Shady auto shop for bicycles. They'll quote you something and charge you differently. Cons: Everything

A great team 7/25/2011

I have a 2003 Bianchi Pista Concept ,with a cracked seat-post tube. i brought it around to a multitude of bike shops in all five boros, many said it was useless. Others gave me quick fix ideas. None gave me any sense of security. Then some-one recommended CHELSEA BICYCLES. I brought the frame in, Rafael and his staff are a great team. They assured me they could fix it and make it stronger than when it was new. more

They did what I asked 7/18/2011

I've been to chelsea bicycles twice, once to buy a floor pump for a bike I bought online, and once just to fix a flat. They did what I asked; gave me the cheapest stuff they had and didn't try to up-sell. more

happy to accommodate me 7/15/2011

I was anxious i admit,so i visited the bike shop several times to see the progress and asked many questions in the process. Even my incessant queries did not bother them. RAFAEL was happy to accommodate me and show me in detail all the steps he was taking in fixing my frame. Three weeks later I was rewarded with a frame that looked so good they had three inquiries to buy it. more

THANKS AGAIN 6/15/2011

I found an old 70's lugged French bike in a yard sale. I started pulling parts off and got stuck at the bottom bracket and steering tube both needing to be re-cut. i have fixed up old bikes before, but never had so much trouble as this. I called around trying to find some-one with a die. Most had no clue about French threads,i looked up on line removing French bottom brackets; Sheldon Brown told me ""GOOD LUCK""....... one bike shop told me to call ""RAFAEL at CHELSEA BICYCLES"".i called, RAFAEL said no problem bring it in. I decided to make the long haul from Gowanus to Chelsea. The price was fair, but I did not think he could do it. I had spent hours trying, busting my hand open in the process. Sure enough RAFAEL got it out; threads still clean and undamaged.""he also had the right die to cut the steering tube"".he would not tell me how he did it , but i guess that's not important. At least i know it is possible. THANKS AGAIN RAFAEL..... more

Absolutely worth the visit, cheap parts and bikes and nice staff 6/10/2011

I need a clamp for the seat on my wife's Dahon bike. Chelsea bicycle was very helpful. A couple of weeks later we realized that that clamp was the wrong size (we never put it on). This time I brought the bike in and they exchange the clamp out for the correct one. They could not have been nicer. more

What a wonderful place, they fixed my oldie rightfully quick 6/6/2011

"WOW !! I just finished the nicest, smoothest ride i have had since i can remember. i owe it all to CHELSEA BICYCLES !!!. my bike had been making an annoying grinding noise with each pedal stroke. i had been to several ""reputable"" bike shops in Manhattan. after switching out the chain ring, rear cog, chain, the locking and rim problems persisted,NO-ONE could help. finally after much discussion in the back room of one shop, the mechanics told me to go to CHELSEA BICYCLES. RAFAEL is a miracle worker!!! his staff was super friendly, and explained in great detail and much enthusiasm what was being done to fix my frame, bottom bracket, and rear wheel. the work was done with precision, and very quickly for a very reasonable price. if you want MASTER CRAFTSMANSHIP from the very best there is,this is the place to go.i cannot say enough great things about CHELSEA BICYCLES!!, if you have any problem with your current ride,or are in the market for a new one. i urge you to check them out. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED..." more

Cheap prices, quick fix 5/31/2011

I went across the street to work and 10 minutes later my phone rang and the guy said they fixed my derailleur and my rear flat and the total would be $25. more

Close by, friendly people 5/27/2011

Like Laundromats and grocery stores in NYC, though, you generally want one pretty close to home. So this place comes in handy for those of us who live or work nearby. If you buy a bike here, they'll service it for free during the warranty period. more
