The Best Bar in New York City 5/18/2008

I love this place. I've tried many things on the menu over the years and everything (from the chicken and goat cheese salad to the tuna tartare to the spring rolls) is absolutely delicious, even at 2 a.m. Beautiful space, great service, open late, and good beer. more

HORRIBLE staff 4/26/2008

went here as i was told the view was great - which it definitely is - and expected to have a great experience as the bar is located in the ritz carlton. HOWEVER, i was extremely disappointed in the service. the servers were rude and pretentious, especially a lady named camlin (i think that was her name?). i was hoping to check the place out before the outside deck opened for the summer but based on my experience, i will certainly NOT be going back regardless of how nice the view may be. only go to this bar if you want to overpay for weak cocktails and poor service. more

Great View 8/7/2007

This is a great date spot. The drinks are pricy, but worth it for the view. The service is okay, typical for hotel bars. Pros: view Cons: prices more

Great view, great drinks, great service 5/26/2007

Went on Fri eve. Had great time. Awesome views, service and drinks. NOTE: since its in a Ritz hotel outside seating closes at 10pm even tough the bar is open till 2pm. Pros: Drinks, Scene, Views Cons: Outdoor section closes at 10pm more

trendiest place in NYC 4/12/2007

This is hands down my favorite place to go in new york city because it is so close to my apartment. more

Go for the views 2/19/2007

I been to the rise bar both in cold & warm weather days. I actually like going better when the deck is closed, it is not nearly as crowded, the crowd is chill & the view is still beautiful. The service is okay, it is a Hotel bar and would not expect more then average service from a hotel bar. Go for the views?. Pros: view, view, view Cons: out of the way location more

View, of course 11/24/2006

One of the nicest views in NYC..not too crowded earlier in the night (the upstairs). Inside, can't see it being crowded unless the roof is closed. Great setup, ambiance. Be prepared for bankers/traders. LOTS of bankers/traders and golddiggers =) (I may look like the latter, but I am actually one of the former, heh) but always helps to be surrouned by a well-dressed, good-looking crowd Pros: View, types of customers Cons: can't remember any... more

No, No, No 9/27/2006

Assume that all positive reviews here were placed by employees of the bar/hotel. The view? "meh" - Who needs a view of Jersey? I expected something so much better from the Ritz. This is a poorly run bar catered to bridge and tunnel people who don't get out much. RUDE staff, stupid policies, and definitely not catered to the client - only to the convenience of the horrible, snooty staff. I used to work in an upscale hotel bar, and I can guarantee that the restaurant bar at a Howard Johnson's in North Dakota would be more worth the trip, than taking the elevator to this bar. Pros: absolutely none Cons: nothing but more

Gotta Go...From someone who knows! 10/20/2005

This bar is absolutley fabolous! Regardless of the season...its still a downtown mainstay for the super-chic afterwork crowd. The drinks are expensive, but there are plenty of fine young men on corporate expense accounts that are more than willing to pick up one or two. The lite fare menu is yummy, and the service is sooo Ritz-Carlton (ie: MY PLEASURE)! So, if you're looking for a cool after-work playground or an impressive Friday night date spot...Rise is IT! more

snacks but not food 9/9/2005

We got there about 7 on a Friday and it was standing room only both inside and out. We managed to snag a table outside after about 15 minutes. The view was breathtaking, and since you're not facing the city you almost feel like you're out of it. The food, however, was not filling at all. We got the seafood tier and a plate of mini-burgers, and it was nowhere near enough to satisfy four people. The portions of seafood were miniscule. I'm not a big eater, but we felt obliged to order more food, so we got an order of spring rolls, which were good, but then we had to order the dessert tier as well because we all were still hungry. Stop by for a drink, but eat somewhere else. Pros: View, nice-looking crowd Cons: small portions, pricey more

Spectacular Hotel Bar 8/29/2005

With such a wonderful hotel like the Ritz Carlton and an exceptional bar like Rise you may never go outside with the exception of the Terrace at the bar to enjoy one of the best sunsets you will ever see from a bar over looking the statue of liberty. Just Spectacular. more

Skyy Rise 8/26/2005

I arrived a little after 10pm after the terrace had closed so unfortunately, I missed the view from there. However, it wasn't too crowded for a Friday night and I got a perfect two seater right by the window - facing the water. From the other reviews, the view was a bit overhyped. Yes, it was beautiful and romantic to be able to see something so magnificent, but it just wasn't as amazing as everyone had described it to be. Rise is a small bar/lounge that has a very intimate atmosphere perfect to go for a date or with a small group of friends. Drinks are on the pricier side ($13 martinis) but they are absolutely delicious. Pros: romantic, service more

King of the World 8/23/2005

From the moment i set foot inside the rise bar I really felt like a king. I was seated promptly ordered my drinks and they came out the quickest I ever seen. The place was jumping with action and had a great vibe through the whole night. And Oh my God the food those tiny little hot dogs, hamburgers, and pastrami sandwiches are insane. Finish your night off with a dessert teir and a apple martini. It was just an amazing expeience. Get in early to get to the terrace space was limited that night but I'll be back for more!!!! more

A canker on the 14th floor 5/22/2005

And a blight on the Ritz Carlton name. I wish I had paid more attention to the mediocre reviews on City Search, and skipped this place all together. I received the WORST customer service I have EVER received in my life. One of the staff Kamelyn, was the most atrocious woman I have ever met, and has no place in the customer service industry; rude, condescending, and thinks she is somebody in her uniform. Just because you operate under the name of an established and renowned hotel, doesnt mean you deserve the reputation associated with it. And while I could comment on the fact that the staff managed to remove every person of color from the bar that evening, I will say only that they might as well hang a sign reading Ritz Carlton: No Class Allowed. Pros: NONE Cons: , Service, Clientele more

Best Bar in NYC 5/6/2005

We went to the bar on the 14th floor of the Battery Park Ritz Carlton for drinks before dinner at their restaurant, 2 West. The views from Rise are THE BEST IN THE CITY, with the harbor, staue of liberty, and amazing sunset views. The outdoor deck is perfect for an afternoon in the sun and the drinks are wonderful - try the Sky Rise. Food is good, service is great and we would go back every day if we could! Pros: VIEW, great drinks, great service more

Perfect place to talk! 9/4/2004

This was the perfect place to grab a drink after work! Beautiful view, delicious martini, and service was excellent. Probably a little bit on the pricey side, but it's worth the experience especially if you have great company! Pros: sunset, martini, outdoor seating more

The Ritz has done it again!! 6/27/2004

One of my favorite bars in the city!! This 14th floor hotspot has the best view in all of Manhattan. While it is a hotel bar Rise still manages to mantain a fun, edgy feel. Spectacular martini list, and a staff of bartenders that will blow you away with service. Get there early with a date to watch the sunset on the roof deck, and end the evening with some chocolate fondue!!! Pros: view, martini list, service more

Wow what a view!! 8/15/2003

I have worked in new york city for 25 years. I have been to most of the so called "views" of manhattan. From atop a 55 story midtown buuilding overlooking the city or the view from the south side of central park. No view in manhattan can come close to the veiw that you get from the Rise bar at The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park. more

It's the view 6/9/2003

It's a hotel bar. Although it's the Ritz, the decor says more Marriot. The drinks are below average at $10 a pop, and the food is not all that. Too much veggie and no enough fish. But on a warm summer evening, the cool breeze from the balcony makes the drinks go down a little easier. more

spectacular view 5/5/2003

I loved everything about this bar. The drinks were delicious (try the passionate martini). And most impressive is the spectacular view of nyc from any seat in the bar. Service was great too. I definitely plan to go back soon! more

  • On the 14th floor of the waterfront Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Battery Park, this elegant, inviting space boasts a gorgeous vista of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The interior is comfortable, with muted upholstery and innocuous lounge music. The young, well-dressed bartenders maintain a detached suaveness as they mix libations for the after-work Wall Street crowd, tourists and occasional wedding party. Out on the terrace, with its sweeping view west to Jersey, couples make romantic silhouettes in the setting sun. The multipage menu offers a little of everything, from cordials to calvados, from mojitos to madeira. Asian-inspired appetizers, sandwich and seafood platters, and chocolate fondues make it easy to stay all evening long.
