Scam artists 8/14/2016

TOTAL SCAM ARTISTS!!!! We brought our 98 Dodge Caravan in on Thursday 8/11/16 because it was leaking power steering fluid. They quoted us $1769 to replace the hoses and pump. Anyone who knows cars knows this is an OUTRAGEOUS estimate. We could replace the whole transmission for this cost!!! We took the vehicle to Charlie's Transmission in Durham, NC, and they did the repairs for $500. SO GLAD WE DID NOT WASTE MONEY ON THESE GREEDY PEOPLE!!!! Spend your hard-earned money elsewhere!! I was going to add a photo of our estimate but there does not appear to be an option for this. more

Overpaying for underwhelming 6/25/2012

Case in point - paying almost $140 for a battery that begins to fail within 2 1/2 years and then being told by Chapel Hill Tire that they used an a NAPA battery with a 18 month warranty because they were out of the better Interstate Batteries (2 year warranty). The average battery is generally 100% prorated at 3 years, but not in Chapel Hill Tire land. After I stopped going to these guys, I had to replace the battery from my other car. The cost was $95 with a 3 year warranty from the Dealership. Guess where I'm not going back to? more

Expect to have your vehicle searched and private property inspected 3/23/2012

I don't know what the policy is for most auto shops, but I found it really disconcerting that they went through my glove box for no reason at all (the documents they needed to inspect my windows were handed to them -- and that's all they were there to do). They found paperwork in there from another auto shop that I had visited for a second opinion, and confronted me with this information in an accusatory fashion -- as if they not only had the explicit right to ransack my private things, but then had the audacity to get upset about what they found. It's like snooping through someone's diary and they throwing a fit because they wrote something in there about you. I know some mechanics go into the glove box to find owner's manuals and such, but in this case there was no need. What were they looking for in there? And even after they did it, why create a scene over it? It was just awkward and unnecessary -- and it made them look bad. When I got back to my car, my glove box was hanging open and in a disheveled state -- with the paperwork in question sticking out. Bottom line: This place has no respect for your privacy -- and feels entitled to search your vehicle unannounced and without cause. Go somewhere else. more

BEST STORE IN TOWN 11/20/2006

Chapel Hill Tire at University Mall, I have found, is the best place in the area to have your vehicle serviced. I have lived in Chapel Hill for a number of years and have tried a variety of places, this one being the top of my list. As a single woman, sometimes going to a mechanic can be frustrating because you never know if you are being manipulated. Chapel Hill Tire - University Mall has always treated me with the utmost respect and kindness and has never made me feel as if I were being taken advantage of because I am female. Their prices seem to be extremely reasonable and much lower than their competitors in the area, even other Chapel Hill Tires. It's always a good idea to take your car in early if you don't want to wait, because they do seem to get very busy. On one occasion, though, when I couldn't wait, they actually took me where I needed to go and then came back and picked me up when my car was ready. Now that's what I call service!! more

Chapel Hill Tire 6/22/2006

Chapel Hill Tire is located in University Mall in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I have used them on a number of occasions, and I have always been pleased. I have never felt as if I were being suckered. In fact, I have always been very pleased with their service, even months afterwards. I have used this place with confidence every time. If they say it's going to be fixed at a certain time, it will be. They are very dependable and reliable. I recommend Chapel Hill Tire at four stars. more

Honest and quick 4/5/2006

I really appreciate the guys at Chapel Hill Tire. I took my 1992 Mitsubishi Montero there on many occasions, for everything from a tune up to tires to oil to state inspection. They have always been very honest with me. Leith Mitsubishi had a veritable fit about my car at one point - they were very concerned about an oil leak that had been discovered years earlier and periodically checked on. They wanted to do a lot of expensive work, in direct contradiction to my dad's mechanic in Asheville who said it was a tiny leak and not worth fixing. Chapel Hill Tire agreed with the Asheville mechanic and saved me a lot of worry and money. more

Competitively Priced 9/6/2005

Chapel Hill Tire is located at University Mall in Chapel Hill. I have taken my car here for an oil change. The price was better than a national chain such as Jiffy Lube, but the service was rather slow. Luckily it’s located near other stores so I didn’t mind waiting! I would go back here again for the prices. more

reasonable prices, quick service 8/31/2005

I've always been pleased with Chapel Hill tire for minor repairs and oil changes. They have much more reasonable prices than Jiffy Lube, and although they take a little longer, it's right there at University Mall, so I don't mind a little wait. I took my car in for one repair--a problem that had been recurring for years, and no mechanic had fixed it yet. I don't know what the problem was or how they fixed it, but it's been several months now and the car is running fine. It didn't cost me much for that repair--I only wish I'd gone to CH Tire first! more

Single Women Beware! 8/27/2005

I had a horrible experience at Chapel Hill Tire, and have heard similar stories from other women. Numerous men have told me of the great service they got there, but unfortunately, most single women I've talked to did not. I came in with a simple flat tire and left many hundreds of dollars later with the feeling that I'd been ripped-off for repairs I didn't need. They said the flat couldn't be fixed and they would have to sell me a new tire - but the tire was practically new, and I knew for a fact that they could have just patched the small leak. They found so many other small problems (my car was running fine when I brought it in) and overcharged for every single one. I was talked down to the entire time by a number of different male mechanics and staff members, and left feeling belittled and extremely frustrated. I'll never go back to Chapel Hill Tire! more

not out to rip you off 8/18/2005

I've taken my car to Chapel Hill Tire several times, for inspections, tune ups, and repairs. They are quick, friendly, and have never tried to take advantage of me and try to sell me unnecessary parts. Generally they work by appointment. A Borders and a Lowes are right near by for shopping while you wait. more

Seemingly honest/reputable auto repair 7/31/2005

Chapel Hill Tire has a good reputation in Chapel Hill. All of the mechanics that we have dealt with are knowledgeable and seemingly honest. On a couple occasions we exact same repairs done at the dealer and at Chapel Hill Tire. Chapel Hill Tire has always had lower prices. Also, they usually are rather quick. more
