Amazing Food and fabulous service! 2/19/2010

My boyfriend and I went here on a very snowy night in December. We were lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves! It's amazing that it wasn't more crowded because this place has really great food. We started with the polenta and mushrooms which was delicious! our waiter was extremely friendly, taking time to explain to us about the food and the history of restaurant. I got the mushrooms and fresh pasta dish. It was so good! the pasta is truly fresh and it was so light and yummy. i went to italy last summer and this was very close to the food i enjoyed there. I had a Sardian red wine which was great as well. This restaurant is a hidden gem and if you're in the mood for great italian in a wonderful atmosphere..you need to go here! Pros: Delicious Pasta, cozy and romantic atmosphere more

Best Pasta Ever! 5/26/2009

I went in here on a friday night after reading great reviews. I must say that as good as the reviews were, my experience was even better. Our food was delicious. I ate the pappardelle and my date had the polenta. Both were fantastic. We shared a bottle of cannonau (sardignian red wine), for which the restaurant is named, and it was great. Our waiter was Italian, which was a nice touch. Plus the bartender, a new yorker who spoke Italian, made a great mojito before we sat down. All in all, I had an amazing experience and will definitely be going back soon. Pros: Fantastic pasta / Italian staff / Cozy atmosphere more

Best Mozzarella 10/1/2008

On East 4 St, there are many Italian restaurants and we tried to go to Perbacco (40 min wait on Sat), and then to In Vino (full house & super loud), but no luck. So, my hus picked this restaurant to try. It also was full but the owner tried to accomodate us right away. Elderly lady was our server and nice enough to suggest us to try another red wine after opening the original one we ordered ($55) and my hus tasted but not exactly with genuine happy expression. Her generosity and real pro mind-set rarely seen in any restaurant. So we were surprised. Any fun of mozzarella should try their soft, fluffy, melt in your mouth fresh cut. Great appetizer! Also, their hand made black ink pasta had superb texture that I've never had before. Finally their risotto that came with Pork Chop was lemony rather than creamy-heavy flavor. It was very special and I would try risotto alone next time. So, overall it was a great experience, worth the walk deep into Alphabet avenues betw A&B. Pros: mozzarella, risotto, friendly service Cons: Not too many items on menu more

Wonderful Little Place 6/3/2008

I dined with friends at Cannonau over Memorial Day Weekend this year. The food was outstanding, and the owners were wonderful hosts. The atmosphere is exactly what you would desire in a little Sardinian restaurant in the East Village. Pros: Wonderful food, service and wine choices Cons: None that I can think of. We loved it. more

Fantastic mushroom pasta, very relaxed 3/21/2008

This was nearly empty when we went it, which worried me, but the food and service was fantastic. It filled up by the time we left but was still relaxed and comfortable. more

Go to Cannonau Now! 2/16/2008

A great find! A charming atmosphere--laid back and cozily lit with much attention given to detail. The staff was wonderful. Our waitress answered all of our questions about Sardinian wines and recommended the perfect Cannonau to compliment our meals. The calamari was perfectly breaded and firm; the mussels in white wine sauce were fabulous. The wild boar with red wine sauce was fantastic. The portions were a bit a small, so be sure to order an appetizer like we did. And, by the way, the timing was perfect. It was nice to go out in Manhattan on a Saturday night and not feel rushed. Go to Cannonau soon before you can't get in! Pros: food, service, wine Cons: small portions more

Simply great 1/23/2008
