Best

Never go wrong at this place with the best italian food. Except the wait. The Upper West Side location might be less crazy... but just as delicious.

Carmine's 12/17/2006

I've been to this restaurant about 4-5 times and I've never been surprised by the fact that the taste of this restaurant's food has been seemingly mass produced. Carmine's has developed a reputation of being one of the best Italian Restaurants in NYC. Although I will not dispute the fact that the casual atmosphere provides for a relaxed dining experience for larger parties, the food itself does not match the seemingly magnified popularity of the restaurant. I will of course state that Carmine's is a wonderful restaurant for large groups (5 or more) and those whom are interested in consuming large portions of food. The wine selection itself is another highlight of this restaurant as their selection produces over 200 bottles from the larger vineyards ranging from California to Italy. Simply put, Carmine's is great if you're looking for quantity over quality. more

Family style Italian 3/29/2006

Carmine's is THE place to go when you have a lot of people and a lot of appetite. The food is really good and fattening and everyone always has a good time sharing in the HUGE portions and friendly atmosphere. Everything serves several people so go with a large group and order a couple of dishes and everyone shares the food. It's a nice place to bring a big group of friends or family and enjoy a laid back casual evening. more

Carmine's - Expectations too high 1/17/2006

I had heard so much about Carmine's in Manhattan. Everyone always raved about how wonderful it is. Well, I finally went and maybe my expectations were too high, but I was not impressed. The food was not different from any other okay Italian restaurant I had been too. We were served gigantic portions- it was overwhelming. This is not the authentic Italian food I heard it was. more

Greasy but fun 9/28/2005

The food is not meant to impress, but portions certainly do! You can share practically any dish on the menu with another person and you will still leave stuffed. It's a fun place where huge Italian families go to reune and celebrate. more

Good Italian Food in Times Square 9/2/2005

It's a nice family style place with good Italian food, but pretty crowded since it's so close to Times Square. We made reservations ahead of time, so didn't have any problems. Started with some salad and mozerella. Then had Rigatoni & Broccoli and Chicken Parmigiana The pasta was very good. It's a nice place, but make reservations to avoid the wait. more

Family style Italian restaurant gets it right; the wait can be long however 8/20/2005

Carmine's is a family style restaurant - the entrees are huge, huge, huge. So, bring a lot of people if you want to try a few different dishes. Three people could feast on one entree. The veal parmagiana is mouth-watering and the desserts are amazing. I usually go before going to a Broadway show - it is located close to many of the theaters. more

The Best I've Had 8/15/2005

This is the best Italian I've ever had. Family style servings. I've gone here a few times with work, and we all found it enjoyable. The place is always busy, so make sure you get there at a good time or try to call ahead. It's great to see a Broadway play and go get diner here as well, as it's right in the area. It's very easy to get to, as it's right in the heart of Times Square. A must for fans of Italian food. more

Generous Italian 8/6/2005

Being in the theatre district makes this Italian restaurant very popular and busy. It has two floors and the decor is very homey. There is a bar downstairs for you while you wait for your table. The waiters are very nice and they sing if it's your birthday. The food is family-style and the menu is creatively placed on the wall. Everything is generously prepared. They have great seafood plates like the shrimp scampi. The lasanga was huge and stuffed with pasta. It's not the most healthy option since there is a lot of heavy ingredients but it's Italian food! The pasta dishes have big portions but the other chicken, seafood, and meat portions are more adequately proportioned. There's definitely enough to go around plus some. The prices for entrees are around $15-$20. You will definitely have a good time there. more
