Butchers Cafe

I had intended on going to Sabrina's across the street but the 90 minute wait led me across the street to The Butcher's Cafe. The food here was also very good. A little more expensive than Sabrina's though. We got a pitcher of the house sangria but it was on the weak side. I did appreciate the manager coming around and giving everyone 20% off coupons for dinner. I'd go back but with so many other places to try in the city, it might be awhile. Cozy ambiance, right in the heart of the Italian Market. Chef Todd is fabulous, everything was delicious, fresh and wonderful. The Italian Market appetizer could have used some greens, but it was delicious with the warm bread (Sarcone's ?). After staying off veal for more than 10 years for moral reasons, I was compelled to give the Marsala a shot. It was splendid, with just the right ingredients to make it interesting without overwhelming. My husband's veal parm was equally delicious, with homemade gnocci on the side. Servings are huge, no going home hungry after a meal here. Service was warm and intimate, and perfectly timed. Prices for specials seemed a little high, but the regular menu seems right on target. Didn't have time or room for dessert, but I would have loved to top it off with the chocolate torte. We plan to go back for brunch sometime soon.
