It's in a strip mall on Westheimer. Small place with chairs that roll. But it serves real butter with homemade bread, real half & half with your coffee, and some of the best food in the Houston area. Appears to be family operated - very attentive service. Did I mention that the food is excellent here? Reminds one of those small, nondescript cafes in Paris that serves good food. Did I say how much I enjoyed eating here? Definitely a must do in Houston!!!! Pros: Food, Service, Price more

The food was mediocre at BEST. We had the lunch special which was bland and tasted like it came out of a can. The fries were the only good thing we had between the soups, entree and desert. Cons: Bad food more

Those who are fans of Cafe Montrose understand that the rolling chairs and relaxed service are part of the experience. The ladies who are the face of the establishment are from Brussles, and do not try to apologize for their lack of pretention. The food is honest Belgian, and the atmosphere reflects a certain authenticity of character that you rarely see in "ethnic" restaurants anymore. If you go expecting an American hustle, you will of course be disappointed. But, go with the idea that you are escaping for a few precious hours to a little quiet spot where trendy food critics don't drive chefs to drink, and you will become one of the fans of Cafe Montrose and its unique charm. Pros: Authenticity, Warm Ambiance, Affordable Variety Cons: Not Much Parking, Small Tables more

Great place for a casual dinner. Lovers of moules-frites, search no more - this is it (unless you can get to Belgium). The Edith Piaf music in the background is a great touch. Pros: moules-frites, casual atmosphere, music more

My husband and I love Cafe Montrose. This is what Belgian and nothern French foods are all about. We know what we are talking about because we are from the north of France, not too far from the Belgian border. It is a little of our home in Houston! For the ones who are seeking for REAL Belgian and nothern French, it is the place to go. Mussels and Fries are the best! Try the desserts also! Why do people go to so-called French places and pay twice the price? The staff is very friendly too. Great value!! Pros: Delicious dishes, Great value, Authentic Cons: waiting in line more

Wow wow wow! The best fries in Texas! The moules-frites dish is the tastiest meal I have had in a long time. Everytime I come I have a hard time to order anything else becaues the moules-frites are so wonderful. But I have tasted my friends' dishes and everything I have tried off their plates has been superbe as well. Desserts there are great, the Dame Blanche and Profiteroles. The music is nice French ballads!!! And Belgian photos and posters makes me wish I was in Brussels. But this place is as good as it gets if you can't go across the Atlantic. Pros: Delicious, Unique more

Concluding our great meal, we decided to step outside. Soon thereafter, the chef decided to join us. I was appalled when the first thing out of his mouth was a horribly broken French/English dialect saying "American women, they are soooo fat! American women, all they do is eat "cheeps" and "keshup". All the while he keeps puffing out his cheeks and holding his arms out to resemble a fat person. I can honestly say that our body-types did not initiate his need to express how he feels about Americans. This, coming from a man that probably hasn't seen his shoes in 20 years, blocked by a stomach that has been eating french fries and mayo his entire life. Monsieur Chef, let the truth be known, even though Americans have gotten heavier these days - we can work on that. Unfortunately your French rudeness will always be the "weight" you carry! more

It is actually possible for the working stiff to enjoy French/Belgian cuisine. However, this is the only French restaurant where you can come casual to eat affordable and tasty French food. I'm not saying no snobs come here, but you don't have to be rich or be a French speaker to learn about and enjoy the delicious offerings here. The owner and the waitstaff are anxious to please. True, the decor is modest, but it is also what keeps the cafe from being intimidating.....The soups are great and the Profitéroles for dessert are absolutely exquisite! Pros: affordable, terrific quality, comfortable Cons: little parking, crowded at times more
