Rude and arrogant personnel who never interview prospects for private school spots (in teaching or admin) but simply have you fill out a long form and ship to a number of schools.

I can't say enough good things about this company. I never even knew there were services out there that helped teachers find jobs (other than online job boards, Monster, etc.) until a friend told me she found her job teaching Spanish through Carney, Sandoe. I applied online in April and was accepted a week later. Note: from what I understand, you are not automatically accepted as a candidate. They go through your application and check out things like teaching experience, geographic preferences, coaching interests, etc. and then make a decision. \r \r \r \r Anyway, a couple days after I was accepted, my placement person called me to ask me more about what I was looking for. I had been teaching upper school math for the last three years but was hoping to transition to middle school for a variety of reasons. We talked about this, talked about where I wanted to be, salary range, etc. It's a bit of a pain because at this point you need to send in some more documents -- letters of recommendation, transcripts -- before they consider your file ""complete."" I did this quickly (I needed a job!), and the following week she started sending my file to a variety of schools. We talked on the phone or e-mailed each week; for a Nervous Nelly I found the exchanges to be very reassuring. In sum, my file was ""referred"" to 12 schools, and within a month of beginning the process I had three interviews lined up on campuses. Last week I accepted an offer to teach middle school math at an incredible school - I start in August!\r \r \r \r Seems like they work primarily with private schools - if you're looking for jobs teaching in public schools, it's probably not the right place. But they do work with schools all over the place -- I was referred to jobs in California, NY, and Switzerland, in addition to Massachusetts.\r \r \r Anyway, if you're taught before and/or know you want to be in the private school world, I'd highly recommend Carney, Sandoe. more
