I think the people who posted negative reviews just had personal bad experiences. I've had nothing but positive experiences with Cavalier Land. If I have a maintenance situation, it is fixed by the end of the day. I've never had to pay for anything that was broken. If you have a problem, there is a 24 hour emergency maintenance line. Someone always responds to a message left there within an hour. The leasing agent is a bit abrasive, but that's just her style. She went above and beyond to find my current apartment for me, and she knows me by name now. It's a pleasure to rent from Cavalier Land. Don't take the negative reviews as the complete truth- because I've had a really good experience. more

I'd be wary of positive reviews. Most of the ones I've seen sound pretty similar in form. Cavalier Land are just downright rotten people on the upper end of the company. Rotten to the core. Liars too. I am not free to cite specifics yet, but I will in the future. more

This is the worst company in Norfolk to rent from. The people in the office will lie to you, take forever to do any maintenance, and never return phone calls. The main lady who does rentals would rather yell at you than to be nice. You would think if your job is to rent apartments you would be a bit nicer. The only time she was nice was when I put in my move-out notice. When returning the deposit, they will charge you out the A$$ for stuff you've never done or had any control over. RENTER BEWARE! PS: If you have a leak of any sort - be prepared to wait 2-3 weeks for repair while your stuff gets damaged and they laugh all the way to the bank. Worst landlord I have EVER dealt with. I have been a renter with Cavalier for about 16 years and really admire the professionalism of the entire staff -- particularly the maintenance staff, which is what most of my dealing have been with. On n umerous occasions I have called with a problem in the morning and by the end of the day the problem is corrected. As a longtime resident of Ghent I know many people who have hated their landlords or management companies because they are inattentive to their concerns. Living in a Cavalier property is really a pleasure because of the way they deal with maintenance issues. And I know plenty of other residents who feel the same way. In addition, I believe the rents Cavalier charges are very fair -- especially because of the service we get. I have been renting from cavalier land for over 5 years now and I have to say that They have one of the best maintenance team. Very professional and helpful. One of the main reason is how clean my building is thanks to cavalier land staff. I will recommend it to anyone. more

Since 1978 I have had the pleasure of renting from Cavalier Land. My experience has been overwhelming positive. The staff are responsive and professional in all interactions I have had with them. Our Building (in Ghent) began using Cavalier as our property managers a little over a year ago after using a few of the other Norfolk ? based companies over the years. I can tell you that they have hands down been the best to work with. They?re attentive to every one of our needs and have actually taken a dull building built in 1918 and helped give it a glow again. As president of the home owner?s association for this building, I can assure you that they are excellent at collecting fees, following up on people, and helping to maintain our building when asked! more

I have had the unfortunate experience of doing business with this company and I have found that it doesn't matter if you are on time or late with your rent, or if you are speaking about one of the women that work in the office or all of them...This company is the definition of slum lord. Notice that there is only one comment at this point that actually defends this company but the reality is that if you want to feel like you are being pushed around then Cavalier is the company for you. The sad part is that they rent out most of Ghent so to live in such a great neighborhood one must put up with the shady and rude work that Cavalier brings to the table. It starts with those that work from the top of this company and works its way down to the ladies working in the front. more

Every one of you obviously have never rented apartments from any Norfolk company before. Small animals are a problem everywhere in Ghent. The buildings are extremely old. So how about you clean your apartment, that would probably solve the problem. That has nothing to do with Cavalier Land. And ""Tony"" is actually a female so the correct way to write her name is Toni. Please learn to spell. Why would you sign a piece of paper you haven't read? They are just doing their jobs and its not the ""lady at the front"" (by the way, all the employees are the front are female) making those rules. Maybe if people actually read the lease, paid rent on time, listened to the people that work there, and paid attention to what they are doing then you wouldn't have a problem. All other companies in Norfolk that rent apartments in Ghent are the same way. more

Aside from mice-infested apartments, lead paint, and shady business practices, and combative property managers, Cavalier Land is decent to rent from. But hold on to your wallet, and pay attention to your lease agreement. They want to get a s much money from you as they can. more

While they may act gracious to the community they are extremely unethical to customers. Companies like Cavalier Land give Norfolk a bad name.
