Superb italian food more

so disappointed 4/23/2011

Although the food was good, the service was horrible. The waiter was grumpy and impatient. We never received refills on our drinks. We asked for more bread and they didn't bring butter along. We asked for a starter to be an entree and he said he couldn't do that. And the only time he actually hung around was when he was waiting for us to pay the check. I think I'll pass there are too many good restaurants around. more

WORST SERVICE EVVERRRRR! 2/23/2011

I've tried to eat here about five times in the 3 years I've worked a block away. I absolutely hate going to LaScala's. Everytime I hope that just maybe, it isnt as bad as I thought, but no everytime I go its worse that the time before. It's not just me, I work with 40 other people that can say LaScala's service SUCKS! PERIOD. In fact I might have them all write a review so people can read what the service is really like.\r First and formost, it always takes forever before your drink and food comes out. I'll have an hour lunch break, and my food arrives 15 minutes before I have to clock back in. So I figured this one time, I'll tell the waitress my lunch break is only 45minutes so I cant wait too long for my lunch. They were not busy, I figured this should be an easy task. She must have forgotten about me because I sat there without even a glass of water for 45minutes. So i got up and went to the register and asked the girl standing there what was going on because I havent even gotten a drink and its been 45 minutes. She had the nerve to tell me to go sit back down with a full out attitude. EXSCUSE ME?! So I called her out on it, and asked for the manager, in which the manager says my food will be right out. Mind you I ordered a chicken ceasar salad.... They bring out a god knows what salad at exactly the 1hr point. So this is when I obviously got upset and the manager says to me oh I'll send you over a new salad. ARGHH!!! I couldnt even eat what they gave me or wait for what I wanted and had to leave in which they still charged me for their mistake! The whole time all three females I had to encounter gave me such attitude I wanted to cry. My favorite was the time where I saw a few of the tables around me get free bread. I asked the waitor if we could have some bread and he says to me we have to pay for it. HA! Are you serious? the jerk was going to charge us for something other waitors was giving free to the customers? Oh and dont be surprised if they jack the price of your food on your bill compared to what it's priced on the menu. They suposidly changed to prices for about a year now yet they still use hand out the old menu.... hmmm false advertisement?? My advise to the workers at LaScala's, if you cant be nice to your customers find a job that isnt customer service related because you all are horrible at your job. more

It used to be good 12/22/2010

I used to like this place a lot, but the service just isn't what it used to be. I always ordered the same appetizer, on my last visit I did the same and it was served to me differently than usual. The bartender who I had never seen before insisted to me that is how they always had been served. They took them off the bill, but I did not like his insistence at trying to prove me wrong. Food was always just average, but with poor service now too, I've changed my happy hour spot. more

Expected OK, Got Great! 12/17/2010

We don't get out of the suburbs too often but were going to the Walnut St. Theater and needed someplace close. Read some old reviews and tried to move to another restaurant but they were closed due to a private party. Thank God! The food at La Scala was excellent. There were 4 of us and we had the mussels (excellent red wine sauce), the bruchetta (creative and tasty) and the chopped salad that was HUGE and delicious. I had a special, the Trio Seafood, with abundant scallops, a lobster tail and lobster ravioli. It was wonderful. My tablemates LOVED their dinner. Our waitress was unobtrusive and yes, they did try to remove the plates too soon but we did tell them we were going to the theater. Nice atmosphere. Really a pleasant treat and will absolutely make the long trip into town to eat here again. more

Great place to enjoy friends and have a romantic dinner 9/21/2010

Great food, not so great service! 11/15/2009

Nice decor, mostly good food, but they take the plates away too soon! One person in our party was still chewing and his food was whisked away! My hubby went to the bar for a drink and his desert was take away uneaten. The calamari was way stinky, I couldn't get past the smell to eat it. Everything else was good, especially the chicken cannelloni and chocolate layer cake..The wait staff mixed up all the checks and was kind of slow and bumbling but overall we had a nice time there. Pros: The chicken canneloni is awesome Cons: not s good service, mixed up checks, taking plates too soon more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! 10/24/2009

I can not believe how terrible the service is. My wife has at least one source which clearly indicates that management of the restaurant is writing posative reviews for themselves. ABSOLUTELY UNCONSCIONABLE!\r \r Every time we have been to this place the service has been really disrespectful, and we have experienced racial discrimination by at least two waitors. We have never seen anything like this before and will never be back. Our server made some comments which were completely inappropriate and racially discriminating, and I will not repeate what was said here...its too shameful.\r \r Our food was served cold and tasted warmed up. The salads were ok, but that was the only good part. our night was ruined. NEVER AGAIN!!! This place sucks! Pros: nothing Cons: rudest service we ever had! more

Awfully RUDE service, BAD food! read the review... 9/9/2009

Set there with a colleague, I ordered a sald a pasta. unfortunately one of the tomatos served as part of the salad was... fusty. Nevermind that, i called the waitress to tell her that i took a bite off a fusty tomato so without me asking for anything other than taking the salad away she called her boss (the owner i assume). The woman comes to the table and said rudely ""I heard you wanted to talk to me"" so i said ""well, no, but if you're here, there was a fusty tomato in my salad, thought you might want to know"" and she said, ""I just tasted it myself, nothing was fusty."" I didnt argue, I just felt so offended by the gesture, we paid and left. Right when we went away, a lady with her two kids who were sitting right beside and whitnessed the whole scene, stopped me and said ""i just couldnt believe how rude she was"", i will never ever get back to this restaurant, neither any of you... the pasta wasnt anything to write home about by the way. Pros: None. Cons: fusty tomatos in my salad, RUDE service, banal offering more

Service was so poor that we will never come back. 1/31/2009

I definitely DO NOT recommend this restaurant to any of my friends!!! When our mediocre pasta entrees came and we asked for some cheese, the waiter just disappeared on us. After asking another waiter to bring our cheese, it FINALLY came when the food was cold. \r \r I was so shocked that our plates were taken away while I was still chewing on the food, that I was too embarassed to say anything to the waiter. I feel that we had been rushed out. Meanwhile, the restaurant was not busy with only 10% of occupancy. \r \r After the food was forced to be taken away, we had to wait ENDLESSLY for the check to come. By the way, there were no water refills. \r \r The restaurant was empty and service was sparse. WHAT WOULD THEY DO WITH A CAPACITY CROWD?! \r \r For a menu of this price point, SOME level of service is expected!!! \r \r This establishment seemed to lack any experienced management. Cons: Poor service and bad experience more

RUDE service, cold food 1/20/2009

(re: JFK BLVD location) Delivery service is terrible. It always takes over 1 hour to arrive. I don't mind the long wait, but it annoys me that they always tell me 30 minutes when they know it will take 1 1/2 hours. And my food never arrives hot. I can understand warm, but COLD is unacceptable. When I called to complain, the guy was rude. Seriously, take your business elsewhere! Cons: rude service, cold food more

Poor service 12/7/2008

We ordered delivery from La Scala's and they immediatly put me on hold twice. When I finally got my order in, they informed me honestly that it would take an hour for delivery, which is fine for a correct order of hot food. But I got neither and it took even longer than that. 2 hours after I ordered and called back once, the order showed up with no mozzarella on the Caprese salad, a cold stromboli, and cold Rigatoni alla Vodka. They were fine with taking the food off the order (paid on the phone with CC), but they actually sent the delivery guy to pick it back up!! They actually made him drive all the way back. Wow. Yet his attitude was the most positive element of the experience!\r \r All in all, bad food service, handled customers poorly. I don't recommend a 3 hour wait and debate for dinner to be delivered. more

great outdoor experience... 8/20/2008

I went to Lascalas with a group of friends after work.. We sat outside enjoyed drinks, appetizers and pizza. The food and service were both really good. I will definitely be back to try dinner... But this place has great outdoor dining. Most places in the city you feel cramped, that is not the case here... Sometimes you feel as if you are forgotten when you are outside, but our server was very attentive. HIghly recommend for outdoor dining... more
