The BEST you can find!!! 11/4/2010

Capricorn Clinic is amazing! Like many other folks, I am so glad I found it. Our cat was acting out, biting the kids, biting the other cat, generally not pleasant. Other vets had said our children were the problem and were pestering the cat too much. Hogwash! Doc immediately diagnosed a food allergy and an anxiety issue. She put our cat on a special food and medication and he was a new cat. Our poor kitty had a heart murmer and had a heart attack. Doc rushed in to the clinic when my husband called to see if she could save him. Unfortunately, it was too late. Doc and her staff treated our cats death with dignity and caring...Doc teared up right along with us. \r Doc understands cats. She has a housecall day for those cats or clients who can't go to the clinic. Both our cats go crazy when we take them in to the clinic upsetting them and us. Having a vet that understands how awful that is for pets and owners and cares enough to come to you is amazing. I really cannot say enough great more

A stray cat 3/22/2010

We had a stray cat hanging around our house for about a week. We do TNR so we weren't surprised. The cat was small and we noticed it would go to the food bowl, look and not eat.It moved slow and appeared to have no energy. We couldn't catch it so we set a trap and caught it. None of the area vets would care for it because it was a stray.A TNR friend suggested we call Capricorn Cat Clinic. We were told to bring the cat in. Dr. Smullen ran tests on the cat then called us personally, to discuss the cats condition. The cat was older and had advanced liver disease. She gave us the options available and let us decide what to do. Since we had no idea who or if the cat had a caregiver, we paid to have the cat put down.\r Capricorn Cat Clinic is really a cat friendly place. There were several "resident" cats that welcomed us. There were water bowls and dry food for the resident cats and they all looked comfortable and happy. The staff was very nice and pleasant to us. more

I WAS GIVEN HOPE. 12/8/2008

i have taken my cats to dr. smullen for years but never knew exactly how great her care is. recently,i had to find a home for my three cats, long story... however,i went to visit them every 2 weeks. before i left for vacation of 10 days, i went to see them and one of them appeared to have an eye infection,so off i went to the closest vet's office.the vet drew blood, came back in to tell me my cat was very sick, and probably had a 20% chance of survival . they said if i was willing to do alot of work and time and money,he maybe had a 40 to 50 % chance. i called dr.smullen's office immediately for a second opinion, the person who answered the phone said dr.smullen had other cat's given the same vague diagnosis and they were treated there with success. i was given a huge gift of hope. i arranged to have bubba taken there while i was away, i was encouraged to call everyday for updates by dr.smullen, not just her staff. many tests were performed, and money was spent, and bubba was recovering more

my kitties best friend 11/18/2008

for many years now Dr. Smullen and her staff have taken care of our fur babies. She is wonderful, as is her staff. She is brutally honest with her diagnosis and will not "fluff" her findings. She is caring and will do anything to help your furry friends. Love her dearly for all of her efforts, dedication to God's creatures great and small and her willingness to work together for the goodness of everyone no matter if they have two legs or four. more

Negative review??? 5/26/2008

I'm sorry, but I don't see the negative review to which everyone is posting comments. What was the problem and where is the review? The comments don't make sense without reading the review. I am not currently a client, so ignore the rating on my review. more

The only place to take your cat if your cat needs to see a vet. 11/16/2007

I've been taking my cats to Dr. Smullen for more than 8 years and let me tell you that you cannot find a more dedicated, compassionate veterinarian to take care of your cats. She has always gone beyond the call of duty in my times of need. When I took my cat that was very sick to a different vet, the vet told me that he was dying of old age. I didn't like that answer, so I tried a cat only veterinarian - Dr. Smullen. She immediately diagnosed the problem as being a thyroid condition and put him on medication. Guess what? My cat that was supposedly dying of old age lived another 8 glorious years at the grand age of 18!!!\r \r I also have a cat that picked up a very horrible infection. Unluckily, I didn't realize how bad it was until he had difficulty seeing. I explained my concern to the receptionist who told me that it sounded very serious, but that unfortunately, it was the doctors day off so that I should bring my cat to an emergency clinic. I told her that I didn't feel comfortable wi more

Great Place-Best in Area for Cats 6/12/2007

I first came to Capricorn because I found 3 newborn kittens and knew nothing about cats, and it is right next door to my grandmother's work. That way my grandmother would be close to the cats in the case of an emergency. I live about 10 minutes away, but I feel more comfortable knowing that someone is even closer if needed. I have never needed my grandmother to respond to an "emergency", as I know now that I can trust Dr. Smullen and her staff. My three little kittens were very sickly because they were laying in a puddle of water in the bottom of a window well (and it was about 40 degrees outside). The other kittens in the litter died and the three that were still alive were barely hanging on. I figured I would try take care of them, even though I have never had cats or kittens. Before I even came to the clinic the staff gave me a recipe for homemade formula that really helped. After they gained some weight and strength, the kittens were still not quite right. They all had infe more

Amazing and Dedicated 6/10/2007

Dr. Smullen is an amazing vet. We were told that there was nothing that could be done for our cat by another vet. We took him to Dr. Smullen and her skill, kindness, and caring approach brought him back and he became very healthy again. I couldn't recommend a more dedicated vet. She's not in it for the money, but rather she is in it to simply help our cats. Truly an amazing person. more

Best vet for our family 5/29/2007

My name is Daryl and I live in Plainfield. I have had the privilege of having Dr. Smullen as my vet and the pleasure of having her as a friend for 13 years. Anyone who gets a chance to really know Dr. Smullen, Betty and her entire staff very quickly realize her dedication, professionalism and her brilliant understanding and application of veterinary medicine and procedures. \r \r I love my animals and would not trust their livelihood to just anyone. Remember, animals cannot talk and tell you what?s wrong. This is where Dr. Smullen is at her best. Her past and present experiences come into play all at once to ensure my pet is the least uncomfortable for the least amount of time, every time. My buddy, Studley, who I consider lucky to have had in my life from the moment he found us was in need of special care. You see he had the animal equivalent of AIDS. Dr. Smullen found just the right mixture of medications to keep him alive living a great life for 10 years. He then developed more

"Be warned" that you will never find a better feline veterinarian!!!!! 5/28/2007

I can't believe what I have just read below! I have known Dr. Smullen for over 14 years and have never found her to be unprofessional or personally offensive in ANY way! Not only is she a superb veterinarian, but she treats my 2 boys like they are her own and I trust her implicitly. As a pet professional, I refer her to my clients and have only had positive feedback. more

To "Be Warned" 5/25/2007

WOW!, I can't believe those comments from a dissatisfied customer. We've been dealing with Dr. Smullen for close to 20 years with 4 cats. She was the only vet (and we tried a few very well known clinics) that diagnosed cancer in one of our cats. Her persistence and thoroughness in diagnosing illnesses and diseases go way beyond the average vet. We first met her when she worked at another clinic and will stay with her until she decides not to practice any longer. If you want the best treatment for your cat Dr. Smullen?s ethics and skills indisputable in my book. \r I hope you get your issues worked out because your cat is missing out on care from one of the best cat vets in the Chicago area. more

Another Rebuttal of the "Unkind Review" 5/24/2007

I also cannot believe that anyone could make such unkind comments about Dr. Smullen. She is in the business of veterinary care, not for the money, not for the glory, but because she really cares about her patients. My family and I are certain that not only Dr. Smullen's skill, but her compassion and loving care brought our cat back to us after his second stroke. The veterinary clinic in Chicago said there was nothing they could do to help him, but Dr. Smullen was there for us. Both Dr. Smullen and her staff are exceptional and will always have a fond place in our hearts. I now live out of state and still keep in touch with her. She makes herself available for consultation by phone and by email. I have had cats for over 45 years and have never known a Vet as dedicated and as highly skilled as Dr. Smullen. She is absolutely the best! more

Rebuttal of unkind review 5/24/2007

I cannot believe the unkind comments that a previous reviewer made. I have taken my cats to Dr. Smullen starting at Abbeywood in the 1980's and I followed her to Lockport, even though it's 25 miles from my house. She is the most compassionate and competent vet I have ever known. I have recommended her to many of my friends who treasure their pets as I do. She has always been professional, as has her staff. She was the only vet to offer chemotherapy and other life-saving treatments when my cats had cancer. She has also offered alternative therapies such as acupuncture. In the 40 years that I have owned cats, she is by far the best vet I have ever known. more

LOVE this place 5/3/2007

I cannot say enough nice things about Dr Smullen. She saved my Turkish Van from near death, but we moved about 20 miles away from her clinic, and had stopped going there. It wasn't until we had an emergency with another family pet that I realized how inadequate the care I had been getting from our new vet was. Needless to say I now drive the 20 miles to see Dr Smullen whenever I need her. This really is the BEST place for your cat. more

Best place for your cat 9/14/2005

I worked here a few years ago and let me tell you, that's one vet that loves her job. It's a cat only clinic and all the cats are treated like royalty. The clinic is clean and in a cat friendly environment. The staff are just wonderful. Your cat is number one at Capricorn Clinic. There are also over a dozen cats that live at the clinic that have been rescued. more
