Best

I like the option of getting avocado and expensive gourmet foods you don't normally get when you eat out. Its a breath of fresh air from plain, ordinary food. Pros: Grown-up...

Worst

Good for fast food. But get ready to pay upscale prices. A reasonable value for money. A McDonalds for adults. Tipping not necessary so there is a 15% savings.

Salads are small 6/25/2008

I got one of the salad entrees and it wasn't bad, but I was miffed about the size of it, it wasn't cheap and it was significantly smaller than at other restaurants, only very slightly larger than a dinner salad. more

OK food, horrible service 6/23/2007

I have gone to this location twice now. The food is alright, nothing great. The service, wow, it was horrible. Very rude people that work behind the counter. I will say they do have excellent tea, but nothing is worth going back in there to deal with the staff they have. Pros: location, tea Cons: service more

Cold dishes and Over Priced 3/21/2007

In all fairness to this restaurant which is located on West Gray, we have have been there several times to give them a fair chance to show if the discrepencies we experienced were a one time occurrence or an established pattern. We really tried giving them the benefit of the doubt . Each time we ordered the soup, salad and sandwich combo, the soup was served cold, however when brought to their attention they were nice enough to re-heat it . One uncrowded evening we went there and found several unclean tables in one section, and we were just looking for a place to sit, not to inspect or clean. Also the portions of tuna salad and/or chicken salad on the sandwich, were meeger.\r The portions on the soup, salad, and sandwich combos doesnot justify the price. On the positive side their pasta dishes are tasty, yet pricey, and cool quickly, indicating that they're not warmed enough. Their Currant Tea is very good, and about the only item on the menu that is cost proportionate.Overall,... I would not recommend this restaurant.. Pros: Good Currant Tea Cons: Cold over priced Dishes more

go here if there is no other option for lunch 11/20/2006

although this place is trendy, the food is nothing to boast about. the quality is not that great and over-priced for extremely small portions. the wine bar is probably one of it's better highlights, but even then, their wine list is limited and only offer decent wines. only go here if you are desparately hungry and if there is no other options to dine at for lunch or dinner. i try to go here sparingly.* Pros: maybe the wine bar? Cons: food!, pricey more

Beware of the Condiment Bar 11/15/2006

I know it's so hard to resest free food but beware of the condiment bar at Cafe Express. I have witnessed some unappealing things in those jars. You could see layers of old food where they just keep piling on new product meanwhile spoiling product underneith. People were actually eating this. When it was brought to the managers attention he didn't look surprised. He didn't offer any appologis just took the jars away. I really lost my appetite after witness this. This makes me wonder wahats going on where we can't see? more

Top gourmet accents anywhere. 7/12/2006

Fast Food to with a Flair 3/10/2003

Good for fast food. But get ready to pay upscale prices. A reasonable value for money. A McDonalds for adults. Tipping not necessary so there is a 15% savings. more

Best American Cafe in Houston 2/10/2003

Cafe Express inside Museum of Fine Arts Houston is the best American Cafe on Planet Earth. Express Burger and Ice Tea is my favorite. Sam Rupani Houston, Texas, United States of America. Pros: Service ( Technology), Products, Price Cons: Lack of Awareness, Lack of Specials more

Whoopty Doo Daa 2/10/2003

Great Food, great prices, great decor, great atmosphere, and fast service. more

Great Variety! 2/10/2003

You can never get too much Cafe Express. You can find a little bit of everything on the menu and they don't mind making substitutions. more

Excellent Salads & Healthy Fare 2/7/2003

Although the restaurant is cafeteria-style, the food is fresh as they make each individual dish. The decor is usually tastefully decorated and food service is pretty fast. more

Not a bargain! 2/7/2003

Very disappointed in my dining experience at Cafe Express. Ordered soup and chicken salad sandwich. Small portions for the price and sandwich was served using french bread slices. Did not consider it a bargain. Thought it was pricey for the food I got. Cons: expensive more

Are you people high! 2/7/2003

This is really overpriced, crappy selection, suburbanite chain restaurant food!!! Next time try one of the real family owned gems that are all over the city. more

Best 1/29/2003

Good service, even when busy minimal waits. Offers wine and beer. more

Blah. 1/29/2003

Food is only OK. Not worth the long lines that crowd the place during lunch hours. more

TejasLdy 1/10/2003

The best! I've been a satisfied customer for about 10 years now. Pros: Great food, Inexpensive, Consitent overall Cons: Occasionally crowded more

We don't like it 1/6/2003

I ordered a Cafe mocha-it tasted weak. THE BARISTA DIDN'T KNOW WHAT A SHOT WAS, NOR THAT SHE SHOULD HAVE PUT A SHOT IN. 2 hours before closing they were already out of roasted chicken. Do you hate that as much as I do? Follow-up: Hmmm Mega-Marshalls with 1.5 hours to kill. To my horror the closest place for a cappuccino was Cafe Express. You know you are in for a treat when the ""Barista"" has to open a book and look up the recipe to a Cafe Mocha! I tipped him a dollar for using the clean steam wand at my request rather than the one with ??? hours encrusted milk on it. The manager had to show him how to make foam, great except that he used the encrusted steam wand. Cafe Express: Making cappuccino is not easy, you have to know what you are doing. Cons: Lousy, amatuer staff, noisy more

Shrinking Portions 1/3/2003

I've been a loyal customer since 1992 and have watched the portions get smaller and smaller and the prices get higher and higher. The chicken breast they now serve is HALF the size of what they used to serve. It's a crime for what they charge for half a breast, a dab of pasta and a side salad. Hello, the food cost is almost nil on that menu item. I've never understood citysearch putting it up for cheap eats, cuz it has never been cheap! It is fast and healthy and has a pretty crowd. Pros: Delish, fast Cons: expensive, small portions, long lines more

Cheap is Relative 12/25/2002

I would never refer to Cafe Express as Cheap. Great food, nice atmosphere, and friendly staff yes. Cheap eats no. Unless you have water and the condiments island. That is the brother inlaw special. Pros: Food, Staff, Selection Cons: Waiting in Line more

TOO EXPENSIVE 11/27/2002

IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE I DON'T KNOW WHY IT WON BEST CHEAP EATS. IT COSTS LIKE 10 DOLLARS FOR A SALAD. BUT THE FOOD IS GOOD. more
