Better than salons on Newbury St., Boston 3/26/2009

For years I'd been getting my hair cut and highlighted in Boston for way too much money. After my friend recommended M2, I gave it a try. Since then, I've never gone back to Newbury St., Boston. I get a better hair cut, better color, all for nearly a third of the price. Pros: Great style, less money more

Upbeat Atmosphere and Great Haircuts that Last 3/25/2009

I live in Boston and travel to Providence to have my cut and color done by owner Michael. Michael maintains a professional and upbeat salon. He gives you a haircut that not only looks great when you leave the salon, but also when you do your hair at home. You can count on compliments from his haircuts! He does great color too! Fun neighborhood to browse around in after your appointment. Pros: Stylish haircut that looks great right to next appointment Cons: Plan enough time for on street parking space more

Top Notch Stylist 3/12/2009

I just got back from another great appointment with Lori A. I have been seeing her for several years and followed her from another salon...she's just that good. Extremely professional, doesn't get too pushy with products, and, most importantly, has learned what I like and what I don't. I trust her completely to give me a great cut that suits both my appearance and my personality. I have a friend moving to the area soon and I will definitely be sending her to see Lori at M squared. more

No Place Better in Southern New England 2/27/2009

Never thought I was a fussy guy when it came to hair, but after leaving Boston a couple of years ago it seemed every place I went gave me bad haircut after bad haircut. I'd run into old timer barbers for a standard ""high & tight"" (which meant ""short & lopsided"") or I'd try a different stylists at my town's ""best"" salon. I'd get fair shampoo/head massages, but each girl had a way of makingmade my hair look ""almost"" good - the style would be decent, except for the one chunk of my head which looked like they trimmed with a shovel.\r \r I'd committed myself to a life wearing hats when I noticed my wife's hair had taken on a stunning style. On a recommendation from a friend she'd started going to Devan, so I did and then we followed her to M2. Couldn't be happier - I only break out the hats on days I don't feel like showering.\r \r What puts Devan above the rest, apart from her scissor talents, is personality - she's one of the only stylists I've actually enjoyed talking to (including the one I'd dated years ago...) She's got a laid-back, honest manner and her memory is astounding. She remembers conversational details from my first visit - her attention to personal details just makes one more comfortable that she's going to be just as attentive w/ your hair. I need to stop arriving at M2 w/ just washed hair because a pre-cut shampoo/conditioning by Devan is about one of the nicest things you can experience on a regular basis. Enchanted fingers - they'll put you to sleep in the sink.\r \r There's lots of 2-Hr parking areas on Atwells, but it is a busy street so you might find yourself driving around trying to grab a spot. But you'll find plenty of small lots on the streets guarded by ""good fellas"" on lawn chairs - they'll make sure ""nobody puts a scratch on ya cah"" for a very reasonable rate while you're in the salon.\r \r After seeing Devan - stop into Venda Ravioli a couple of doors down. Best Italian groceria/deli next to J. Pace's in Boston. Pros: Great atmosphere, Borderline-illegal shampoo & conditioning Cons: Placement of mirrors on pillars might have you waving to people who can't see you... more

Quality! 2/25/2009

Love this place Lori A is an amazing person and Hair stylist. I travel all the way form Virginia just to get my hair done, that is how good she is! more

Great hair 2/25/2009

I have been to many salons in the past looking for the ""right"" stylist for my needs. I had my first appointment with Devan and she was wonderful. She was very personable, understood my needs, very professional and I can't wait to go back to her. My hair looks great after she worked on it, I highly recommend her, this coming from a very picky person about her hair. Pros: great service Cons: parking more

Best Women's Short Haircut in Providence 2/22/2009

My hair has never looked better since I found Steven Lester at M2 Salon. Stephen is an expert at short hair and mine is not only short but fine and thin. Steven found a way to make my hair look and feel fantastic. I have never had strangers compliment me before but I do now. Not only does Stephen cut my hair but he does a great job of coloring and highlighting it too. Let me tell you this is not easy since it is very short! Not only is he talented but a nice guy too. You will not only look great but you will enjoy the experience as well. I usually stop at Pastiche Bakery, one block over, and have the ultimat experience of a cut and color with a great hot chocolate! Pros: Great cut and color, cute shop, great neighborhood Cons: Parking more

Curl Control 2/21/2009

My hair is super thick, curly and gets 'big' really fast. Stephanie Shey, a fellow 'curly' herself, is an outstanding stylist that not only gets the challenges of curly hair, but truly celebrates it. Thanks to her skill, and always entertaining conversation, I not only look forward to my appointments, but have freed my locks once and for all from the ponytail cycle. more

the search is over 2/20/2009

Lori did my highlights and cut about 6 wks ago and I'm still ecstatically happy about them. Lori understood my style immediately and gave me a range of recommendations to help me figure out how I wanted to cut my hair (ie short or not). She was very patient and made sure we were both on the same page before proceeding with the cut and color. The cost for this modern, peaceful salon with incredibly knowledgeable and up-to-date stylists is very reasonable. I have absolutely no desire to try any other salons, which is a first for me! more

BEST HAIRCUT 2/12/2009

Hairstylist Stephanie Shey on Atwells Avenue in Federal Hill is the best hair stylist I've had in 10 years - Allure Magazine wrote about her some years ago -- the line of her haircuts lasts forever - she is on trend, can do edgy, pretty, glamor - knowledgeable, warm, and interested in her clients - Pros: STAFF are both courteous and professional - LOCATION on Atwells Avenue in Federal Hill more

I have follow Micheal for almost eigth years and recommend his cuts to anyone that will listen! Even as my cut is growing out it keeps a style due to his talents! Michael and his team are very professional and have a beautiful salon.\r You will always be greeted warmly and you will be comfortable in this salon environment!\r Enjoy the location and visit the local restaurants and stores after your appointment!\r M2 is well worth the visit! Pros: Great Talent!!! Cons: None! more

Great B Dry 2/7/2009

I happened upon Stephanie when I was a student at PC about 7 years ago. I have since moved to Boston, but still come back to her for cuts, color, and b drys. Her b drys are the best, only rivaled to Mario at the Oribe Salon, in Miami, who I go to when I am down there. In all of the years (I go every 4-6 weeks) that I have been going there I don?t think I have ever left the salon unhappy. Everyone there is very professional and always accommodating if I have to call and move my appointment.\r Sorry for the abbreviations this site won?t let you use certain words! Pros: Great service all around Cons: Get there early b/c parking can be tricky sometimes. more

M squared is a must 2/4/2009

I really needed a hair dresser in my life, So I tracked down Michael, who left another salon to open up his own. M squared is a warm, inviting, and relaxing salon to visit. The owner, Michael always has a smile on & greets you with friendly ""hello"" right when you walk in the door. \r There are always complimentary beverages and reasonably priced products. I had my hair cut and foiled there and I am very happy with the results. Thanks Michael! I felt soooo comfortable and my hair came out wonderful and trust me,my hair is not the easiest to maintain.\r I recommend M Squared to everyone. I have recieved so many compliments. I almost didn't want to share this information with anyone, out of fear that he'll get too busy and won't be able to fit me in! Regardless, do yourself a favor and have Michael cut your hair. He's a genius with style and will completely understand your hair and how best it can look. The place is absolutely beautiful!I So do yourself and your hair a favor and call Arionna, at M Squared to schedule your appointment.\r \r \r \r more

Response to hairyencounter 1/31/2009

I've been going to Stephanie at MSquared for at least five years - since I read about her in Allure magazine. I always got my cuts in Manhattan and am very particular about my hair. After moving to Connecticut, I still made the trip into NY for a cut. Then I read the article about Stephanie and decided to take a chance. She is amazing. She seems to be an expert in all types of hair - from my thin, straight to my sisters curly. I am stopped in the street by people asking who cuts my hair (not something that happened often with haircuts costing hundreds of dollars more). The quality of the cut, the value for each dollar I spend, and Stephanies fabulous personality make my monthly two hour trip worth it. I would follow her anywhere. \r \r Hairyencounter, your experience seems to be so far from others experience at MSquared; do you think you are mistaken about the salon you were in?????????????????? Pros: Friendly, well versed staff. Great neighborhood to spend time in. Cons: Can't think of any. more

MSquared Salon is Fabulous 1/23/2009

The stylists are excellent, professional and provide terrific results in coloring and cuts. I wouldn't go anywhere else!!!!!! more

stephanie is talented and professional 1/18/2009

I happened to see that review, if you want to call it that, by ""hairyencounter"" about my stylist, Stephanie at Msquared...let me just comment to ""hairyencounter"" and say that Stephanie has never been anything but attentive and receptive to any and all of my salon needs. She is a talented and sweet girl who does not deserve those comments. She has always made herself available and able to accomodate my schedule and I have never left the salon feeling anything but satisfied and happy. For anyone out there who doesn't have a stylist they can rely on, I suggest you give Stephanie a call. She will absolutely exceed your expectations on every level....and she will have you in stitches the entire time. She's so funny.\r Let me just end by asking ""hairyencounter"" to come out of hiding and show your face, I'm sure Stephanie would be more than happy to correct whatever your complaints might truly be. To know her is to love her!!!! Pros: great teamwork throughout the salon Cons: zero more

Only place to get your hair styled in RI 1/17/2009

I have been using Stephanie at M Squared salon ever since she came highly recommended from Allure Magazine about 5 years ago. She is the only person I will let cut and color my hair and I will follow her anywhere. I recently visited her at M Squared and find the location and atmosphere fantastic. Everyone at the place was friendly and helpful and Steph provided my best cut and color yet. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for high quality styling! Pros: Leaving with fantastic hair more

Response to the feedback posted by ""hairyencounter"" 1/17/2009

I am writing in response to the last review posted by ""hairyencounter"". I was extremely surprised and disappointed to read the negative feedback that was left for the salon and also for Stephanie. We would never want anyone to leave our salon unhappy with their service or level of professionalism. We always encourage our clients to inform us of any problems or issues so we can address them immediately. We were totally unaware of any bad experience in our salon and this review was the first we heard of it. In addition, our salon is located on one of the most popular streets in the state with fantastic restaurants, cafes, boutiques, art galleries, and shops surrounding us! It is an insult to all of these extremely successful establishments to call this trendy area ""slums""!!! We hope that the negative review doesn't persuade our existing clients and also potential clients in the future. We would love for ""hairyencounter"" to contact us so we can handle this in a more professional manner and hopefully encounter a more positive experience. Pros: Positive, creative environment with established and talented group. Cons: n/a more

Trendy Salon 1/10/2009

I have lived in NYC and Boston, and had great stylists. Over three years ago, our family moved to RI, and I tried numerous salons and stylists. Then I found Lori, who I have been with for the past three years. She is meticulous, patient, artistic, and up-to-date on all of the latest styles. She is a genious at the art of coloring, and wouldn't trade her in for anything! My two girls have their hair cut with Devan and Steven, who are also trendy, meticulous, and obviously passionate about their work. M Squared is located right on Federal Hill, a super location, and the salon itself is airy and comfortable. I can't count the number of times I am stopped to be asked where I get my hair done. (my girls get compliments as well!) This speaks for the stylists and salon. I would HIGHLY recommend M Squared to those that want to remain trendy at any age! Pros: Super Tresses more

Most disappointing 1/8/2009

I went to M squared for the first time not to long ago, and it was one of the worst treatments i have ever recieved at a salon. My stylist Stephanie talked a mean game, but when it came down to it my hair was destroyed. The receptionist was very unprofessional also. Will not be returning to this salon, if that is what u want to call this sad excuse for an establishment. Over priced and u dont get what u ask for. Have fun!!! Pros: ZERO Cons: Parking in the slums, with a bunch of charachters out of the next John Gotti movie. more
