Leftover Fried Masa Meat? 1/29/2012

Tried this location since the newer one they had in Frisco was closed down(that one was great). Ordered fried pork meat (masas) and seem to been baked and quickly fried or were left overs, but surely not fresh. My partner ordered the same and concurred and left the whole plate. The meat tasted like lechon(roasted pig) and that's not how this dish should taste. Oddly all else was well cooked. more

Food is ok, attitude is terrible. 8/27/2011

What a shame this is. Someone worked very hard to open a restaurant and use their family recipes. There are mixed reviews on Yelp and Citysearch. I dined there and planned to write about it in a newspaper for which I am the restaurant editor despite the lackluster service and the waitresses' inability to answer simple questions about the food. When I called several days later, they STILL would not give me answers to the questions- like ""is the pastry for the cream cheese and guava dessert made from scratch?"" - and said they were not allowed to send me a copy of their menu. Turns out I found the to-go menu I had taken with me when I was there, and could have used it as a reference. But because they repeatedly hung up on me and were extremely difficult, I have decided not to write about them at all. And, of course, I'll never go back as a customer. more

Caribbean Cafe needs some help 7/24/2011

I was excited about going to the Caribbean Cafe because of the great reviews. I took two friends with me and to my chagrin the service was mediocre, the Margaritas , though good, one of the margarita was served immediately the other two came about ten minutes later. The Vaca Frita, Fried Shredded beef with garlic, onions, and citrus juices, was dry. Could have been an excellent dish. The Filete de Tilapia al Vino, Fish Fillet Sauted in wine, was pretty good. The fried Plantains were hard dry and could have been used as a Frisbee. Also we all ask for sauteed vegetables and instead we were all served rice. We will not be back. more

Best Authentic Cuban Food in Texas 10/26/2007

The quaint restaurant always has tasty food and friendly service. I dine here often and have never been disappointed. This is the home of the true MOJITO. The paella is a really nice seafood dish and the ropa vieja is a must try. For lunch, the sandwiches are great, and the service is fast. Prices are easy on the wallet. The owner is a really friendly Cuban lady and makes the guests always feel welcome. Finish with a great cup of cafe latte! more

Excellent Casual Cuban Dining 8/27/2007

Went with a group of eight to try this restaurant this past weekend. Was a little concerned b/c it was pretty much empty on a Saturday night which was not a good indicator. There were only two other couples in the place at 7:45 pm. The waitress was sweet and friendly - offering many suggestions/recommendations. Since the group was ethnically diverse, she also pointed out those items that were more traditional. I went light with a Cuban sandwich, while others had the Ropas Viejas and Enchiladas Camerones (not your usual Mexican style enchilada at all!). Our plates were flying around the table as everyone was passing their dish to others to sample (yeah, we're like that). The food was very tasty and definitely a different experience for all of us. Only criticism on the food was that the Ropas Viejas could have been slow cooked a little longer to be truly melt-in-your-mouth tender. The mojitos (freshly made) and margaritas were also great. We didn't have any desserts, but did have some Cuban coffees which were as I remember them. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes. All in all, I found it to be very authentic, even reminiscent of some of my mom's cooking. Definite thumbs up! Pros: Authentic Cuban Food, helpful attentive service, good drinks, clean and well lit Cons: Strip Mall environment, limited parking, not really close to anything else more

decent food, bad service, idiot owner 6/19/2007

had lunch today, decent sandwich...owner launched a tirade on us when we left because we had parked behind the restaurant. He claims we blocked the door but there was no sign, two other unblocked doors, and very limited parking in front. Won't be back. Told him while he was launching his tirade that we were paying customers assuming he was upset that we were blocking legitimate customers, but turns out he was PO'd because it was his personal parking spot. Pros: decent sandwiches Cons: unfriendly owner more

Cuban authentic at its finest! 5/25/2007

The Caribbean Cafe was introduced to me by a coworker of mine. She raved about how great the Cuban sandwiches were and with my love of food I just had to try it. I went there with her and I have to say the Cuban sandwich tasted what one should taste like. One should be able to taste the pork on it and that I did. I then because I liked it so much brought my boyfriend there and he was taken aback on how great the food was. We even seplurged on a freshly made mojito which is concocted when it is first placed on order. The only draw back is the place is very small so if you go at lunch expect a wait and for dinner go early in the evening. I am looking forward to going back and trying the Paella which I have been told is exceptional. Pros: Exceptional authentic food Cons: Too small a place for the business it does more

Great Cuban Cuisine 7/12/2006

Carribean Cafe is probably one of the few places in the area that serves authentic Cuban cuisine. Tucked away in a strip mall off of Beltline Rd in Carrollton, this was such a surprisingly pleasant find. I had the Ropa Vieja which was tender and flavorful. My companion ordered the picadillo plate which, unlike at Mexican restaurants, was seasoned with olives. Both entrees were great and came with a choice of either black beans with white rice, or a mixture of both. A choice of fried crunchy plantains or sweet fried plantains also came with the entree. I will definitely be back to check out other options on the menu. Pros: Authentic cuisine more

Finally Authentic Cuban Cuisine In Dallas 4/22/2006

I have been a couple of cuban restuarants in Dallas, not very many here. Anyways I went to this place after I found out Little Havana had been closed down. Well there is no comparison! The food is delicious... paella, cuban sandwich, ropa vieja! Wonderful Bartender! The place is so small, but nice. Pros: , great crowd, excellent food Cons: small place more
