Cafe Christa

Three stars and all are for the service. Our waitress was a bubbly, friendly lady all dressed in her Leavenworth best. My husband wasn't feeling well so he just ordered the French Onion soup...mistake...it was very bland and there wasn't any toast under the cheese. Sad face :-( I ordered the Potato Pancakes and added on the Weissworst. The Weissworst was good but the pancakes left something to be desired. Very ""battery"", for lack of a better word, inside and not very crispy on the outside. Apple compote was overpowering. The best part about or day trip to Leavenworth was the drive. Unfortunately the food, the shops and the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. I realize it was the deepest part of the off season but it just felt like the shopkeepers didn't care. So unfortunately Cafe Christa, you have huge potential but missed the mark. A coat of paint and fresh carpet would be a good start :-D Perhaps you could start poling your clientele to see what they want out of an ""Authentic German Cuisine"" restaurant. Never know unless you ask right? more

This was our first trip to Leavenworth. We ate at the Beer Garden the first night, so decided to treat ourselves to an ""upscale"" restaurant the second night. What a mistake. This meal was terrible. It tasted like grade school food, but worse. The carpet was filthy and and servers bored. My husband is a big eater, and his beef was so terrible he couldn't even eat it. Do not waste your money and time here. We were very disappointed. We had to get a gelato across the street just to get the taste out of our mouths. The gelato was great though. Cons: Food more

So this weekend we crossed the mountains and went to Leavenworth. Since we have only eaten there once before we decided to try a different restaurant from the one before which was very good. OK so overall everyone thought the food was above average except for the spatzel. I had the meatloaf (lunch special) which was very tasty and came with read cabbage and spatzel. others order the jager schnitzel and one ordered just the spatzel. The food timing seemed to be off because both my side of spatzel and the spatzel plate were cold while the others were hot. we notified the staff and they corrected it immediately. Once we started everyone agreed that the food was above par but the spatzel was only average. The staff was friendly and checked on our status without being overwhelming. The beer was very good and we lucked out with a good window seat. So bottom line although the food is above average I would do the lunch special since it is a bit pricey for the normal dinner plate. I would have given it 4 stars but they got dinged for cold food and so so spatzel. For a German restaurant, the cheese spaetzle were a disappointment. Under-seasoned, over-cooked bowl of noodles for $14. When I told the server that I was disappointed, she asked, ""Have you ever had spaetzle before?"" Yes, I've had spaetzle in Germany and Switzerland, as well as the previous year at Cafe Christa (!!) and the mush that evening was nowhere close to the expected quality. I was surprised that there was no adjustment to the bill nor even an apology when I voiced my dissatisfaction.
