Horrible service from the Servers. My husband and I are new parents and were granted with the rare opportunity to enjoy some well overdue US time (thanks to my mother n law). We decided to visit Cajun Queen, looking forward to experiencing the mouth watering creol cuisine and atmosphere advertised by this restaurant. Unfortunately, our experience at the Cajun Queen, was not a pleasant one. Maybe our expectations of good food with matching service was too high! Our server appeared to be distracted and more interested in the table beside us (guess he figured the other table would tip more???). Although the table beside us received at least 4 visits from the server, our 2 interactions with the same server entailed him taking our order and delivering the bill. No refills, no checking up on us to make sure the food was ok, NOTHING! Food was delivered by another person from the kitchen. Anyhoo, we did report our concerns to management; however, I seriously doubt anything was done. \r \r If you are looking for good food, good service, and a good experience...don't waste your time and money at Cajun Queen. If you are looking for IHOP food at 4star prices....this is the place for you! \r \r Um yeah......there was no LIVE JAZZ when we visited (Friday 10-12-12). Maybe we were sitting in the wrong area or the place was simply bigger than we thought it was, because we didn't see anyone playing any musical instruments!!!!\r \r We'll be trying Delta's restaurant next go around! more

Good but far from great!!! 8/29/2011

I went to Cajun Queen with three other friends tonight (Monday) night. To start off with they ran out of bread before before out Gumbo and appetizers were brought out to us. When the Gumbo came out it was cold and so was the shrimp in the Gumbo. We sent it back. The Waitress told us that they were having a problem in the kitchen which is not a good sign. We were wondering what we were in for next. If this was any indication of what the main course was like, then I didn't plan on coming back. They brought the Gumbo back out from the kitchen and it actually had good flavor. Good use of spices. It was spicey but not too spicey. I ordered the Pan Sauteed Duck breast. It tasted very good. The meat was tender and cooked just right for me, medium rare. The sauce, potatos, and other veggies were excellent. I was very happy with the main course. The waitress offered desert. I had a chocolate cookie pie. I should have never ordered it. The desert was terrible. It was hard, dry, and had little flavor. Overall, its hard to say if I would go back in the near future or recommend Cajun Queen. I am on the fence and so is the rating I am going to give CQ. I did like the main course, the atmosphere was cool, the wait staff was okay. The fact that they did not have any bread, the appetizers were alright, and the desert was downright terrible made me a little upset. I wish the kitchen staff could make a complete 3 course meal were every course was good-excellent given the prices of the dishes. It is hard to say but maybe the food might have been better if we didn't go on a Monday evening. more

Not @ all what I expected!!! 2/16/2011

My husband and I wanted something different, and good, so after doing a little bit of research we decided to try the Cajun Queen. Our experience there was horrible, we had reservations for 8:00pm, we were not seated until 9:10, ok this made us think the food must be awesome, oh NO, The food was not seasoned well to say the least, and the portions were extremely small. I ordered the platter (sounds like a lot) I had 3 shrimp, 3 oysters, and a small peice of fish, My red beans and rice were cold. we did not get one refill on our drinks, after continuously asking, our server kept forgetting. The only good thing was the music, which is not jazz, but they still sounded ok. more

REALLY GREAT PLACE! 1/3/2011

I was looking for a nice romantic place for me and my husband to have dinner on new years. The Cajun Queen was more than I expected. Nice atmosphere, great food, and wonderful location. Being creole myself, its hard to find great Cajun food so far from home. I do recommend Cajun Queen, and already have to my friends. Thank you for a great start to our new year! Look forward to going again! more

Nice place but the food is not authentic. 12/29/2010

My wife and I visited this restaurant last year because it was voted the best Cajun Restaurant in the Charlotte area. We relocated to the Charlotte area from New Orleans a couple of years ago, and we want to try a restaurant with authentic Cajun food so I am not required to cook for hours in my own kitchen. I really enjoyed the ambiance and the service; however, if you are going there for authentic Cajun food, you would do better skip Cajun Queen and eat at Bojangles. The sauce on my meal was watered down and it had so much cayenne pepper in it that I had to drink two glasses of water to finish it. I told the server about it and we were given a free desert, but I don't suspect I will ever go back unless someone insists and is treating me. more

if you like your food prepared this is it. 8/29/2010

really good food. i would like the dessert menu to offer more of a variety. when i order to go, they place everything delicately, not as if they are placing it in garbage bag like many places. more

My first trip to a Cajun restaurant 4/27/2010

This was my first visit ever to a Cajun restaurant, so I can say nothing about authenticity. I will say that my chicken ?touff?e was delicious and reasonably priced. It was very spicy, as the menu indicated it would be. I would have preferred some side dish to have been included, not just rice. Dishes of other diners looked very good but similarly sparse, like the blackened catfish next to me which had two fillets on the plate and a decorative lemon, but nothing else. I'll go back. Pros: delicious food, pleasant ambience, live jazz Cons: uneven service, sparse plates more

been going here ever since they opened. i love everything about the cajun queen. whenever i have family in town i take them out here for a great time! Pros: good food, live music Cons: none at all more

I've loved this place for 20 years 3/29/2010

My family and I have been going to the Cajun Queen since 1990. Tim has always gone the extra mile to make our dinner a great experience. The BBq shrimp are the best in the land and the fried oysters are to die for. We sometimes sit with the music and other times on the beautiful patio. When I got laid off a few years back Tim even bought my dinner. This is a special place. I would recommend this place to EVERYBODY!! Pros: Live music, friendly service, amazing food Cons: only open for dinner more

Poor customer relations! 3/3/2010

My choir reserved a week ahead of time an area near the band upstairs. When the 10 of us arrived a few minutes early, we were told by the hostess that there was a little ""glich"". We were informed that another group was in our reserved area and they wouldn't be finished for awhile. We were asked to wait at the bar or to sit downstairs at a table by the fireplace instead. We said that wasn't satisfactory and asked for the manager. Tim arrogantly informed us that he was the manager and the owner and what would we want him to do? We said we should have the space we reserved or at least some concession while we waited such as complimentary bar drinks. We were then told that if the party in our places took over a half hour, he would consider it-but suggested again that we take the downstairs area. Since we chose this restaurant because of the music we then left and went to another restaurant where we were treated with respect. We saw a limosine waiting as we left and felt that either this group had lots of money or some other advantage over us. Our church family and friends will not patronage Cajun Queen from now on! Pros: Good music Cons: Very unpleasant manager and owner! more
