Bargain Madness 8/21/2005

In case you haven't been here yet, let me just give you the most important piece of advice when shopping here - Do NOT go on the weekends (or after 4 pm). Try to go on a weekday morning when it isn't so crowded or you might end up with a stress ulcer. People are rude and push and poke and the salespeople are even worse. The bright side is when it isn't too crowded, you can sift through the racks and usually find a gem for a great price. more

you'll have to dig to find a prize 8/20/2005

Century 21 is located across the street from what was the World Trade Center and is now Ground Zero so it's kind of a weird place to go these days bargain shopping, what with the tourists and the hawkers selling unbelievably inappropriate things to the tourists but there you are. Century 21 is still a mecca for fashion savvy shoppers seeking labels at great prices. You never know what you'll find but you're sure to find something. The shoe department alone is usually worth the price of a subway ride although the selection can be uneven and it helps if you visit frequently. Nonetheless for anyone on a mission to score Euro designers, this is the place. more

designer brands at basement prices 8/19/2005

Looking for designer clothing at bargain basement prices? Well this is the place for you. When I worked downtown, I usually stopped by on my lunch breaks. They say shopping cures stress, and they’re right. The store itself is huge with over three floors of stuff. You can find brands like Prada, Gucci, Calvin Klein, and Hugo Boss just to name a few. The only problem is finding the right size. Seems that they hardly have my size for the items I want. I guess my size sells out fast. Their inventory are refilled daily so there’s enough for everyone to go around. One complaint is that items are often misplaced making it quite difficult to find. Overall this is a great place to get your designer clothing at 1/3 of its retail price. more

Love This Store! 8/19/2005

If there's on thing I miss about living in New York City, it's the Century 21 on Cortlandt Street! I lived in the Financial District and was in this store practically every day ... where else can you buy a brand new Versace jacket for $40?!? Century 21 has designer items at (almost) Kmart prices, so it's the perfect store for price-conscious fashionitas! I highly recommend a visit! more

Good Deals, Crazy Crowds 8/18/2005

You probably already know all about Century 21, which would explain why it is always so crowded and chaotic. You will find some good deals here, on suits, ties, underwear, shoes, kitchen supplies, bedding, etc. However, you must be patient and remain calm as thousands of tourists surge around you while you try to shop. The men's suit alcove on the balcony is probably the only calm place in the store, and also home to the only men's dressing rooms. more

Great Deals...pay with your time 8/17/2005

Century 21 is truly a hidden gem of New York. I doubt you can find another store that can match their prices. Whats more is that they carry the absolute best designers and only there can you find Boss, Versaci, Dunhill, Smith, Dior etc. all under one roof. The suits are by far the most amazing deals. $400 for $2000 dollar suits. Amazing! However there are downers…most importantly that it takes time to shop. The store is always filled with people and it is really hard to find your size. The lines are long and the sales associates unhelpful. Don’t expect to spend less than an hour there…..If you deal with the lines and crowds, don’t miss this great DEAL. more

Great clothing store 8/16/2005

I believe this was rated 2nd best bargain retail store in New York City. This is a great bargain store with brand name items. The prices are cheap and the clothes are great. You can find almost anything here. Century 21 is kind of like a smaller version of Macys. They do not just focus on a certain type of clothing, they have everything. The place is somewhat messy though due to the large crowds. They also have a store just for shoes. This is a really disorganized store, but with great deal on shoes. That's where I get my shoes from! more

Shopping! 8/15/2005

I love shopping at Century 21! Its is the best place to be bargain prices on designer items. It sells everything from clothing and socks to items for the home such as plates and electronic goods. I especially love shopping during tax free week. The whole store is taxed free. Its a good time to stock up on cosmetics and creams since they are never on sale. And if you spend over $100 (not sure if that is the correct amount) comsetics you get a $10 gift card for the store. It can get very crowded though so beware! more

"Best Kept Secret" 8/13/2005

It's true what they say... that Century 21 is New York's best kept secret. You can't perceive the amazing deals there until you see it for yourself. Things are cut to half price, then cut half price again. Still, this place has it's own pricey items. But you can always find something you want, and for a bargain as well. For example, swimsuits may be expensive, the their overcoats are discounted. So what happened what that some swimsuits and overcoats cost about the same.... 50 dollars. more

Good Designer Bargains 8/11/2005

Century 21 has really good designer bargains for those who love to shop. The only downside to the place are the crowds, service, and scatterness of items. If you hate crowds and don't enjoy searching through items this place may not be for you. If you like bargain hunting and love a good deal this place is for you especially for those who like designer jeans, handbags, and shoes. The shoes dept is pretty clean and organize. The handbag dept is a zoo especially during peak hours. You have to learn to navigate and push your way through. For jeans and designer clothing you have to go through racks to find what you are looking for. A good place to shop overall for both the gals and guys. more

Stay Away!!! 8/8/2005

If ever there could be the worst possible shopping experience ever-it would most certainly be at Century 21. My finance & I visited Century 21 about six months ago and were extremely disappointed by the absurdity of the customer service (if you could call it that), crowds and unruly organization of the store. I've gone to Century 21 on what I would consider "off peak" hours only to find that there doesn't seem to be such a thing here. That said, it's a lot of fun to shop here if crowds don't bother you. Some real bargains can be found. My favorite departments are shoes and handbags ... which can also be the most hectic. ..A store you have to frequent often to catch a STEAL! Go on off hours to avoid waits and crowds. Merchandise is always updated - so don't despair! Go to your favorite boutique and then stop by Century 21 to get it cheaper and with no nagging salespeople! Warning: the staff is surly and the patrons are nasty -- good luck! more

Euro designer discount heaven, not so great quality/authentic goods 8/6/2005

This store (across from the WTC memorial) is huge and a bit of a mess really. There is a large selection of clothing and accessories mostly top European designers. Everything is heavily discounted but still expensive. I have my reservations about the authenticity of some of the designer duds being sold. Last winter, I purchased what seemed to be a Calvin Klein coat (after my ex-boyfriend lost my coat), and the quality was very shoddy and it looked like someone had just sewn in a CK label onto the coat. Their lingerie seems to be legit, so I would recommend buying those because they are high quality at good prices. Otherwise, if you have the time to look through everything and deal with the crowds and don't mind possibly purchasing a fake brand, then enjoy. more

Mayhem! 8/5/2005

Granted that Century 21 does offer exceptional deals on name brands, it is chaotic and oftentimes not worth the sifting through and headache that comes with going there. They have an extensive collection of handbags and shoes. They have a wide variety of styles that range from sporty to chic. For their clothing, it's hard to find the right size if you're a petite person. There are usually a lot of people there and the crowds can get suffocating. You can't try clothes on outside of the changing rooms even to just slip something on top which is a problem if the lineups at the fitting rooms are long. It's easy to get there since it's right across from the subway station. Their jewelry is quite lackluster and I do not recommend shopping there for that. more

Shoes Shoes Shoes 8/3/2005

If you are willing to take a trip downtown, this is one of the best places to shop for shoes! They also have handbags, accessories, and all sorts of clothes from casual to designer. They have women's, men's and kids - so everyone will leave with full shopping bags. Their discounts are good, and their sale prices even better. Just come expecting to deal with a crowd and wait on a few lines, and you won't be disappointed by the experience more

Not a secret any more 4/18/2005

In fact, I don't think it's been a secret for a long, long time. But still, here are some of my C21 tips. if you don't know it, this is pretty much new york's best discount dept store - with A LOT of variety, and good stuff for the prices. some tips - it's almost ALWAYS a zoo in there. the worst time is probably lunchtime when there are all out wars breaking out in the aisles. i can only imagine what weekends are like. evenings (after work) are better, esp if you go later, towards closing time. - what it's good for: GREAT for wedding/housewarming gifts. look on the lower floor for this stuff - framed pictures, kitchen appliances, cutlery, cutware, etc. - great for accessories like leather gloves, bags, belts, sunglasses, underwear - not so great in women's clothes, i feel, except if you're looking for good deals on v. expensive european fashion (which is lovely but out of my budget) good luck! more

Great Place for Kids' Clothing 9/24/2004

C21's children's clothing department has great discounts on european designer clothes for infants and toddlers. Their everyday prices on your standard american brands are also a bit less expensive than you would find in other stores. Their kids' shoe department is really hit or miss but if you find something you like, the prices can't be beat. more
