Depending on what time of day you catch this place the Ashford, is either a dreary storefront bar in a shopping complex or the warm and welcoming pub from across the pond. I strongly suggest against showing up there before ten PM. The entrance is confusing at first. It’s not under their sign like one would naturally assume. Upon entering the atmosphere strikes me more as a small town bar you’d find in Killeen Texas, as appose to the usual diverse and metropolitan feel of Houston. The location is a bit outside the standard strips of Main, Midtown, or Rice. I will say certainly had a pub feel to it; and not that assembly line franchise pub feel either. That I am certain is due to the fact that the Ashford Arms is authentically Irish owned and operated.
Aside from the depressing atmosphere it did have during the early evening hours, it had several redeeming qualities. If you were out and about and happened to be looking for a spot like this well, you’ve found it. The parking was more than adequate for its capacity. There was certainly enough seating. It was quite obvious the pub catered to an older crowd. Although the Ashford could boast a patio it was more a porch with delusions of grandeur.
The weekly rundown; Mondays hosts karaoke night, Tuesdays pub quiz and Wednesdays are steak night starting at 5:30pm. Thursdays you can enjoy $2.75 Jagers and Saturdays live music.
