Great experience! 4/13/2011

Went to the Little Hair Shoppe this past Sunday with my groupon for a professional blow dry. I needed my hair jazzed up a bit for a wedding so Dane walked me through some options that he felt worked well with my dress. He was spot on with his consultation! Would definitely go back again. PS It did cost me an additional $25 to add soft curls in my hair, but it was well worth it. I was one happy customer. Thanks Dane, you're a sweetheart! more

Great haircut and amazing people! 8/16/2010

I have been going to The Little Hair Shoppe since I moved to NYC four years ago and I haven't regretted it for a second. Over the years I have had my hair cut by Kris, Dane and Petra, and they always did an excellent job and showed meticulous attention to detail. Also, everyone who works there is very friendly and an all-around good person. I would never consider going someplace else. more

I Can't Believe How Wrong It Went 3/16/2010

There really are no guarantees in life, but when someone tells you they've been coloring hair for 10 years it's a nice feeling to get your hopes up. Alas, pretty naive too. I went to see Dustin to get my hair ""color corrected"" for a mistaken encounter with DYI hair color. While he did manage to fix it (a bit), the next time I rinsed my hair TONS of dye came streaming out. And upon closer inspection, my hair is still a myriad of colors, and by ""myriad"" I don't mean tonal, I mean random patches of reddish purple disaster. There's no possible way he didn't notice the uneven quality of his coloring job, so I can't believe that he would charge me such an outrageous amount. And then to only include 'difused' DRYING, in the cost...a total mockery of decency. But you can go if you want. Pros: The staff was nice to chat with Cons: I'm hard press to not get my money back more

Dustin is awesome! 11/17/2009

Everything about this place is amazing! Dustin gave me a great haircut and gave some killer highlights that I have been getting compliments on ever since I got it done. Everyone is so friendly and you can't beat the price. I guarentee you go in there you won't go anywhere else! Pros: Everything Cons: Absolutely none more

WHY!!! 10/27/2009

I have NO idea why this place gets such rave reviews. Yes, the owner is nice and friendly but there is NO ONE in this salon that does hair NY style. Please don't believe the hype, that's all it is...this place is way below average by NYC standards! I mean think hair cuttery with good PR and hype! LOL! Save your money, save your tresses and go somewhere else! NIGHTMARE waiting to happen...ie I just graduated beauty school by the skin of my chin and this is the only place that would hire me! They delete all the bad reviews so I hope I save at least one person from the hair horrors that lie in waiting at this salon! Pros: NOTHING! Cons: EVERYTHING! more

Dustin Is VERY Good 3/24/2009

I have been going to Petra for 4 years, and love her dearly, but I needed a cut last minute and she was on vacation. So, I went with Dustin. My hair is an uber-thick, fast growing mess, (very difficult to style, according to several past stylist) and it had been to long since my last trim. Dustin confidently took the reigns, brought my do under control, and made me look great. I received complements throughout the day and the official thumbs up from form my girlfriend. I highly recommend him! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Brilliant, honest and talented 3/19/2009

Out of convenience, i mistakenly went somewhere else and the woman gave me a MULLET!! nothing against mullets but not for me. After a week of just wearing a hairband, I visited the Little Hair Shoppe. Petra saved my social life! She is brilliant and honest. She will tell you the truth and will never try to ""sell"" you on anything. After holding back from giving her a huge hug (somehow seemed inappropriate and shallow), i vowed that i will NEVER go to anyone else again. Pros: Petra more

Don't Do Dustin! 2/23/2009

I'm a student at NYU, so I usually only get my hair cut when I go home to Georgia, but my hair had gotten too long so I reluctantly sought out a new hair place. I picked Little Hair Shopped based on the reviews here and its proximity to my dorm. When I first went in, they were more interested in ordering lunch than helping me. And while Dustin did give me a lengthy consultation, he ended up doing exactly what I didn't want. I loved my previous hair cut, I told him to just keep it like that but just cut it shorter, and instead I ended up with this horrible bob I didn't want AT ALL. And then he got snippy with me when I told him I wanted my ends more textured. I even showed him a picture of EXACTLY what I wanted and he still didn't do it. I understand artistic hair license, but when someone is telling you what they want, you just have to do it. He also left my hair completely asymmetrical so one side is much shorter than the other, making me look terrible. So now I have to wait for this horrible look to grow out. I wish I had never gone there! more

Such a great find! 12/8/2008

This salon was recommended to me by a friend over 3 years ago and I have been going ever since. I absolutely love it. While the space is small, don't be fooled into thinking this is some dinky, second-rate salon. This place is top notch! The hair stylists are knowledgeable & talented, the staff is super friendly and the prices are great. There is a reason they have such a loyal clientele. more

Best Salon in NYC 11/24/2008

With a staff as charming as the name, Little Hair Shoppe is definitely a cut above the rest! Nestled right off the Bowery in NOHO this quaint salon offers everything I have ever looked for in hair care. Maintaining great relationships and great prices is the LHS specialty. I have been a client for the past two years and I can definitely say that the vibe there is more like hanging out with friends. Walking in the door you are always remembered whether you are sitting down with Petra, Kris, Beau, Seiko, or Tracy. If you are looking for an amazing colorist then you have definitely come to the right place. Newbies beware of immitation!!! There is only one Little Hair Shoppe responsible for the best tresses in NYC and this is it!!! Pros: Prices, staff more

The Little Hair Shoppe is Awesome 7/13/2008

I've been going to The Little Hair Shoppe for five years, and everyone there -- Beau, Tracy, Petra, Todd, Dane, ""and the rest"" have always done a great job for me. Friendly, knowledgeable, so easy to work with. Tracy's a top-notch colorist and has taken me from red to sunny blonde without destroying my hair's texture, and that's not easy! She also gives a great cut without making a big deal out of it, you practically don't realize how awesome it is until a few days go by and you see how nicely everything hangs together. I always leave the shop feeling happy and prettier than when I went in and like my money has been well-spent. They really make you feel like a star!\r \r \r Pros: Relaxed atmosphere, mad hair skillz more

Tracy rocks! 6/14/2008

A few years ago my friend Kim told me about this great hair salon and I have been going ever since. Tracy always does a great job of cutting my hair! I totally trust her and get so many compliments on my hairdo. I also enjoy the background patter and antics of the other stylists. Pros: ambience, service Cons: salon will become too popular and I won't get an appointment more

I love Tracy 6/6/2008

I'm always very very happy w/ Tracy's work on my highlights - she's friendly and chatty, but also utterly professional and highly skilled - I completely trust her w/ my hair. I won't go anywhere else. The little hair shoppe is a true gem in this city. Pros: Consistent quality, friendly staff more

I love my hair, Thanks Tracey !! 6/3/2008

Tracey has been cutting my hair for over a year now . When I moved back to NYC I asked a collegue (whose hair always looked great!) to recommend a hair dresser. That was my lucky day , and the end of searching. Not only does Tracey cut my hair beautifully. We can discuss styles honestly. She tells me what will look good on me, and what will not. She has given me excellent advise on color, conditioning and maintnance. She is never 'pushy' about what I should do. Tracey respects were I am with my hair (I don't have the patience to fuss with it). I trust Tracey and my hair always looks good. The little hair shoppe is comfortable, and all the staff are relaxed and friendly. Go there. See Tracey. You will have a fantastic haircut, and a good experience. Pros: Tracey, staff and the Cookies more

My favorite place to go. 6/2/2008

The little hair shoppe is such a pleasure. It's almost like getting your hair cut in your own living room, if your living room came with really good hair stylists. Top notch service in an attitude-free place, with reasonable prices to match. I wouldn't go anywhere else.My stylist Chris did such a wonderful job on my highlights.I was so pleased. Also, I recommend any of the stylist there. In the time I was there, I only seen great work come out of that salon.I will be back and I will be sure to tell all my friends. Pros: It's a wonderful place more

I recommend this place to everyone that wants to feel at home when you get your hair done. Thanks everyone at the little hair shoppe.I will be back Pros: Affordablity and Staff more

I HATE YOU TRACY!!!! 5/25/2008

I went here to get the basics done - a Haircut and dye my hair black.TRACY made me CRY! First of all she doesn't stop talking. Secondly, after every strand of hair she ""chopped off"" she would ask me if its ok. Now if i did know, i would be doing her Job!!!!! Being a student, $200 is definitely an investment for me... especially for my hair. She did NOT stop asking me if my hair was black enough and FREAKED out, after I simply asked my friend if my previous brown could be seen slightly. She claims she gave me a haircut which i STILL CANNOT see.i look exactly the same as before i went to her, maybe even WORSE.She combed my hair and in it, my eyebrow piercing got stuck and started bleeding.By this time she saw her next customer walk in and began to tell me to ""GET OUT"". not only do I look like a butcher chopped my hair, but neither did she dry it (set/style it) nor put an OUNCE of product in my hair. Pros: The good reviews on city search Cons: The staff, TRACY, price more

BEST salon in NYC!!! 5/22/2008

Part of me doesn't want anyone else to know about The Little Hair Shoppe, but they have treated me SO WELL over the years, I want to give them all the business I can...even if it means it will be harder for me to get an appointment. :) For years, I would only go to my stylist in LA because I was too afraid to try someone in NY once I moved here. Beau was recommended to me, and now I'll never go anywhere else! \r \r They are professional, relaxed, but most importantly HIP to hair. There's no sense in paying 100+ for a haircut when you can pay less than 70 for a GREAT hair cut. I've gotten hair cuts, highlights, and a perm...I'd trust them with anything. Most of them are trained or have worked for bigger salons like Frederick Fekkai but prefer a smaller, cozier atmosphere. Petra, Chris, Beau, Robert, Tracy and everyone else are an awesome bunch of people! (Beau is my personal fave, but when he's busy they will accommodate you so I've had other stylists, and they are all great.) \r \r I had one bad perm, through NO FAULT of their's...I have extremely difficult hair to perm (It didnt look bad, it just didn't take) and they refunded me completely no questions' asked. To me, THAT is GOOD BUSINESS. A friend of mine got a bad cut at Vidal Sassoon and had to deal with months of phone tag with their corporate office, and their service was terrible. \r \r If you just need your bangs trimmed, it's only 10 dollars, and they will squeeze you in. Great for in between hair cuts! \r \r The Little Hair Shoppe is the BEST salon in NYC. HIGHLY recommended! Pros: EVERYTHING. prices, atmosphere, talented stylists, great business ethic, friendly, cozy, etc. etc. etc. Cons: Depending on your schedule, you may have to call in advance if you want a specific stylist, but otherwise NONE. more

PETRA IS AMAZING! 5/15/2008

I have curly hair and have received several awful haircuts throughout my life. Petra put an end to all that! She is a great stylist and always very honest. I once asked her for side-swept bangs, and she combed my hair to that style and asked: ""Would you really be OK with this?"" It was obvious to both of us that my hair was too short for it at the time, and she recommended growing it out and then coming back for that haircut (which I did). I used to get my hair cut at Devachan, a salon which specializes in curly hair, but the price was at least $125 (and higher now), and Petra gives just as good of a cut for us curly folk. Thanks, Petra! Pros: Price, Styling Skills, Funny Personalities, Good Laughs Cons: None, really! more

BEAU BEAU BEAU BEAU 4/3/2008

I was hesitant in writing this view, wanting to be selfish and thinking... if everyone finds out how fabulous he is how will I ever get an appointment? But i can't keep this secret to myself. This man knows what he is doing. My hair felt lighter and had a great fall to it after my cut that lasted about 2-3 months! Best cut ever! And I LOVE HIM. He's so funny and kind and warm and knowledgeable. A TREAT! And at a very reasonable price. YAY to LHS! Yay to the little family they've created their! And yay to my resident that introduced it to me! Pros: Great diver people, Hot tea on cold days, Sassy hair cuts Cons: Busy Busy Busy... last min. appointments a little difficult more
