An Excellent Dining Experience 1/17/2008

On a Holiday Shopping expedition to Troy and Royal Oak, we happened upon D?Amato?s Restaurant which was open for Sunday Brunch. With two kids in tow, we were looking for a less holiday hectic place to relax and eat. D?Amato?s was like an early Christmas gift. Your waiter was excellent ? very polite, personable, and patient. The Brunch food items were varied, delicious, reasonably priced, and there was no crowding or pressure to eat and leave. It was so relaxing and comfortable and there was even a four piece jazz group. We will be coming back to D?Amato?s on our next visit from Windsor ? maybe without the kids! Thanks, Rod and Jodi\r more

Awesome service and tasty food! 1/8/2008

Went to D'Amato's last week for dinner and had a great experience. The service was excellent! Had a waiter named Brad. He was very attentive but not too overbearing. Seemed to know the menu very well. I had the salmon with a pepper style sauce. Seemed to be cooked about right and the sauce was delicious. My friend had a pasta with chicken and spinach, I'm not sure the name of the dish. It was also very tasty as it had some kind of cream sauce. We had a few drinks after dinner at the attached martini bar. It's nice to be able to have dinner and then chill out without having to even leave the restaurant. I don't know if the place next door is owned by the same people but the martini's were awesome! Pros: Good service, martini bar attached Cons: Bring some change for parking in Royal Oak. Plenty of meters don't forget to feed the meters. more

Not good 10/17/2007

This place has gone down hill very disapointing, warm beer and wine. Tough chicken and fatty beef.. Very sad... I remember loving this place at one point. Not sure what happend. hopefully they can recover... Pros: great location and ambience Cons: poor food and warm beer and white wine more

Wow! D'amato's has a new chef. I had the chance to meet him, and he's from Tribute Restaurant. You must try his food. Pros: FOOD, food, fOOd Cons: Nothing more

NOT ITALIAN ANY MORE 7/12/2005

D'amato's has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. This last year, D'amato's has had the best food ever. You can order pork, veal, vegitarian, fish and all sorts of other cool things. If you like boring chicken and pasta, you can get that too. This place has such cool items on the menu that you have no right to do that though. Some of my friends are confused, because they think that this is an Italian restaurant. The truth is that it used to be years ago. I don't know, but it hasn't been for three, four or even more years. This is a restaurant that has European, American and Asian. It is just so cool. There is lots off booze too. Pros: cool location Cons: far away bathrooms more

Pleasantly Surprised ~ Good Overall 7/6/2005

Recently, some friends of mine arranged to meet at D'Amato's, a Royal Oak restaurant I had never heard of. I read the Citysearch user reviews and expected a mediocre experience. Yet I was pleasantly surprised. The food was fantastic! I had braised pork and sea scallops. The sea scallops were fresh, pork done to perfection, & the sauces delicate and flavorful. Plus the ambiance was hip and the service attentive (although they need new tables. The existing ones are a bit ragged). Overall, I liked D'Amato's and will probably be back soon. Pros: great food!, good service, hip design Cons: ragged tables, weird location, distant bathrooms more

Always Changing Always Great! 7/1/2005

D'amato's is a real treat. It is a restaurant that started out as an Italian neighborhood restaurant in the 90's. Changes in the staff, ownership, management and chefs made the restaurant evolve each year. This is not an Italian restaurant any more, and it hasn't been in a few years. D'amato's serves various styles of food from throughout the world. With the menu changing everyday, you never know what kind of food that you'll get. You can expect excellence though. This is the best that D'amato's has ever been too. I have been eating at D'amato's since it opened, and some of the friendly waitstaff are still from when the place opened. The huge wine and martini selection helps to make the restaurant and bars (they have two) very romantic. The cigars and long scotch list at Goodnite Gracies (their second bar) make the place hip. Pros: Creative Food, Losts of Scotch, Cool Music more

Going down hill..... 4/2/2005

The food at D'Amato's has been steadedly declining - the food is just average and that is not good for an Italian resturant in Royal Oak with Andiamos and Lepanto nearby. I had the cavatappi, which previously was great - but this last time - it was watery and too salty. The wait staff is great and the ambience is awesome, very romantic. more

Decent 3/10/2004

D'Amato's used to be one of my favorite resturants in Royal Oak. Service is STELLAR, atomsphere is nice and pleasant. However, I have noticed a steady decline in the quality of the food. I still frequent the establishment but my meals have become sub par. My mainstays are the cavatappi and the chicken marsala. Everytime I go expecting the same quality food, but the meals are either salty or sauce is too watery. I hope the food improves. I heard that one of the main chefs lfft, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with the decline in food quality. However, the service is great and friendly. Also, the hostess is hot. Pros: Service Staff, Ambience, Location more

stick with the appetizers 1/18/2003

Great appetizers; one of few places to get carpaccio in Detroit--makes a great dinner by itself. The green beans with gorganzola salad is great. Unfortunately I'd avoid the pastas. Usually overcooked and too many flavors competing. Entrees are good, but it's disappointing to have another so called Italian restaurant in Detroit that can't cook pasta. Service is usually very good. Pros: appetizers Cons: pastas more
