Best

This is a wonderful facility I went there in February 2008 and am going to be taking a CNA class there it looks like a nice place to work or I wouldn't take the classes there.

Worst

The US department of Health and Human Services put this place on its list of worst nursing homes in the country. It is listed as a "Special Focus Facility" in Table B "Facilities...

quite frankly, I wouldn't take my dog there. Dirty syringes, alcohol swabs, used and unused, dirty dishes, etc on the bedside table along with the current meal. No sanitation--NAC handled fecal material and never even washed her hands. Critical wound care is hit and miss, critical IV antibiotics require constant reminder. WHO is in charge? One nurse at a time who doesn't know what's going on. Narcotics being delivered to the wrong patient (oops, must be for someone else). Mostly blank looks and complete apathy. Waited over an hour for a nurse to respond to a call light. Doctor visits are on Sunday, OR Tuesday, OR Thursday--no specific time, no continuity. Constant state of disrepair, beds are scary, door knobs or loose and not operational, bathrooms have no disposal for soiled materials, this place is a death trap. I would opt for assisted suicide before agreeing to be a patient there. more

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.....that you do more research before choosing Franklin Hills. \r \r The nursing at this ""Skilled Nursing Facility"" was hardly skilled and the house physician was pretty much non-existent. Staff communicated to him via text and I never once spoke to him in person. My uncle did, and apparently that was a very pleasant conversation. Also when your own night nurse tells you she doesn't want to work there anymore and she is trolling your cousin to put in good words for her at other places, you immediately know something is up.\r \r They failed to pick up on blood clots in both my mom's legs because they were never very eager to refer her out for care. When I asked two different staff members about the swelling in her leg, they wrote it off as side effects from her stroke. I was told they would keep an eye on it but never once after the weeks she was there did they develop any real concern. It wasn't until she had a follow up with her neurosurgeon that she was given the proper attention. (Follow up I had to schedule myself) The neurosurgeon, even though she was not my mothers primary care physician, ordered the ultrasound that detected clots in both legs! I had to bring my mom back to Franklin Hills to arrange transportation to the hospital because she was told to get admitted immediately for treatment. I had thought they would want to know what was going on, but after I explained to the nurses on staff about the clots and that she may be gone for a couple days, while I was walking away they started to snicker. I understand she is not your mother, but at least do your job and show some compassion for your residents. \r \r I truly believe that it takes a special person to be a nurse and yes, there were a few diamonds mixed with the rest of the dirt clods. But after seeing my mother have a panic attack when thinking about the possibility of going back there, I know something was not right. The lack of response or pro-activeness from the medical staff was neglectful at best. If in doubt, start asking the staff because they sure aren't loyal or committed to this place.\r \r more

What an improvement! 3/13/2008

This once troubled nursing home has really been the victim of poor management, staffing and unfortunate legal advertising. The problems have been fixed and they now have a dynamic management team and staff who have really bought into turning the facility around and showing the area how wonderful they really are. The last survey follow up was deficiency free and they are striving for perfection with the next review. The great customer service, warmth and caring by the staff is felt throughout the place. Give Franklin Hills a chance! You won't be disappointed. Pros: Close to hospital and medical offices, great service Cons: limited parking more

One of the worst in the country 2/14/2008

Quite unfortunate 12/28/2007

Just walking through the doors of Franklin Hills I realized that it was a very hectic place to be. People were scattered, wandering aimlessly, yelling down the halls and seemed so disorganized that I was amazed any care could actually be given in such a facility. It was alarming that while I was there, there were two major catastrophes: an escapee resident and a routine fire drill. Neither seemed to be handled with any sort of efficiency. The fire drill only resulted in mass chaos as everyone in the building looked to others as to what to do. Many employees just randomly walked out of the bulding taking this time as a smoke break while others seemed to be doing what they were supposed to. I'd suggest much more training for everyone in the building. I must not be the only person with such an opinion as a rating for care homes within the nation were released not too long ago. Look for yourself where Franklin Hills rated in Washington. more
