We will give Chesdin another try only because we go to the lake quite often in the summer and we used to love this restaurant. The problem with the food should have been caught i...

No more good service 6/13/2006

I guess it had to happen sooner or later. Chesdin Restaurant changed hands and it's no longer the special place it used to be. The nice view is still there but the food and the service are sorely lacking. Fortunately, it's not so bad that you can't still enjoy yourself. As long as you don't expect too much or, if you go there for the first time, it might be okay. I wish the previous owners were still there but, I guess they deserve to retire. Pros: Real nice view Cons: Mediocre food, sloppy service more

Overrated 6/9/2006

Decent restaurant, but it is definitely overrated from my perspective. None of the steaks were done right and the waitress couldn't keep straight who had what. Portion sizes are small and the night we were there, the hostess did not treat our group with as much respect as she should have. There were only six of us but our checks were all messed up. All in all, I would not return to this restaurant. Pros: Nice setting Cons: Bad Service more

Fabulous View 6/8/2006

The atmosphere is really nice being on the lake. The food was only so so and the staff although extremely pleasant do not seem very professional. It comes off as a mom and pop kind of place although their prices would indicate otherwise. Good luck to the new owner. The place has a lot of potential. Pros: Waterfront with a great view Cons: Food and service needs improvement more

wow!!!! 6/7/2006

The food was excellent I woudn't change anything now that Glen Bailey is running things. I was treated Badly when I dined there a year ago. I recently ate there agian when I heard it had new management. If you have not had the plessure of dining there you really need to do so. My whole expirence there is somed up in one word WOW!!! Pros: Wronderful FOOD Cons: Out the way but worth it more

Waited too long 6/7/2006

It never used to matter how slow or busy this restaurant was, we always got good food and good service. We went there last Saturday and found out that the place has new owners. It kind of looks the same still but there's an obvious difference with the food and the service. They weren't that busy but it still took a very long time for us to get our food. I realize that this isn't a place that you can rush but 45 minutes between courses is too long. Plus, the food just isn't as good and the service is no where near what it used to be. more

What happened 5/3/2006

It figures that just when we find a great place close to home, it changes hands and all the good things about it leaves with the old owners. Some of the same staff is there but it's obvious they miss their former bosses. The food is still pretty good but the overall experience is no longer as pleasant. I hope the new owners get it together because we love going there. Pros: Fresh food, helpful staff more

Tried it again 5/1/2006

We waited a while before going back to see if there were any improvements. Actually, I think it got worse. Maybe it's the heat. The seafood is drenched in butter and it's all masked with some kind of unpleasant spices. One of the guys got steamed shrimp and that was good so I guess that is still safe to order. The steaks just don't taste as fresh, nor does the seafood. Plus, I miss the romantic music that used to play. The place seems cheaper but the prices don't reflect the down grade in atmosphere and service. Maybe they'll get better when it cools down. Pros: Beautiful view Cons: Too far away for the value more

Not just Seafood 4/6/2006

Most of the people I know recommended this place for seafood but I'm a steak person so, I thought I wouldn't find something I like. I was dead wrong. I had one of the best filet mignons I've ever eaten. It was cooked to perfection and that seldom happens for me. The prices are right in line with the bigger chains so I don't know why anyone would go to louder, noisier places. I'm hooked. Pros: Not crowded, easy parking, clean Cons: Out of the way more

We tried Chesdin Restaurant on Valentine's night for our first visit there. Usually, you can't judge a restaurant on such a night but, this place is amazing. I could see that they were quite busy but the staff was cool and calm and they seemed to be having a good time. The owner took her time to go over some wine choices with us as she ignored the ringing phone. She focused completely on us. Her suggestion was perfect, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. It's quite obvious that the staff at this restaurant takes pride in what they do and they all seem to be real proud of where they work. We will definitely go back. Pros: Intimate, Special, Pleasant Cons: Off the beaten track more

This is a great restaurant. Fresh food, great drinks and excellent service. They have better than average wine selections at very reasonable prices. I'm able to bring hard to please relatives to Chesdin Restaurant and I don't have to worry whether or not they'll like it. They always love it just like I do. more

Who knew?? 1/17/2006

A lot of people told us about this place and I'm so glad my husband and I finally took the time to find it and eat there. I couldn't believe how good everything was and how reasonable the prices are. Some of my friends think it's a little on the expensive side but when you consider that all of their prices include salad, potato and vegetable, it's really not. All of those things are usually extra at other places, including some of the chain restaurants which I don't really like. Chesdin Restaurant has definitely earned a spot on our favorite places list. Pros: Fresh Food, Great Service, Cleanliness Cons: Remote location more

Closer to home than we thought 12/26/2005

We had read a review of this restaurant and promised ourselves to make the trip. What we found out is that it's closer than we expected. We live in Chesterfield about 15 or 20 minutes away. Not only can we save gas but we get great food and a beautiful view. I can't understand why this place isn't packed at all times. It was everything we counted on and more. The service is like no other place. We especially liked the fact that they really don't put a lot of additives in their food. It's obvious that they serve fresh, high quality food that doesn't need a lot of seasoning. That's perfect for those of us with food allergies. Pros: Easy access, Moderately priced, Waterfront more

What a hidden treasure on my side of the county. I'm so glad there is such a wonderful place so close to where I live. The food is divine, the service is top notch and you sure can't beat the view of Lake Chesdin. Why would anyone drive all the way to Richmond with a such a quality restaurant right in our back yards. Pros: Water access, clean, special more

We love the atmosphere of this place. The food is so good and the service is great. We had a very nice waitress who was brand new at this but, you'd never know it with the great service she gave us. The place is clean and the view is spectacular. We can't wait to go back. Pros: Intimate, Casual, Elegant more

My wife and I just moved out to this area. Most of our neighbors recommended that we try this nearby restaurant called Chesdin Restaurant. The place is beautiful. It's clean, nicely decorated and you can't beat the view. The atmosphere is perfect for a special night out or a week night break from cooking. This place has great food, great service and very friendly owners. We already feel like we're at home here so, we'll definitely go back. Pros: Reasonable, Upscale, Fresh food more

Great Place 12/22/2004

I hadn't been out to Lake Chesdin in years even though I live about 20 minutes away. My girlfriend convinced me to go and I'm real glad she did. My steak was awesome and she loved her stuffed flounder. Everything about the meal tasted completely fresh. The owner helped us pick a bottle of wine to have with dinner and she nailed it even though I thought I wouldn't like it. The place is really pretty and I promised my girlfriend we'd go back. Pros: Water view, Easy parking, Reasonably priced more

Cruise on Land 12/8/2004

The food, wine, service and atmosphere of The Chesdin Restaurant made my husband and me feel like we were on a luxury Cruise Ship. I can't decide which was the best thing about this restaurant it was all so good. I had the pan seared scallops and my husband had a perfectly cooked filet mignon. The food was so plentiful that I didn't think we could consume another morsel but we decided to share the chocolate cheese cake that our server said is ""made by Steve."" Although we weren't really celebrating an anniversary or birthday, our visit to The Chesdin Restaurant felt like a really special occasion. We can't wait to go back. more

Special Place 9/23/2004

What a nice place tucked away from the stresses of every day life. Chesdin Restaurant isn't hard to get to but you do have to know where you're going. Some nights it's so busy that you have to wait awhile but others you can get right in. My husband and I always make reservations now, just in case. I like all dinners I've had there. I'm a fan of filet mignon and when I get it there, it's always perfectly cooked. My husband likes the fried seafood. Our waitress told us that all of the dinners there are prepared fresh. I know I always like whether it's just me and my husband or us with some other family members or friends. When we have company, we take them to the Chesdin Restaurant. more

Relaxed dining 9/7/2004

Perfectly cooked, great quality steaks and fresh, delicious seafood are only a couple of the pluses of this fantastic waterfront restaurant. The view and the service alone would make this the place to get away from it all but the fact that you get great food too makes it real easy to go off the beaten track to get to it. The prices are more than reasonable for what you get. My wife and I really liked the fact that we were not rushed out of our seats. Instead, we were enjoying ourselves so much that we didn't even realize we had been there for three hours. The Chesdin is the perfect place for a special occasion or if you want to impress company. Pros: Excellent Service, Fabulous View, Great Food more

Waterfront Dining 8/19/2004

This beautiful lakefront restaurant has everything. The atmosphere is elegant yet casual, the service is professional yet friendly and the food is superb yet affordable. Chesdin Restaurant sits right on Lake Chesdin and although it is a little remote it is still quite accessible. We got a little antsy waiting for our main entrees but our server was very attentive and offered us more of their delicious home made bread as she explained that our food was being freshly prepared and some items take a little longer than others. It was well worth the wait since it was quite obvious that our food was not pre-prepared. I've never tasted anything so fresh. Pros: Moderately priced, Great wine list, Premium Bar more
