I have been taking my dogs to the Dallas County Veterinary Hosp since 1986. Dr. Shurtleff and Dr. Clauss help me with making the right choices for the best treatment for my doggies. The techs and staff are always courteous, friendly and prompt in getting answers to my questions by phone. more

Love this place 9/30/2010

I have been taking my animals to Dr. Shurtleff for 12 or so years now. I have been very pleased with the service he and his whole staff have provided. They are a little pricy but well worth it to know that my beloved pets are taken good care of. more

Amazing Doctors.. Amazing Staff 8/3/2010

DCV has been AMAZING. We have two dogs we adopted about 7 years ago (Eli and Lily) The wonderful people there know our dogs and make us feel like they sincerely care - and I know they do. Eli has some pretty heavy duty allergy issues which has resulted in thousands of dollars of care, meds and even prescription dog food. I have no doubts that we would have paid double that somewhere else.\r \r I can't even begin to describe how wonderful the doctors are staff are here. We drive 30 minutes from our home in Rowlett to go to this vet. There are MANY closer to home - but not one has ever made us feel as welcome, or has treated us and our pets with such respect, love and compassion.\r \r To the doctors and staff - thank you. Thank you for all you do to help us keep Eli and Lily as healthy as we can. Thank you for never complaining when Eli leaves his little "presents" because he is so nervous going there. Thank you for caring for and loving our pets as if they are your own. We completel more

great VET 11/3/2009

Dallas County VET is a great place. WE take our guinea pig there and they are great to him. Not many vets will see a guinea pig, but Dallas County will and will work you into their schedule. more

BEST VET IN MESQUITE 10/29/2009

My animal was very ill with a blood clot in her lung. She is a tiny Maltese only 2 yrs old so the outcome was not expected to be good. Dr. Shurtleff treated her and was upfront and honest prior to trearment that he was'nt sure how this would work out. I paid a bill of just over $300 for some major treatment that would have cost me thousands anywhere else and my little baby is doing GREAT now. That was 6 months ago. I will not use another vet as long as Dr. Shurtleff is around. His staff is very kind and helpful as well. I have also sent other family and friends there and then in turn sent me an adorable thank you card with a coupon. And he was able to help all of those animals as well with serious conditions. Thank you guys for all you do your great! more

Response to Kristen M. 9/12/2009

I just want to respond to Kristen M.'s statements about dispensing heartworm preventative as I think this is what actually upset her. The state of Texas sets laws by which we have to follow. No veterinarian can legally dispense a prescription drug without first establishing a "doctor-patient relationship". This has been defined as an examination of the animal and a recording of their weight, temperature, and physical condition. This requirement is to protect the patient. Prescription drugs can have unwanted side effects. Heartworm preventatives are prescription drugs and can have unwanted side effects if the dog already has heartworms and so documentation of a negative heartworm test is required before this drug can be dispensed. We do care about our clients' pets and only want the best for them. We also abide by all laws of the state of Texas. Kevin Shurtleff, DVM more

Dallas County Veterinary Hosp is the worst animal clinic ever!! 8/20/2009

we have taken our dogs here numerous times. each time they charge out the arse and don't fix the problem. for example, we took one of our dogs there for removal of some tumors. they were supposed to remove them all but only took one. we didn't find this out until after we had paid and picked our dog up. when we asked why they didn't take them all off they said the other tumors wouldn't be a problem. needless to say we were back in there a few months later to get the rest, which had become problems taken off for another couple hundred dollars. after getting back another of our dogs from them he died shortly after, and not even with anything they said was wrong with him. after spending over $1000 in there they wouldn't even sell me heartguard for my new dog without a $45 first time fee, nor would they sell it to me for my other dog which they had seen before because he said he hadn't had a heartworm test. even though they've done every test known to man on him supposedly. and when the m more

Best Ever 2/26/2008

The doctors are very friendly and the nurses are charming to the pets. My puppy "Otis" LOVES when the nurses and front desk staff greet him. The doctors are very knowledgeable and very light on my pocket book. more

I love my Vet! 1/25/2008

Dr. Penny Claus is a wonderful veterinarian and I am so happy to have chosen her to treat my animals when we moved here 5 years ago. She takes the time to answer all questions and never makes me feel rushed. She cares about each of my animals' (4 dogs, 1 cat) individual quirks and is always happy to discuss issues that I may have. The Dallas County office staff is great (especially Shirley!) and they go above and beyond on a regular basis! more

Mesquite Texas Pet Care 10/17/2007

My family has used Dallas County Veterinary Hospital for our many pets over the past 15 plus years. We have only had the best of experiences and highly recommend their services. I find their prices to be average with some savings when seeing several pets at a time. They are not to be considered a bargain in pricing but they are diverse, knowledgable, and experienced. They are sincere, helpful, personable, seem to have a genuine concern for your pet. more
