Until I turned 40, I was blessed with low-maintenance, straight hair. Since 40, I have struggled with gray, dull and frizzy hair. Finding limited success through coloring my own hair and finding a suitable hairdresser, I finally found D'Anna, who is not only a master colorist and stylist, but more of a partner in my long-term hair maintenance. I WAS IN VISITING FROM NEW YORK AND D'ANNA FROM HOT TOPS DID THE KERATIN STRAIGHTNER ON ME AND I CAN NOT EXPRESS HOW BEAUTIFUL MY HAIR LOOKS. Worst haircut + hair burned, felt like STRAW 7/17/2010

I had just moved back to Houston from NYC -- in need of a hairdresser -- when I saw that Jeff was voted "best hairdresser in Houston" by Houston Press, so I gave him a try.\r \r He's a super-nice guy, and I hate that I have write this review -- but I want you to share my experience, since it was just unreal.\r \r I have long, super-thick, naturally wavy hair. I wanted a refresh of my very well grouwn-out "flip" cut I gotten from my gal Brooke in NYC.\r \r My last haircut had movement -- and length. I got compliments about the back -- how it moved -- all the time with Brooke's cuts.\r \r Jeff stopped that! He sheared the long hair at the crown (where it would swing) to only 2 inches! (It actually "stuck up in the air" on it's own (no help from me) for about a month after the cut-- like Dennis the Menace)\r \r He cut my hair with razors at times (instead of scissors)-- I think this damaged my hair. DANIEL IS THE BEST!!!!!!! 5/11/2010

This place was recommended to me months ago. My only regret is that I didn't try it sooner. The atmosphere is great and I felt welcome the moment I walked into the shop. I knew I was in good hands. Daniel was my hair stylists and he was terrific! He was very in tune with what I wanted and what would look best on me. I am so freakin happy with my results that I will need surgery to remove this smile from my face. I can't wait til my next appointment. You must try this place! Glad I tried a new hair salon TODAY!!!!! 12/1/2009

Well I just moved in to the Montrose area and was looking for an upscale hair salon. I looked on Citysearch and found this wonderful place!!! I made an appointment for today and was greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. I received a great cut, THANK YOU Blair and had a wonderful time. They all were very busy, but not too busy to offer me refreshments. A great glass of wine with a great haircut, now how can you beat that!!!! I will be back and am thinking of coloring my hair next time. Thanks again for the great experience, SOOOOO glad I found you all. Not a good experience at all 10/21/2009

I got a horrible haircut-the worst one I've ever had- that is going to take me months to grow out. It's such a shame because I thought I had found such a great stylist. I had to cut off about 2 inches from the length (which is what I was initially trying to grow out in the 1st place) just to make it look somewhat even. I've now learned that sometimes pictures and simple communication just isn't enough. I will never go back to this salon. more

Jeffrey Parker is Tops 5/19/2009

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that Jeffrey is the sixth stylist I've had during my first year in Houston. I didn't find him because he was named Best Hairdresser by the Houston Press. Instead, the old brick building on Montrose that houses Hot Tops caught my eye, and every time I'd go by on my way home from work (around 8 or 9 pm), he was in the window working. He really listens to what you have to say and gives you an incredible cut. After an appointment with Jeffrey, I get a lot of compliments on my hair, the first time that's happened since 2004. I cannot recommend Jeff highly enough, and I like being able to call or text him directly for an appointment (713-305-7610). Jeffrey is amazing. You won't be disappointed. Jeffrey Parker-Hot Tops Greatest! 5/4/2009

Shortly, I'll be re-locating to Seattle, WA and my biggest fear is never being able to find a hairdresser like Jeffrey! He's been cutting my hair for years, which in my case having hair that is fine, thin and with multiple cowlicks is challenging! What a comfort it has been knowing a professional who understands your hair needs and is focused on the details it takes to give you an outstanding cut. Skilled and well priced! 12/12/2008

I'm 25 and have thick, longer hair; which most stylists don't know how to cut. I don't like overstyled looks, just more natural with a bit of flair. Pros: well priced, skilled, great listener, free parking, friendly staff, great environment, private Cons: I should have grabbed a free holiday cookie, but didn't! more

Jeffrey Parker is AWESOME!! 12/5/2008

I've been looking for a new hair dresser for a while now and have specifics on how I want my hair to look. I met Jeffrey and knew instantly that he'd do a great job cutting and styling my hair based on his past experience alone. He's been in the business for over 15 years and as soon as I told him how I wanted my hair cut (a few inches off the back and big sweeping bangs), after a glass of wine and a lot of great conversation, I was looking back at myself in the mirror and my hair looked EXACTLY how I wanted it to ! That RARELY happens! He's definitely got a client for life with me and I think he's just wonderful! Ask For Jeffery Parker and you won't be disappointed. : ) Jeny P. I'm so glad I reconnected with Jesse!!! 11/25/2008

I used to see Jesse at Toni and Guy @ Willowbrook mall. He moved away for a couple of years and is now BACK IN HOUSTON @ HOT TOPS HAIR STUDIO in montrose!!! I'm so excited to reconnect with him. Jesse Cougot is so amazing. I was lost when he was gone. If you live in the Montrose you have no excuse not to try him out for amazing cut and color. If you live in the burbs...the drive is worth it. He is willing to stay late on weekdays for anybody! I love you Jesse. You ROCK!!! Thank you for moving back! Pros: Ambience is far superior, a mom and pop relaxed atmosphere. more

Question about clientele? 9/11/2008

What would you all say is the average age group of their clientele? I'm 19 and go to St. Thomas which is the only reason I even saw the place, and after reading the reviews I'd love to check it out. However, I don't want to be the only one under the age of sixty there, know what I mean? :p more

From ""Soccer Mom Drab"" to ""Happy Husband Hot"" in one easy step! 7/22/2008

I am accustomed to waiting for at least a week to get an appointment at a salon, but not this time! The same day I called, I was given an appointment that evening with Jesse. He stayed late, even though the A/C was out, to take care of me. Jesse ROCKS! He listened to what I wanted, took the time to evaluate my hair and current cut and then explained everything he was going to do BEFORE he even shampooed my hair. He did some of the cutting with my hair wet, blew it dry and cut the rest. I have to say, this is the absolute best cut I have had and I would totaly recommend him to anyone! He also took into consideration my ""low maintenance"" life style and gave me a cut that I could let dry or blowdry and have it still look awesome. I expected treatment like this to cost big bucks, but the price was VERY reasonable and I have already made an appointment to go back so that I can keep my hair looking hot. I have to say the best reaction I got to my cut was from my husband...he was wowed (especially when we went out and it only took me 10 minutes to get my look together)! Thanks Jesse! more

I was a old client of MARK's. When he passed away I went to lauren, and she did a good job .but she was no MARK! After she moved salon's for the second time,I gave up following. SO I called for a appointment @HOT TOPS I called kind of late and JESSE one of the newest stylists stayed late just for me .thank Q JESSE !!!!!!!! YOU MADE ME SO HAPPY .He was very professional and did a clean job with my color & hi-lites not all over my face & clothes.HOT TOPS is the best mark would be proud .
