WOW WHAT A CHANGE!! 10/20/2009

WOW, can i just say what a refreshing change. So I have been a long term client of Bissonnet Kirby Animal Hospital, and recently found out that my old vet sold the clinic! I WAS SHOCKED, but what a change. I took my pet in on a tuesday and meet the new owner Dr. Germann and the other doctor Dr Donaruma. They were absolutely wonderful. They both sat and spoke with me in the lobby and made me really feel valued as a client. Dr Donaruma was soooo sweet to my dog, and the atmophere, yet tradional due to the historical building the clinic is in, was so fesh and new. The staff was so friendly and the guy at the front desk was so knowledgable. This place has gone thru a huge upgrade and from what I hear its going to continue groing and changing! I am very excited to see what gonna happen at my REVISED vet clinic !! Pros: Great new staff and WONDERFUL VETS Cons: Not any more more

Great vet, great staff 11/11/2007

My husband and I have been taking our animals to see Dr. Dawson for 3 years now. I have nothing but good things to say about him and his staff. They've always made time to see our animals on the same day we called for an appointment, and when our dog had to have major surgery, Dr. Dawson diagnosed the condition immediately and made a stellar recommendation for a wonderful surgeon. In my experience, the staff have always been friendly and helpful. The office is small, so they stay busy, but have always been professional and very courteous. In regards to the other reviewers, they seem to be grousing for petty reasons in my opinion. Animal care, like people care costs money, and I want a vet who is professional and knowledgeable, not one that fawns all over the animals to make the owner feel better about leaving their pets while they go on vacation. Pros: Professional staff, great location, very knowledgeable vet, clean offices more

If you're looking for a loving, attentive staff, avoid this place. 5/30/2007

Having just moved to Houston, I was a bit hesitant about boarding our Frenchie in a new place without any personal recommendations beforehand, and as it turned out, I was rightfully worried. I found Bissonnet Kirby just by Google searching for a nearby boarding kennel, and felt reassured by the fact that the kennel is also a veterinary hospital; however, when I dropped off our pup, I got an uneasy feeling as a result of the stark, unfriendly atmosphere and the aloof attitude of the staff. The workers wear no nametags and were quick to stick the dogs in the back and come right back out - no greetings or affection whatsoever toward the animals. Although their demeanor bothered me at first, what really upset me was the apparent lack of care for the animals during their stay. When we went to pick up our dog, the worker had no idea which dog was ours, assumed she was a ""he,"" put on big headphones before walking back into the room of loud, lonely barks and wails, said nothing about her stay or how things went during her FOUR days there, and practically yanked the receipt out from under my pen as he was in such a hurry to get on to his next task. Our poor dog was almost crazed with intent to get out the door - not her normal behavior when we pick her up from her usual kennel. She also felt damp when I picked her up, which I assumed was a result of the bath they advertise as included; however, I quickly noticed her hair was thick with shedded hair and old dirt, as if she had been left completely untouched the entire time. I can't be sure of this, but I can only assume her dampness was a feeble attempt to make it appear she had received a bath. Upon returning home, she urinated for so long, I was not sure she had been let out at all the night before. She was also constipated the whole day following and was obviously in pain as she tried to go ""#2,"" even though we provided her normal food. I can't say exactly what occured during her stay, but I will say I will never go back. Pros: In-house veterinarian. Cons: Unfriendly, not affectionate, inattentive. more

$55 to use a syringe? c'mon. 5/10/2006

the vet did not seem very dog friendly, and was very clinical. he did not try to reassure the dog, but brought in an assisstant to hold the dog down (which was not necessary, he was being very good.) the exam room was claustrophobic and what should have been a $45 office visit turned into $205. my dog had a cyst which the vet couldnt explain, so he drew some fluid from the swelling($55!!, i could have done that myself, and why wasnt it included in the office visit!?!?! it took a second, not exactly a high level proceedure.) and then another $100 for the lab work. two days later i have yet to hear back with the results. I don't think i'll be going back there. more
