Bad Experience...Would Never Eat Here Again 10/16/2010

The only good thing I can say is that we had excellent wine and the desserts were decent.\r \r The bad...every meal in our party of 6 people had issues. 3 people ordered the filet. All 3 filets came to the table well done. 2 were ordered meduim rare and 1 medium. 1 person ordered salmon and it came out over done as well. Crab cakes and a chicken dish were the other 2 people. Both those dishes came out cold and the chicken was very rubbery due to overcooking.\r \r The menu is over priced for the amount of food you get. We ordered 2 appetizers and we were very disappointed in the portion size.\r \r Just not a good place to eat. I would only go back there if I was asked to grab a drink at the bar. more

Excellent service, great wine flight, food good. 7/21/2010

I went here today with a friend to take advantage of their happy hour. It might be because they weren't terribly busy, but the service was excellent and perfectly attentive. Even after the place filled up, there was still appropriate attention. The wine flight was very good and educational. (Note: You get a lot of wine for $10, and I couldn't finish it.) I had the antipasti plate, which was acceptable - but the server made sure we had a neverending supply of bread. I would definitely go there again, probably with a friend who would share the glasses with me. Fun experience. Pros: Very generous wine flight w/ excellent wines; great service Cons: Food is not amazing but prices are OK more

Loved it! 1/26/2010

I live on Mercer Island and I have yet to step foot in Cellar 46, until last weekend. I showed up to meet an old friend during their Happy Hour (good deals on wine by the glass and an impressive wine list!) and we ended up hanging out and meeting other people at the bar. We almost closed the place down we were having so much fun. If you want to meet people and be social, I recommend getting a seat at the bar. Staff if friendly too. But if you want to relax and not be bothered, then grab a table and open a bottle of wine. Two thumbs up! I will be back for sure! Pros: Great place to meet up with friends more

Great Food 10/1/2009

Had a fantastic meal at Cellar 46. The seem to have made some changes since I was there a few months ago, because this was a great experience. Lance Pros: Value more

don't come here if you're hungry... 7/19/2009

40 minutes to cook a medium steak and chicken is a ridiculous amount of time. Especially when there were only 4 other dining guests in total in the restaurant. However, the ""medium"" steak was not so medium as it was ""well done"". No point in complaining to wait another 40 minutes for them to fix it. Server was nice though. Pros: Server was nice. Cons: Food could be better. more

Great place to relax and have great food and wine 3/15/2009

A friend recommended I try Cellar 46 and I am glad I did. They took great care of me from the moment I waled in the door. I had a great meal with a wine flight and learned a ton about Washington wines. They seem to have a very NW twist on their wine selection. They do not take recomendations so I would recommend going early if you want a seat at 7pm on a Friday. I should have known that but I did try some wines in their retail shop while I waited for a seat at the bar. Cellar 46 is a cool place and I give it 2 Thumbs up!!! Pros: Awesome wine list and great priced food Cons: NA more

In the cellar 1/29/2009

We were hoping for a nice birthday dinner for my girlfriend and were very disappointed in what we got from Cellar 46*.\r The evening started out in a positive direction. My girlfriend ordered from the prix fixe menu, I did not.\r She began with the dungeness crab dip. It was warm, gooey, and very good. They served it with crackers and sea salt potato chips. Unfortunately, the vinegar taste of the chips completely overwhelmed the dip. I had the soup of the day-crab bisque. It was fantastic. It was also the last really positive element of the evening. After our appetizers, we waited almost 45 minutes before we got our meal., during which time, no one even bothered to check on us.\r She ordered the meatloaf. It tasted like someone used burnt gingerbread men for the breadcrumbs. It was very dry and had very little seasoning. The mashed potatoes were fine, but not good enough to save the meal. I had the apple-stuffed chicken. It had an interesting flavor, but a little bland and a bit gritty. My polenta was also very bland and somewhat runny. The dressing on my mixed greens salad was sweet and tasty, but the greens themselves were warm and limp. I had the Substance Syrah with the meal. It is a nice aromatic wine out of Walla Walla with a pleasant berry taste. It is 12 bucks a glass or, the cost of purchasing the entire bottle at your local grocery.\r For dessert, we had the chocolate dipped cream puffs with raspberry cuolis. The raspberry was light and delicious. My girlfriend was a big fan of the cream puffs, but I thought it tasted a little rubbery.\r Total bill came to just under 75 dollars with tax and before tip. \r On another positive note, if I were taking someone out for appetizers and wine, I think this would be a great place to go. The wine list is very good and has a few unusual choices that were nice to see. It is a little overpriced, but it is also Mercer Island. The meal itself was not worth going back for. Pros: wine list, crab bisque Cons: service, meatloaf more

Cellar 46 is Great 12/16/2008

I was at Cellar 46 last week with a group of friends and we had a great time. The staff was great and they really took the time. We had some wine flights from the Happy hour menu and they took the time to talk us through each wine. The food was awesome and preiced really well. I had the braised beef which is one of their high end entrees and it was done to perfection. I think they seem to have really made some improvements over the last few months. I would say Cellar 46 is not to be missed if you are looking for a relaxed night out.. I live on the Island so I am so pleased to see that they seem to bew doing great and have brought such a cool atmosphere to Seattle wine bars. Jim... Pros: Nothing over $20 on menu more

AWESOME HAPPY HOUR 10/13/2008

I was so Pleased to see that Mercer Island could pull off such a cool place. I had heard about Cellar 46 for a while now but just got out to visit. I will be back. I had a wine flight for only $10.00 on a day the dow Johes was down 700. The food was teriffic and I was pleased to see they have created such a cool atmosphere for food and wine people. Totally unique and worth the visit. Be sure to go Tuesday through Saturday as the restaurant is closed Sunday and Mondays. I made that mistake the first time. Pros: No wait, great prices, free parking more

Try it! 10/8/2008

On the retail side, Cellar 46 has, arguably, the best selection of Northwest wines in Seattle (seriously). The retail staff (Kitrik and Ryan) is well versed (both new and old world wines) and they are extremely helpul and not at all pretentious. Their wine classes are actually informative and helpful. \r The wine by the glass selection at the wine bar is not as comprehensive as either Purple or Local Vine but their prices are far more reasonable than either and they do have an excellent assortment of choices.\r I believe they recently expanded the menu and while I'll miss the salads (if anyone from Cellar 46 reads this: please bring back the salads!) they have a great selection of light dinner fare. I recently had the Northwestern Crepe, which was surprisingly impressive, accompanied by the Vegetable Misto. Both dishes were well prepared and the staff suggestion for wine pairing was superb.\r The downside: it's on Mercer Island and while technically not Eastside (it's still 206) you do have to cross a Bridge AND go through a Tunnel to get there from here. more

I love this place!! 7/3/2008

I have never been to a place that was a retail wine shop and restaurant in one. I not only walked out with a case of wine for the upcoming 4th of July weekend (with a case discount!) but got to hang out with a friend of mine for a good 2 hours catching up over a couple wine flights. My friend got the Northwest Crepe (with the salmon), and thought it was hot and perfectly prepared (unlike the review from someone in Feb. Guess the folks at Cellar 46 read this website and listen to their customers and make changes when needed... good to see!). I had the Flank Steak and was very satisfied with my portion size (especially since it was only $19, which happens to be the most expense thing on the menu). Overall, we had a great meal and never felt rushed. Our server was a personable young lady, and it was the first time in a while that I was happy to tip over 20%. I'll be back for sure! Pros: Outside seatting when weather is nice Cons: If you need a Taxi, they are none existent on Mercer Island! So make sure to call one at least 30 min before you need to leave. more

Just in time for summer 6/24/2008

My girlfriend dragged me here the other weekend... and to be honest I'm not a huge wine guy. But the weather was great so we got to sit outside and to my surprise they had a couple beers on the menu too (so I was happy). They had some local jazz group inside and the place seemed pretty busy. The menu was small, but everything we got was good... I think it was a meat and cheese plate of types, a pasta dish (which tasted like home made! Yum!) and the stuffed pear for dessert. I'd recommend this place, even if you aren't a wine person. The atmosphere is great to just relax and chill... especially on live music nights. Two thumbs up! Pros: Free covered parking more

Great wine selection but horrible service 3/9/2008

I've been to this place three times, and while they have a good wine selection, the service is extremely poor. \r The first couple times I went there with a group and despite the fact that we were practically the only customers in the place, we had to get up and ask for service after waiting for what felt like a very long time. There were plenty of people working there, but they seemed to be more interested in socializing with eachother. We felt a bit like we were ignored guests in someone's home who just couldn't bother. We never experienced any rude behavior from the staff--it was more like apathy. It feels like a place where a few wine lovers (who seem to really know their stuff) started a business to have a place to hang out together and they really don't have any interest in customers. \r The reason I've been back is that the atmosphere and wine selection are good and there is literally NO other choice on Mercer Island. So, despite the poor service, I'll probably go back again when getting together with a group of people who need to meet somewhere in between Bellevue and Seattle. more

If you like luke warm food with your wine... 2/14/2008

I was here with two girlfriends and enjoyed the wine and the atmosphere. We were served ""Hot"" Crab dip way below temperature and the salmon crepe would have been delicious if heated. Our server was on again off again with his service. \r There are many other wonderful tasting bars that serve better, cooked food. I am thankful for that since I wouldn't want to eat here again. more

Looking for a great wine store/bistro? 1/15/2008

Exceptional service, comfortable atmosphere and vast wine selection. I would highly recommend the Cellar 46 to anyone who loves vino! Pros: Wine selection, wonderful food, friendly staff Cons: Hard to find for non-natives of the island more
