Capriccio Restaurant

A friend just forwarded the below reviews to me after I had raved to him about this restaurant. I am in shock. I consider this to be one of the best restaurants in all of Charleston - and that is saying a lot as Charleston is full of great restaurants! The food is fantastic - Italian. Recommend the Gnocchi with the half white and half red sauce; the Mushroom Ravioli with white sauce; the Mussels; the Lasagne.... just to name a few. I hope people will not shy away from this restaurant because of those two reviews - but maybe that 's not such a bad thing because it's small so maybe it 's better kept a secret.. It's superb!!!! (And just to set the record straight on the owner, I have been there many, many times and never seen him drunk or acting rude. On the contrary, he is very charming.) I was hoping this changed since I ate here last but judging from the other reviews it is the same. I went with four business colleagues here for dinner. When we were finished we asked for separate checks. The owner was in the restaurant and was noticeably drunk. When he heard from our waitress we wanted to split the check he became irate, told us we weren?t splitting any check and someone better pay up with one card. We were shocked and in awe of what was taking place. I told him we were happy to pay separately but we were not authorized to pay for others meals. He ridiculously threatened to call the police on us to which I replied ""please do so he can lock you up for public drunkenness"". The waitress apologized to us although she was very upset because he began to yell at her also. This was the owner folks and we were verbally attacked for requesting to split a check. This happened. I am not exaggerating. This place should be closed down until the french owner learns how to treat customers and completes a rehab program. I went to have dinner with my 18 month old son. The owner was there and walking around fussing at everyone. He is very loud and very rude. When I asked for a high chair for my son, the waittress said they didn't have any but she would see what she could do. The owner was standing behind the bar and she went and asked him if there was anything they had my son could sit on. He rudely yelled at her stateing they didn't have any da--ed high chairs for kids. I don't know if he didn't know I was sitting right there watching him and could hear everything, or he just didn't care. I asked the waittress if I should leave. She said no. She was very nice and you could tell she felt bad. I decided to stay, ordered dinner, it was ok, nothing special. But because of the way the owner treated me and my son I will never visit this place again! Pros: Good Wait staff Cons: Poor skills by Owner more
