Centennial Job Corps

Voluntary prison for for most. it can be really stressful for most, 92%-95% of the people there smoke.More then likely if you were not a smoker when you went in you will be one once you get out. I went for about 3 months and gain about 25 pounds.. while I was there they had me do off the clock work(non voluntarily as everyone was doing it) in the parking lot driveway next to the dorms. that reeks of slave labor.so if you want to be someones b30898 then go for it.\r Kitchen has poor food handling. Now on to the dorms 1 to 5 people(some are only 1 to 4) per room. you have to clean it daily in the morning and keep it spotless. Each dorm has a shared fridge (possible to earn a small private fridge or microwave) people will steal your food or drink your soda/ or snacks. trust based system .the Recreation has a gym, Theater-room (60""TV) basketball court , pool room. \r \r \r This fidelity is government ran and the US constitution does not apply here.\r you are guilty til proven innocent. \r this place will contentiously violate your\r \r First Amendment \r Fourth Amendment \r rights more

I have been at centennial Job Corps for five months now and i love it. I dont Have to worrie about some of the issues that the world has to offer but i get a bed to sleep and a room with people that can relate to me and are going through alot of the same things as i am. i came into job corps thinking very negative about it but within my first week here i decided that it was a great idea for me to get my life on track . I had no criminal record and most of my friends here dont either. people like to say alot of bad stuff about job corps but honeslty it is a great program that i dont think i could live without. I also applied for college before i got here and i got excepted but i decided that i was not ready for all of the things that i know life can throw at me. I have learned alot here. in the little time i have been here ive grown up alot and i have now come to realize the mistakes i was making before i got here. The person who was complaining about sharing one fridge well i honestly dont thingk that is really anything to complaine about becouse at a job place you are not going to get your own fridge either you will have to trust your coworkers. I have had nothing stolen from me since i have gotten here. The food is not as bad a people say it is but you must realize that they are in training too. We dont expect you to be some amazing cook while you are just learning plus why would you compline about the food if some students came here with nothing not that they did anything wrong but becouse sometimes life throws a hard ball at us but it isnt about were you came from or what you did before it is that you are trying to make yourself better and how you come out of it in the end is what is most important. It is nothing like jail we dont get locked up.. The rules are here for a reason Job Corps is its own little community and without laws a community can not survive and grow.. more

I'm currently attending Job corps and I'm going to disagree with alot of these negative comments. I've been a resident on campus for about 1 year and 6 months. The program itself is amazing, it really does offer students alot. It really comes down to how you use the program, how hard you work and what you put into it. Alot of the people with these negative comments have been on center and have been well known for causing some sort of trouble or just not trying hard enough. You must give effort, nothing in life comes to you without effort. Job Corps gives you the tools to have a great future, you just have to want to try. As for life on center, we have a diverse population of student whom come from all different backgrounds, they arnt all felons like people are claiming on the reviews, infact currently we have alot of students on center without felonies. The students can be random at times but most of the time friendly. I'm extremely shy and I have people say hi to me all the time and try to start conversations, so the environment is completely friendly. \r \r Now as for what you actually get from the program. \r \r Benafits:\r -Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (Not going to lie not always the best food. haha)\r \r -A room with 4 to 5 beds, a sink and private shower/bathroom. (Yes you share a room, but you do have a personal locker, and I will tell you centennial has a very low theft rate. We had a student loose $400 and have every dime returned to her.) \r \r -Free laundry (you have access to washers and dryers to do your laundry at no cost.)\r \r -You get paid biweekly and can go on store runs to buy snacks or hygiene products.\r \r -Access to very helpful staff members, they are always eager to help you with anything. Even if you need a talk. \r \r -Free medical (On center clinic, they can get you patched up if you get an ouchie) \r \r Okay so here is some of the main things:\r \r -Students have 8 trades they may choose from, Carpentry,Facilities Maintenance, Electrical,Painting, Plastering, Computer Services,Buisness, and CNA . You must show your interested to get in, all the trade bosses ask is that you give your best effort. Really not that hard.\r \r -If you are close on credits with your high school diploma, you may obtain it on center. If not, no worries you can get your GED, and HSE (High School Equivalency) while doing your trade. \r \r All in all, Job coprs really is an amazing program. I really don't like the negative, comments on here, only because your going to discourage the ones that want to go, but besides that, the ones that make bad comments saying it sucks, its only because you make it that way, its your fault not the others, so quit your bitching, people are probably going because they wan't to better them self, as a person, and to show how they can reach there goals, and prove they can do something with there life, instead, of sitting at home and doing nothing at all, so anyway, Job corps would be a great place to go, if you really want to do something with your self, and have your family be proud of you, Do what you think is right okay. Don't listen to the negative people, only do things for your self. so the one's that are saying don't go, it sucks. tell, them to fuck off, and say I am not gonna listen to your negative comments, about job corps, I am going to do this, no matter what people say, and stick it out, and go through job corps, to make your self a better person, I'm gonna go to job corps, only because i'm doing it for my self, not to impress people. ha. :) i need to begin my life some were. more

I absolutely loved my stay at Centennial Job Corps. I graduated with a Business Certificate and got to put that under my belt on my resume. I learned to many useful skills and made so many lifelong friends. United dorm for days. I graduated in 7 months and appreciate the team there and the variety of trades to pick. Of course if you have no self respect you will not make it through Job Corps. I don't mean to be so harsh but I went against my will and it was the most rewarding thing I have ever done with my life. Take the program seriously and you open up a lot of possibilities. more

just because job corp wasn't what u expected does not make it a bad place or experience. if it wasn't for job-corps i would be dead or in jail myself. i took what i learned and got my first job after graduation makin 55,000 dollars a year and this was back in 03. i made a million dollars before i was 23 and i went when i was 17. the key is to not let the program run you, you have to run the program. i would recommend the tounge point center in astoria. thats were i went more

Our son was struggling with high school at 17. He had difficulties socializing & accepting authority. He asked to enroll in the program. We agreed, even though he was living in WA & had to relocate away from everyone he knew to ID. In less than a year, he has completed high school and is working on college courses. He shows responsibility for himself, respect for others and really grew up to be a fantastic person to love. He's 18 now and he's got his whole life ahead of him with tons of opportunities thanks to this wonderful program. We are so proud & love you very much Jack! Mom & Dad more

I went to job corps over 6 years ago and yes I do agree the medical department needs some sprucing but they are on a select budget. They do not over medicate like one person rumored on here. Pros: Structure Cons: Not for lazy people more

some yall are wrong about job corps. job corps is an excelent place to be. when i first went there in 2001 it was fukin awsome, you got to go on day pass everyday, you only had to be there for a week before you can go on a weekend pass, yes the food was sh1tty, but so what IT WAS FUKIN FREE STOP BITCHIN. but then we had dum fuks come in and make rules strict like u had to be a gold card to go on day pass, u had to stay for a month before u can go anywhere, makin the beds was not hard ooo i dunno why yall are bitchin about that. now the table manners. I DONT THINK SO. its not like they had a fukin security guard there making sure u ate properly, and held ur fork properly, and made sure u use a napkin, get real they didnt give a shlt about table manners, and roll call OMFG IT ONLY LASTS 5 MAYBE 10 LOUSY MINUTES some times a little longer depends on if anybody had issues or anything. job corps is not only for people thats been in trouble with the law. its to help people get back on there fukin feet yes there where a few people there that was court ordered to go to job corps or they would of ended up in jail big woop, job corp had alot of things to do. they had a pool hall, a big gym, sports like softball, volleyball, basketball, football, they even had outings like river rafting trips, camping trips, goin to BSU games, boise hawk games, and goin to the those outing WHERE FREE. didnt have to pay a fukin dime, if you didint like the food there. THEY DO HAVE A STORE RUN LIKE ONCE A WEEK OR 2 WHERE YOU CAN GO TO THE STORE AND BUY UR OWN FOOD. they have a clothing run ever couple months you get 100 dollars FREE to buy new clothes, they have a mall run like every week or 2, go to the boise mall for 4-6 hrs and hang out a the fukin mall, its not like your trapped there and have to stay there for ever. u do get chances to get off center for a while. so stop givin shlt about job corps cause its actually a nice place to go to. If your son or daughter has never had a felony, misdemeanor, or has never been in trouble with the law, I do NOT recommend this program for them. My boyfriend is currently there, and when he got there, it was WAY different than we had expected. He's one of the only ones there WITHOUT a ""record"". He's one of the ONLY ones there WITH a high school diploma. The admissions person did NOT warn us that this is similar to a reform school, mainly geared towards helping ""troubled"" kids. This institution is VERY strict. They have roll call three times a day, teach you proper table manners, make you make your bed every single morning in a perfect degree angle or else you get marked down, you are on a ""point system"" and can only leave campus a certain ammount of times a month, everything that goes in has to go through security, I could go on. It's like a lesser version of juvenile hall. My boyfriend is treated like a criminal, he's done nothing wrong. He's only been there for two weeks and hasn't even had ANY training yet. I'm not even over hyping this up. My boyfriend went to this place as a last resort because he applied for 67 jobs, even at fast food places over the last 9 months and got NOTHING! Only two interviews, he even logged everything down in a journal. The current economy sent us to Jop Corps. We thought it would give him the right training to get a job so that he could make a decent living. Well, now it seems like that along with the ""job training"" they are trying to teach him ""proper life skills"" that he already knows! They have ""how to be nice to people"" classes. You don't even have access to computers, unless you get the proper amount of ""points"". They even have a person come in and ""inspect"" your dorm room in the middle of the night to make sure you are ""sleeping INSIDE of the bed, instead of ON TOP of it."" You can't walk past the flag pole or into the parking lot, or else you are considered ""absent without leave"". I wrote a letter to him and he had to open it in front of security. If you're expecting it to be similar to a college dorm room, you're wrong. The admissions people NEVER mentioned to us ""Well, we should warn you, the majority of students we have here are here to improve their lives because they have a history of misbehavior with the law."" But we had none of that. We figured that it was going to be just a bunch of normal kids like my boyfriend trying to get a job...but there is so many rules there, it's not funny. No one ever told us that it was either ""jail or job corps"" for some of these kids. A lot of these kids HAVE to be in job corps just to escape being in jail... Don't get me wrong, it's good to have these types of programs for these kinds of kids...but shouldn't they have at least warned us? Or how about they have seperate facilities for kids who have a history of misconduct and kids who don't? Because my boyfriend shouldn't be treated like a criminal and have all these restrictions when he's already graduated high school, and has never EVER been in trouble with the law. This place is no place to send your kids. It is not a safe learning enviroment. The medical clinic over medicates its inmates and as the review before states the food is bad. Not only that if you have bought into the whole idea that your kids will leave this place better or going to get and learn a trade your parents will be disappionted. Pros: very few Cons: unsafe more

Well, I live at Centennial Job Corps, and it stinks. You have some dumb people you have to deal with everyday and a bunch of freaking idiots. You can't show any PDA (Personal Display of Affection), like kissing or even hugging. The people here are just gay like Marmon, he is a real idiot and a butt munch too. The rules here are sucky and so is the food along with everything else. If you have a chance, don't go to Centennial Job Corps in Nampa Idaho and you'll be doing yourself a real favor...
