Best

Best coffee (au lait) I've found in the South. Beignets are served hot, doughy and not too sweet. The sweetness cones from the generous powdered sugar. So happy I hit to taste ...

Worst

Everyone, and I repeat everyone must go there the first time they visit New Orleans, but this is only because it is a must, not because of the menu or the service. It is historic...

Benigets & Au Lait 8/18/2002

I love this place. After a late night of clubbing friends and i sit down for a nice plate of warm benigets and some great cafe au laut. It's the best and the street looks so beautiful at night. Pros: delicious benigets, inexpensive, ambience Cons: service is baaad, afternoon is crowded more

Don's done 8/13/2002

Quick and easy breakfast that should satisfy anyones sweet tooth and craving for cajun coffee Pros: Cheap, Quick, Accessible Cons: powdered sugar, smoking idiots more

yum 8/13/2002

I love these little donuts that have so much taste. To top it off you can have it with chocolate milk or coffee. It does not get any better than this. more

You have to see this... 8/8/2002

Great place to people-watch because there are plenty of people of all kinds to watch! Plus, you can't go to New Orleans and not have some beignets! more

YUM YUM 8/5/2002

THERE'S ONLY ONE THING WORTH MENTIONING---BEIGNETS!!!!!!!!! NOTHING CURES A HANG OVER LIKE WARM FRESH BEIGNETS. more

Better than heaven 7/23/2002

Whenever we are in town, this has to be the first stop. I can't call it a vacation without going to Cafe du Monde. It's the best place for people watching. Pros: inexpensive, excellent food Cons: sometimes long wait, sometimes crowded more

Cafe do taste 7/19/2002

This is the heart of New Orleans. Cafe du Monde is fantastic. I recommend it to Anyone who's SOMEONE!!! Pros: Affordable, Delicious, Warm Cons: Crowded more

Don't waste your money! 7/3/2002

Okay, the beignets are fairly decent, but they're basically soapapillas (the Mexican equal) with powdered sugar on them. Buy a box in a grocery store (not the French Market!) and make your own. Whatever you do, don't get your coffee iced no matter how hot it is! If you do, you'll get maybe five swallows of it before it's gone, they put so much ice in it. I'm surprised anyone who lives in N.O. would bother to go there. There are tons of tourists, the lines are very long and they're expensive. I live in the Northwest where my latte's cost 99 cents. My experience was very bad, so there's no way I would recommend it. Cons: everything more

Over-rated! Skip It! Go anywhere else! 6/27/2002

Want a hunk of fried greasy dough early in the morning? That's what you get here. Covered in powdered sugar. Given that New Orleans has great restaurants like The Coffee Pot, Brennan's, and even La Madeliene, there is no good reason to go to the biggest toursit trap in New Orleans. The coffee tastes like mud. Good news, just one block down is La Madeleine for a better breakfast. Or just one block over, and two blocks down is The Old Coffee pot, one New Orleans best places for breakfast. Cons: greasy overcooked, really bad coffee, rotten service more

24/7 6/10/2002

Whether youre starting your day or ending your night, this landmark cafe is a must. Fuel up on New Orleans version of a doughnut--beinets (Ben-Yeas), accompanied by coffee and o.j. Across the street from Jackson Square, rain or shine, your breakfast/late night munch will be accompanied by the piano player outside and great people watching. Pros: Snacks more

Yummy! 6/2/2002

The only real menu here is coffee and beignets, a square French donut dusted with powdered sugar, that are to die for! You can have Cafe Au Lait, which is a chickory coffee blend topped with half a cup of cream. Or just plain old coffee. The plates and cups are the heavy type used in old diners. Liked it so much we brought ground coffee & beignets mix home! Pros: Great beignets, Inexpensive Cons: crowded more

A N.O. Tradition 5/29/2002

I've been coming here since I was a kid. Now I order coffee with my beignets instead of hot chocolate, but that's about all that's changed. The beignets are the stuff of Krispy Kreme-cravings. Different taste, but same addiction factor. I've tried beignets at a handful of other spots around the South and none compared, or were even edible for that matter. The Chicory coffee is incredibly flavorful and the perfect accompaniment to the light, fluffy sweets. Sit, chat and people watch for hours. It's a New Orleans tradition. Pros: beignets and coffee Cons: touristy more

Sugar, Sweet Sugar 5/16/2002

Beignets and coffee--what more do you need? Whatever else you need, you won't find it at Cafe du Monde, but you will find perfect, fresh-from-the-fryer hot beignets and steaming cafe au lait, a sublime combination perfect at any time of day, especially late in the evening or early in the morning. more

Touristy, but a must-see 5/15/2002

Sure, it's packed with tourists at all hours. But this has to be on everyone's must-do/must-see list for a trip to NO. The beignets and coffee are hot and cheap. Pros: Hot beignets Cons: Jam-packed more
