Is that all you got? 7/17/2009

Yes, we read the reviews, thats why we went. The first clue came when we walked in Friday at lunch, only 6 people in the place. We really wanted it to be good so we just thought we beat the rush. The service was great because of the bordom. The cornbread was dry, the slaw good. I had the seafood pratter. The crab must fell off the shelf onto the plate, he was probably dizzy from starvation. The catfish couldn't feed from the bottom cause he was floating on top. The shrimp was okay and the fries were the best thing on the plate. But the service was great. Pros: good service Cons: food more

Gotta Love it 6/30/2009

I was visiting a friend of mine in Houston, and she suggested Christie's. The server suggested the Gumbo, which so GOOOD!! And the best was their FRIED SHRIMP!! Umm, who would have ever thought fried shrimp could taste so good. I definitely wanna come back the next time I'm in town. Pros: Location, Quality, Service Cons: Didn't feel any here more

Great seafood 10/14/2008

Have eaten at Christies many time over the years when visiting Houston and used to eat there with my father. Food is excellent and always consistent. The fried shrimp are fabulous. Service is generally good. Now that we live in Houston we eat there regularly. Great local restaurant with good fresh food. Pros: Great food and location Cons: Could use a little freshening up with decor. more

Not good 9/22/2008

The atmosphere is very ""old"". We had the raw oysters and their temperature was suspect. My bisque had the consistancy of mashed potatoes complete with a 'skin' on top. Service was slow. Pros: Location Cons: Food quality more

One of the best places for seafood! 7/23/2008

My husband and I have been coming here with family many a time, and here just recently for our anniversary. We love this place! We have never encountered a bad experience be it food, or service. Everything is consistently great! I usually get the half fried catfish, and half fried shrimp. Delicious! I love the homeade tartar sauce, as well as the homeade ranch dressing on your dinner salad! My husband really loves their seafood platters. If you're more a fan of steaks, try theirs...it's not disappointing at all! To round off a great meal, have a slice of carrot cake, or if you are like me, share a slice! Pros: Their food is delicious! Cons: Could use some better decor, and there is a hint of a bad smell...not terrible though. more

lousy atmosphere, subpar food, inexperienced waiter 1/13/2008

I've lived in Houston for a few years now and drove by this place more than a hundred times. No one I know has ever eaten there, so one night I decided to stop by. It was a Thursday evening, a fairly slow night. As soon as my boyfriend and I walked in, I wanted to leave. The atmosphere was dull, old, boring, the place was quiet, and the whole restaurant smelled old, moldy and stale. The lighting in the dining room was dim, but not at all romantic. The few other tables that were occupied were mostly older people, seniors. Our waiter was a young kid who appeared to have never waited tables before. He was shy, nervous and uncertain in his answers about the menu. We decided to stay nonetheless: give this place a chance, it's been in business for so long, there's gotta be something good about it, I thought. Not so. When the food came out, I was disappointed. I couldn've gotten the same fried catfish and mash potatoes at Lubby's. It just all tasted like school cafeteria food. From then on, everytime I drive by and see cars parked outside this restaurant, I'm amazed how this dive still attracts customers: must be unknowing newcomers like myself. Cons: ambience, service, food more

Our Favorite Restaurant 7/21/2007

Just returned from dinner there and had to write....I got engaged here, had my rehearsal dinner here and every anniversary since. For the past 8 years! I feel like Christie's is a part of my life and it is more than a restaurant to me, it is comfort. I love the fried shrimp, of course, but everything is good. And the staff tries so hard to make everyone comfortable and happy. I am one happy loyal customer that recommends Christie's to all. Just don't all rush at the same time, I don't like waiting too long for a table! :) Pros: The atmosphere, the food, the people Cons: I have to wait for a table sometimes :)! more

not baby friendly 6/19/2007

went to eat 6-15 at 4:00pm. took our 10 week old baby after checking website to make sure was kid friendly. well of course the baby started screaming. there was only 3 other couples in the place. the ""manager"" basically asked us to leave. my husband kept walking the baby around trying to settle him down. i was trying to get the waiter to get the bill. ""manager"" told him baby liked it better outside. it was a bad experience that i will not repeat. more

So Goooood! 2/21/2007

Went for dinner with my family and couldn't beleive the portions or the taste! I had the ribeye with fried shrimp and took half home because it was too much. Had a crawfish bisque and it was velvet, never tasted anything so smooth. My brother had the stuffed snapper and it was so fresh he said better than anything he's had anywhere. Love this place! the remolaude sauce is unbelievable- they should sell that in stores! We'll be back soon! Pros: Good portions, flavorful Cons: there is not one in the woodlands! more

Disappointed... 1/16/2007

I was disappointed by my recent dining experience there. The service was very slow. The waitress was not very attentive - I ordered a raspberry margarita and received one with no identifiable fruit flavor; my friend did not get the cheesecake she ordered. The flavor of the food was unimpressive and not worth the price? I will not be coming back there? more

Very Disappointed 1/11/2007

My friends and I were so excited to try Christie's out. There were ten of us in our group and it was not a busy night. Half of the people in my partie's food was cold. The steak was not impressive at all. It was really thin and cold. I have had much better steak at Outback for half the cost. The fried shrimp was good but I think it is way overrated. In the end, we felt that our money did not match the quality of the food we recieved. Cons: steak and temperature of food more

Fill me up 1/21/2006

I eat out almost 6 times a week with my job and I love coming to Christie's because it just feels like home. A family run restaurant that is not too common anymore. I love to get their sauteed crabmeat and big baked potato and a salad with their own ranch dressing. The service is so friendly and there is this girl,I think her name is Maria, has the best smile. Really makes every customer feel special. The Blackberry margaritas are perfect after work! Christie's is perfect. more

Yummy Yummy Yummy 9/18/2005

The service-So great i didnt like one thing i ordered and the waitress changed my order and did not charge me for the order i did not eat. The food-Awesome, fresh, I just didnt have a taste for the first thing i ordered, their po-boys are just delightful, delightful The Drinks-Ahhh the best margaritas ever, try the melon its to die for Pros: tasty, good service Cons: bland atmosphere more

It's worth it 8/3/2005

I hear Roula and Ryan talking about it on the radio so me and my mom decided to go for lunch. What a refreshing lunch it was. I had a greek salad that was HUGE! and my mom had the famous fish sandwich also huge! I did not think restaurants still existed where the family actually runs it. I saw a tall young man that I assume is Roula's brother walking around to check the tables. Our food came out pretty quickly and my salad had just the right amount of dressing and my mom said it was the most filling sandwich she had ever had. It is now on our regular rotation of resataurants when we are in the Galleria area. I highly reccommend it. Good job Christie's! Pros: Food, Service, Price more
