Cafe Lago

Last Sunday, a group of us went here after church for a nice casual lunch...We arrived at 11:50, placed our orders at noon, and by 1:00 pm our food had not yet arrived...Ironically, this was not the main issue we had..Besides empty glasses and complete neglect from the servers, we encountered the rudest, ugliest Manager/Owner types I've ever met...A gentlemen from our party went to inquire about our food and was met with a confrontational and hostile lady that said they were working on it, ""Can't you see we're busy!!"".......She approached our table a few minutes later and told all of us(including several 5 year old children) that she was not going to be ""bent over and spanked over this""...She gave us an insincere apology(more of an 'I'm sorry' you have a problem with us), was extremely rude to all of us and still would not tell us when we could expect our ever so-complicated order of sandwiches and salads. She gave us excuses such as ""well, you came when everybody else did and we're busy""...I'm so sorry we showed up a LUNCHTIME and threw a cog in your wheel...We all decided that we did not want to give this place one dime and got up and left....Regardless, this place does not deserve to be in business and in my humble opinion... the horrible, rude, and ugly Manager/Owner certainly DOES deserve to be bent over for a spanking. The service is terrible; just don't complain about it. If you do ask the owner when your food is coming, you'll learn that she is the rudest person on Earth. We waited a very long time for our order. The Lago Burger piqued my interest because they ""grind their own meat'. It was very strange tasting and came with mustard although I asked for mayonaise.\r My water glass sat empty almost the entire meal. When I stood to get it refilled, the surly waitress (perhaps owner) said they would bring it to me. The first time I ate at this restaurant I fell in love with it. The breakfast tacos were very good. It was so good and the location was perfect that my fiance and I decided to bring his family there the next time they came to town. We didn't notice the owner this time. But the next time we did. \r \r We had the unfortunate experience of the owner taking our order. She was very clearly unhappy and told my fiance's sister to ""SPEAK UP! I'll skip you and come back"" when she was taking her order, then she skipped my future Mother-in-law for being too slow too. We should have left that instant, but we were hungry and it was the only place that wasn't PACKED during breakfast...now I know why. I felt terrible for bring them to a restaurant where they were yelled at and disrespected. \r \r We went back a couple of other times (giving the owner the benefit of the doubt...maybe it was a bad day), but every since the second time we've been in, she has been there and it has been tense. The owner can always be heard yelling (sometimes cursing) at her staff in the kitchen, you can also see the owner glaring at everyone in the restaurant. The food is good, but it isn't THAT GOOD. I will NEVER return. \r \r If you MUST check this place out...please do. I guarantee that you will have a similar experience. The owner is amazingly rude and the service is slow. This restaurant is the best find in our neighborhood. The food is very fresh, unique, well presented and tasty. There is an emphasis on healthful eating, but plenty of yummy treats like their famous Corn Pudding and their Sweet Potato Fries. The Lago Omelette is by far the best in town. I have read the other reviews you have of this place and consider that mean spirited and unfair. The staff is very nice, the morning waitress is very thorough and pleasant and on nights and weekends the wait staff has lots of cute, helpful young men. The owner is always there and she is funny and never stops working. She's not one to come up to a table and schmooze, but she is very efficient and is always on top of things. The place is small so staff conversations can tend to carry over, but I still manage to be able to do my reading, etc. I like going because I enjoy patronizing the small businesses in my community and they do their stuff well. I have tried to be a good patron of this restaurant since the year they opened, but I have finally had enough. I am tired of the inept wait staff, snail-paced service, over priced menu, small portions, and the caustic, rude (and obviously unhappy) owner!! We've been to this place twice. We won't be back again.\r \r The food is mediocre and is WAY overpriced. I had a grilled chicken salad for lunch during our second visit. It was gross. Chicken was tough and unseasoned. \r \r Also, the owner is not a friendly person. The staff scurries around her like they are terrified of her. I had a friend who met some people there one day and the owner asked her to leave when all she wanted was water. \r \r Try elsewhere!! The food had been great in the past. I have dined here 3 other times. On a Sunday visit in December the OWNER/CHEF was so rude and snooty I left before the order was taken. She insisted to stand nearly on the table demanding on order that moment. NEVER AGAIN will I EVER return. \r \r Service is a must and can make or break a business.
