Best

There are many restaurants within walking distance as well as the great art supply store, Pearl. The inn is quiet and restful even though it is located in a busy part of the city...

Shippen Way Inn 8/12/2005

This is a very charming Inn located near Penn's landing. It is very small in that it has got only 9 rooms with private bath. There is also a beautiful garden and the front room has a gorgeous fireplace. The prices for the inn are pretty moderate but they do include breakfast and afternoon tea. It is a cute little inn which is very close to all the attractions of Philadelphia. more

Great B&B, OK location 8/6/2005

This is a quaint little bed and breakfast on 4th and Bainbridge street, which is one block south of South street. The building itself dates back 200 years. Each room is unique in both layout and furniture. Both times I've stayed there the rooms had their own bathrooms, but I believe there are some rooms that use a shared bathroom. The owners are pretty nice and informative about the city. The breakfast was hearty and included oatmeal with fresh berries. The price is pretty good compared with other B&Bs 2-3 blocks to the north. I say the location is not the best because South Street itself is a rough around the edges strip of bars, tattoo parlors, and lingerie shops that most likely would not appeal to those staying in a B&B. That said I actually like the location. The owners do a wine and cheese session in the afternoon too. more

  • The Scene
This is the perfect setting for tourists seeking living history. The charming inn harkens back to the days of Paul Revere, with decor that reflects the colonial style of 1750. It welcomes guests into a bustling reception area warmed by a lovely fireplace. Gardens abloom with seasonal herbs, and roses add to the old-fashioned tone of this countrified urban retreat.

    The Details
Full breakfast daily is complemented by tea, wine and cheese served each evening near the communal fireplace. With only nine rooms, personal attention to each guest is a highlight. Each accommodation is individually decorated with antique furnishings and a four-poster bed. All rooms also have private baths. As for location, it doesn't get any better than this. A few minutes' walk delivers you to Philadelphia's South Street, the charming River District, numerous parks and countless eateries.
