One step above uneatable. 8/28/2009

Well, we started out the evening excited about going to Ybor City and excited about eating at Acropolis. We were seated promptly and had great service. The problem came at the same time the food did. The Hummus tasted like bad over whipped cream cheese. The best way to describe our dinner was reheated five day old Pastichio. The most troubling part however, was the filth in the restroom. A good restaurant should have a clean restroom and good food. This is not a good restaurant. Pros: Location Cons: Filthy old food. more

Not a pleasant experience. A German c-rch right in the souvlaki platter. NOT RECOMENDED!!! They did apologize and comp all my drinks and food, but it was pretty gross. Pros: fun atmosphere Cons: unsanitary, poor service more

TERRBILE SERVICE!!!!! 12/31/2007

I would just like to say first and foremost that I've been to Acropolis many times and have always had a great time. Although the time before last my friend and I both found bits of glass in our drinks. She found a large shard in her water and all the waiters did was apologize and comp some of our drinks. I was very upset, but I liked the place and didn't want to cause any problems. The entire evening started when a friend of mine mentioned that she had never been to Ybor City before. Well every time I think of Ybor I think of all the great times I've had smoking on hookahs, getting drinks and eating gyros at Acropolis. So, even thought its a Sunday and the day before New Year's Eve, I insisted we all go to Acropolis. When being seated by the hostess I asked for a hookah menu and a drink menu. Then about 20 minutes go by and we still haven't been waited on. The hostess had to come by 3 times before someone actually took our drink orders. So obviously I was already upset at this point. A couple friends ordered some food. I recommended the gyros. I swear to you over an HOUR went by and our waitress was nowhere to be found. Finally we saw her on the other side of the restaurant dancing with 6 other waitresses. SIX! We waited for over an hour even though 6 waitresses were on shift. I finally told another waitress that we don't want to wait any longer for our food and that we just want to leave. No more than 15 seconds later our missing waitress ran out with cold food that she forgot sitting in the back for who knows how long. It was cold and stale and gross. Here's my favorite part! My friend looked over her receipt carefully and it said $6.42. So she gave the waitress a $10 and she only gave her back 2 or 3 dollars. There was no gratuity charge on her receipt. The lady just stole it from my friend's change! Pros: fun atmosphere, fun music Cons: terrible service, glass in drinks, unsafe environment more

Worst service EVER! 11/14/2007

My family of 10 called and made a reservation for dinner. Upon arriving, we were told they technically don't hold reservations so we had to wait outside until a table became available. During the while, they were sitting all other guests that came to the door. After an hour, we were told their policy was to NOT MOVE tables in order to accommodate large parties. We waited an 1 1/2 hours and because we were frustrated, one of the owners yelled at us while we walked away and went to another restaurant. He was rude and could not understand why we were frustrated for waiting 1 1/2 hours (no exaggeration). They kept saying to be patient - a table should be free soon. No food is worth that level of service! Cons: Worst service - Owner was extremely aggressive and rude! more

mature night out 6/16/2007

All my girlfriend and I were looking for was a little place to grab a quick bite before we checked out the town and we sure got alot more than that . As we approached we saw bistro tables along the sidewalk ( that was a surprise for a Friday night) and friendly faces . The staff was so great opening the doors and joking with big smiles on their faces . Instantly inside you realize this is no ordinary place , paper napkins being tossed in the air as opposed to the traditional plate . Mediterranean style techno provided by a live DJ and switch up every so often with some top 20 club jams . Excellent service , great food ...we ended up staying all night . Ladies may want to note that the place was FILLED with nice looking guys who were actually nice guys . No butt grabbing and lots of friendly dancing and hookahs of course . Over all I have NOTHING bad to say about this place . Two girls from Boston had a great time here and you will too . Oh and parking around the corner and clean bathrooms ...... Pros: attractive AND friendly faces Cons: it could be a bit bigger more

where your friends are 2/23/2004

Now that i moved to Chicago, I miss dearly the best restaurant in the world. The best people one can meet. The best food one can eat. And the best times one can remember. Anyone looking for a unique dinner experience with awesome people check it out, and ask for Sam or Costa and tell them Danny from Chicago said hello... Pros: serve amberbock, always open, great location Cons: , not in chicago more

Great Place 8/22/2003

There was good food and good people. At night they sometimes have a live Greek band, it is certainly something out of the ordinary, especially when you see people breaking plates and yelling OPA! more

If you dug the bar at the former Atomic Age, you'll be happy to know the new owners haven't painted over the funky terrazzo. If you dug the ambiance, food and people before the swap, you'll be disappointed. Everything has changed. The colors are now a monotonous green, and the atmosphere has darkened considerably.

    Classic Greek
The theme is Greek revival, and so the interior makes sense as a temple. It's decorated like one too. But the walls are devoid of the art and style that made Atomic so great, and we're left with the bar as the only focus. The interior still needs some je ne sais quoi.

Pan Flutes? Thank Athena they didn't go over the top. The music sounds like ordinary bump-for-your-rump club stuff, and the space here is really too small for that scene. If you're lucky with the timing, you may catch couple of excellent, hardworking singer songwriters and their lonely guitars here. Let's hope for more of that.
