This place is perfect for a large gathering, there is a lot of space to go and there are a lot of tables to be turned as one table. There is really so much space in here. more

NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!!! 8/14/2010

Eddie and May are always extremely accommodating! They take Asian cuisine to a whole new level! We always try something new, whether it is the red snapper special or the amazing lamb lollipops... Hands down, best dumplings in town! Great wine list as well... Enjoyed my best birthday dinner with theses two talented chefs! Try it once and you'll be recommending this place to everyone you know!! more

Delicious! 8/12/2010

What a wonderful menu! While they offer some of the traditional dishes you would expect to find in a Chinese restaurant, they offer so much more. The Chilean sea bass with Asian pesto is one of my favorites. It is so delicately prepared and perfectly paired with baby bok choy and shitake mushrooms. Of course you can't go wrong with the beef short ribs, so tender and delicious, they melt in your mouth! The Japanese eggplant in garlic sauce compliments any dish perfectly, and it's a must to start with a cup of the hot and sour soup. Great wine list too :) more

BEST HAPPY HOUR 8/12/2010

Has one of the best happy hours being it lasts from 11AM to 7PM when most other restaurants only last 4 to 6. I especially like their cosmos. Given the fact that it is family owned and operated you get the home cooked feel and atmosphere. more

A pitch perfect Chinese restaurant 8/10/2010

What has always been great about the restaurant culture here in Houston is the access we have to authentic international restaurants owned and ran by real families, and Cafe Chino would certainly qualify as that - a REAL Chinese restaurant. I capitalize REAL, because I'm not talking about syrupy goop on some overly battered and charred piece of pseduo chicken. I'm talking about the real stuff, where you can find the usual Hunan standards, though there is nothing common about the grub once you actually taste it. Compare their General's Chicken to any other restaurant, for example. I like to compare their version of General Tso's chicken with what you would normally encounter at other Chinese restaurants. On such a basic dish, you can already see how Cafe Chino sets itself apart. It would be unfair to compare their Sea Bass to another Chinese restaurant's, obviously, as I cannot even think of another Chinese restaurant that would offer Sea Bass, let alone at such a high quality. It is one of only a tiny handful of real Chinese restaurants in town, and certainly the only one within a 15 mile radius. Aside from that, the entire dining experience is casual yet easily elegant enough for a night of fine dining, and always stylish without being polarizing. And to me, the food at Cafe Chino is akin to their decor - it can be perfect as an impromptu destination for lunch on some random afternoon, or you can order the signature chef inspired dishes and make it a night of exploratory Chinese haute cuisine . Like I said, it's just pitch perfect, depending on what kind of night (or day) you want it to be. more

Excellent food! 8/7/2010

I used to go to this place in Rice Village all the time but the past few years I've avoided Rice Village due to all the bars that have opened. Lack of parking. Drove by there new location and decided to give it a try. What a transformation? This place is sleek and modern. Very nice looking bar and dining room. Service was fantastic. They have the same great food as I remember and wonderful desserts that you wouldn't normally have at a Chinese place. This is definitely a unique Houston restaurant. more

Not your ordinary Chinese Restaurant! 8/7/2010

This place is fantastic. Great new location with plenty of parking now. Very easy to get to than the location in Rice Village. This restaurant offers something for everyone. It has great service to go along with the great food and that's very rare for a Chinese restaurant. Definitely worth a try!!! more

Best Chinese Food in town 7/6/2010

I felt compelled to write this review because I feel I have found a diamond in the rough. In a city that is not necessarily known for having a great Chinese food scene, Cafe Chino proves that Houstonians may yet have at least one Chinese restaurant to brag on. The decor is sleek and modern with a bar perfect for unwinding after a work day. But it is the food that really blows me away. Cafe Chino offers a wide variety of Chinese dishes for every type of eater. Their traditional Chinese plates are a full head and shoulders above any other Chinese restaurant in town. There really is no Chinese restaurant in Houston that can compare. If you have a more adventurous palate and choose from one of their daily specials you are sure to be in for a unique treat. Most of their specialty dishes stray from the limitations of the traditional Americana Chinese meal (i.e. General Tso?s Chicken, egg rolls ect?) and resemble more of a type of Chinese fusion. I can say with absolute certainty that their Chilean Sea Bass is one of the best I have every had. If you are looking for a great upscale Chinese restaurant in town be sure to check this place out. You will not be disappointed. Pros: seafood dishes Cons: none more

Lunch at Chino 4/23/2010

Had a nice quiet lunch at Cafe Chino. I was happy with the service and was happy with the freshness of the food. I will be having lunch here again with co-workers. more

Great Chinese Food w/ great service 4/7/2010

This place was delicious. So unlike anything I've had. Its kills the competition in the area. Pei Wei, Qin Dynasty got nothing on this place. The fish dishes are to die for. The server recommended them to me and said they were Cafe Chino specialties. Wine selection was pretty decent for an Asian restaurant. Most asian restaurants have your typical crappy house wines. This place seems to really differentiate itself from everywhere else. Its a very modern design but still inviting. The bar is amazing looking. They have a lot of good variety on the menu. They also have great Happy Hour that I will certainly take advantage of. Anyways, I will certainly make this place a usual stop. Great stuff!? Pros: Fish dishes more

Nice atmosphere 3/29/2010

The atmosphere looks modern and artsy. It is peaceful place without any stressful waiting period. The dumplings and edamame are awesome. Pros: good appetizers more

Delicious, convenient, friendly, and affordable! 2/20/2010

We've been Cafe Chino fans for decades, starting with their West University location. The consistency in service, menu options and ambience provides a familiar and comfortable dining experience - lunch or dinner. The dumplings and General Tso's chicken are our favorites (and best in town!). Eddie does a fantastic job running the restaurant and Chef May has extraordinary talent in the kitchen. We love the family-feel and always pick Cafe Chino when we have Hunan cravings. The new location in the Greenway Plaza area is very convenient with easy access from 59 and 610. It has an open-ambience feel and a snazzy bar. When we don't find the dine in, take-out is easier than ever. Pros: Family run and friendly Cons: Bring a location to West Houston more

BEST CHINESE FOOD IN HOUSTON!! 10/21/2009

I live near the village and have always loved chinese food. I found cafe chino one day and my family and friends decided to order out from there. We ordered the Sweet and sour chicken, crab wontons, sesame chicken, and some pork dumplings. Everything was amazing and we loved it! We order out from there 2 times a week at least! It is closed now so we've been chinese food-less for a while! we miss you cafe chino come back! Pros: EVERYTHING! Cons: bad parking more

This place has it all! 2/9/2006

I took my dinner club Eight Friends Out to this hidden place in the village and had a great experience! Great service, great food in a lovely setting, at a great price. Some members of my club said they only eat Chinese here! I could see and taste why--Eddie is a fabulous host, and the food was very tasty. The homemade desserts were awesome to behold and even better to eat! Best of all was the wonderful aroma when I walked into the place! I wanted to chow down that very minute! I would go back in a heartbeat! Pros: Great food, Great service, Great price Cons: Hard to find, Difficult parking more

A masterpiece 9/14/2002

This is one of the best restaurants in Houston, period. Eddie Chan (the chef/owner) and his entire staff work tirelessly to serve some of the best Chinese food you will ever have in your life. For a special treat try the seared Chilean sea bass. Incidentally, the background music is soothing and elegant. Pros: steamed dumplings, Chilean sea bass, duck crepes Cons: None more
