One of Austin's many charms 10/8/2005

Brrrr!! Barton Springs stays pretty chilly even during the hottest days of summer, but its beauty can't be beat. An all natural pool, it lies near the heart of Austin, and it's wonderful to hop into and cool off after playing hard at Zilker. Dogs and kids frolic in the clear water while college kids bask in the sun. Try going on a weekday if you can, when it's less packed, to really get to know this Austin staple. more

Great Pool Year Round! 9/14/2005

I have always enjoyed Barton Springs Pool because it's more like a swimming hole (really nice one) than a pool. It's always cool even the heat and it's open year round. Lately, they've had to close it for lengths at a time for one reason or another (was it the salamanders?) but it's always great when it reopens. The area around the pool is great for playing frisbee or running & playing with the kids. It's a great spot for picnics or just hanging out! more

A hidden treasure 8/29/2005

The Barton Springs Pool in Zilker Park is a great location to enjoy the Austin day. It is a blessing in the summer heat, but believe it or not, is the same temp in the dead of winter. The 68 degree water is quite cold, but you need to experience it atleast once. The fees on the weekend for parking are ridiculous, but that's Austin for you. The fee for the pool is $3 per adult, but get there early or you will be hiking to the pool-parking fills up quick, more

chilly but really good 8/23/2005

Barton Springs is really one of Austin's crown jewels. If you've never been - its a natural spring fed pool (so no chlorine) nestled between two big green grassy fields. Its great on a hot, hot summer day. But be warned it is kinda chilly. I believe its 68 degree year round. Once you get in for a few minutes it feels great. more

Place for fun 8/18/2005

Barton Springs Pool is a great place for having fun with your family. There are always lots of kids, and it is so great to see them having fun. The water quality is pretty good, I think we deserve that because we paid for it. It is fine we paid some fee to have a great time. I recommend it. more

Refreshing and Pure 8/14/2005

Barton Springs Pool is from the naturally occurring Barton Springs acquifer, and the temperature remains the same year-round. It's about 72 degrees, so it can be a little bit chilly, but it's very refreshing when it's summertime and hot outside. It's free to go and great for families, and the water is pure---so it's safe to drink and clean and safe to swim in. more

Awesome during the summer 8/13/2005

This pool is wonderful during the summer heatwave. The pool is spring fed so its kept at a constant 68 degrees. Admission is only $2 so it won't make a dent in your pocket book. It might take a little getting used to the temperature and also watch out for the minnows and sea weed. more

An Austin Classic 8/9/2005

Barton Springs Pool is located in Zilker Park, right down from some awesome restaurants and Peter Pan Mini Golf. The parking fills up pretty quick, and they charge for parking on the weekends, but the pool is worth it. The pool stays at 68 degrees year round, and is 3 acres in size. Bring a snorkel to look at the spring fed bottom and look out for the endangered salamander. more

COLD 8/2/2005

This is a great place for a family outing because it is a hop, skip, and a jump away from Zilker Park. The pool is a natural spring fed pool and is very cold. It is around 68 degrees year round. It gets better once you start swimming around, however. The area has great big trees for shade and are the perfect picnic locale. more

The Best Austin Experience to Give Your Guests 8/1/2005

If you live in Austin or if you visit Austin, you must go to Barton Springs Pool. It is a spring fed pool, so the water is quite chilly at 68 degrees year-round. However, what could be better on a hot summer day? The only drawbacks are that it is so popular that it can be a pain on sunny summer weekends. It also requires a fee on top of the sometimes parking fee of $3. It's an additional $3 per adult to get in. But all of the hassle is completely worth it at least once a year -- especially if you are introducing an unsuspecting out-of-town guest to the jewel of Austin. more
