Editorial review from Citysearch 9/27/2013

Ugh....where to start....\r \r I was impressed by the owner during the quoting process and the price was competitive. The demo started and went well, I even recommended the Company to my parents for their basement. Then it all went down hill. \r \r We were promised a ""team"" of their employees who were plumbing, carpentry, electrical, etc. professionals.....we ended up with a single sub contractor and an electrician who came for two days. We were not even told that our guy was a sub., we only figured it out by overhearing conversations and by talking to the guy. The guy doing the work admitted that he is an exterior guy and it had been a while since he did a basement or bathroom.\r \r The communication with the owner was terrible (and that is being generous). There was no communication regarding when materials should be selected and we received little/no guidance when making our choices. Then it would take forever to get ordered.\r \r The job was bid at 6 to 8 weeks.....it took 14+....\r \r The owner never listened and didn't communicate with the guy doing the work. We expected windowsills..got none. We expected six-panel doors ...we got flat hollow ones. Our tile was laid incorrectly and had to be pulled up and relaid.\r \r Everything was about money and so many things were half-assed. The biggest issue above everything else was the water heater. As part of the project, the water heater was to be replaced. Instead of doing it shortly after the demo, it was done at the very end of the project, after painting was done. And I swear it would have been forgotten if I didn't pester the owner about it. Instead of having a licensed plumber do it, the 70+ year old owner felt he should do it himself. I get home from work to see water all over the floor because he had no clue what he was doing. Instead of working on it, he was showing prospective customers the basement in progress. He was not able to fix it and we were not able to stay in our home for the night because the water was shut off...the owner went home to watch the Penguins game while we packed up our 9 month old daughter to go to my mother in law's. the owner also insisted that he could not install the water heater to code (trying to be cheap), but thankfully, the plumber did it to code. Just when we thought the nightmare was over, my wife started smelling gas. We called the gas company and they sent an emergency crew over. Apparently there was a major leak because the wrong-sized fitting was used and gas had built up in the ceiling. Our family could have died. The owner never took responsibility for it and never once did we get an apology for any of the issues.\r \r Everything was about money. We made the down payment and the first payment under the contract and after demo, he was already asking for another $5,000! We were not required to make another payment on the contract for weeks. Customers are just a source of cash....plain and simple.\r \r I also had to replace all of the outlets and switches on a sick day from work. Nobody asked what color electrical outlets, switches or plates we wanted, so when they used beige instead of white, we were not happy. Instead of taking care of it and having one of his guys do it, the owner had me replace them all......\r \r Now, four months after the project ended, we noticed water leaking under the bathroom sink. It turns out the pipes were not even finger tightened and have been leaking all summer. It took two weeks for him to get someone to our house to fix it, so we couldn't use the sink for two weeks. Also, it took 4 months for him to get us a new door that was damage when the carpet was installed (by a 3rd party).\r \r I would not recommend using this company. While the basement looks great, it was not worth the money, communication hassles, and quality/safety concerns. more

Best in Pittsburgh! 5/5/2011

I wrote reviews about these guys a few other places - but I want people to recognize just how satisfied I am with everything Bob Bruno and his team helped me with. I had NO IDEA what a headache it was going to be to find replacement windows. I tried easily 4 or 5 places before I found Certified Home Remodelers. Once I found them it was like my prayers had been answered! more
