Relaxation 12/2/2011

Only ever gone for the massages and there are a few different ones from Swedish to athletic/deep tissue. On all my visits, I've been happy with the services and left happy and relaxed. more

wasn't great and to much money! 10/3/2010

It's wasn't HORRIBLE but it wasn't an "aaaaa" moment either. It's just too much money when there are other places nearby that are MUCH CHEAPER but your body feeeels like it spent a LOT! People are kinda snooty too. I'm not from here but it seems that places like this almost want you to feel privileged for being there instead of thankful for your business! more

Okay - for people who like massages 4/19/2010

If my Burke Williams experience had begun with the luxurious 30-minute birthday bath and ended with a quart of the delectable cucumber water, this would be at least a four star review. Flavored spa water is nice. Soothing baths with jets and aromatic additions are too. It's the massage part that, no pun intended, puts a kink in the experience for me -- someone who hates massages. A 50-minute rub down that should be bliss is torture for someone of my ticklish/thin-skinned nature. Especially for $100+. Yet even so, if I was the type of person who could relax when being touched and probed by another person, Burke Williams would probably be the place I'd want to go for a massage. And not just because of the cucumber water and oversized robes. Pros: Cucumber water, birthday bath Cons: Expensive more

Big Disappointment 3/5/2009

Made an appointment a week in advance for seaweed wraps for my mom and I on my birthday and was assure that the seaweed wrap would be available (in December, they had stopped the treatment because they couldn't receive the product). Late in the day prior a message was left saying that the treatment was not available as they did not have the product (funny considering they require 24 hr cancellation of appts). When I called to work out another option, I learned that they knew of the problem several days before they called to notified us of the problem. On top of this, there was not offer of true apology. I cancelled and was luckily able to reschedule for seaweed wraps at Murad (even though the notice was extremely late) that were wonderful and much more reasonable (even got 20% off because it is my birthday month). Let's just say that Burke has lost my business. Cons: Can't keep promised appts more

Great overall Spa with long list of services 11/19/2008

I spend more time on the weekends at Burke Wiliams than I should admit. I appreciate that I can usually call on a Thursday or Friday and still get the services and appointment times I want. Hayley is my favorite facialist and China is my favorite massage theripist but I've found the majority of the staff to be experienced and woth the trip and money. Pros: experiened staff, appointment availabilty & good specials Cons: The showers in the ladies locker room are weak more

So so experience and odd layout 5/9/2008

I went to the Santa Monica location for a pregnancy massage. Check in was fine as was the brief tour of the space. One thing that is nice that BW does is that because pregnant women can't make use of the "perks" such as the sauna or whirlpool, they include a milk bath instead. So, I'm "picked up" in the communal room by my masseuse. We make our way down some stairs to a hallway with several individual rooms. The massage was fine, nothing special. My problem comes after the massage. When you're relaxed, calm and are ready to head back to the the main area for either your next treatment or to shower, BW Santa Monica has a surprise for you - you have to climb three flights of stairs!!!! How does this keep you relaxed!? This is true for anyone but especially if you're pregnant when being winded is common even when walking on flat ground! I was shocked and it seems totally counter-intuitive to me to have the floor plan this way. They should have either an escalator or elevator instead of making their clients hike after being in a state of deep relaxation. I don't think I'll be going back... more

The New Burke Williams? 2/20/2008

My sister got me a gift certificate to Burke Williams for my birthday and I have to say it was the best gift she has given to me in a long time. My experience at Burke Williams was relaxing and memorable. I have made several appointments for myself since my first experience but I have come to realize that it is just too far for me to be going to all the time! I live in Hollywood and am looking for something a bit closer so I don't have to stress myself out with traffic on my way to and from the spa. I hear the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel is about to open a spa, Spa Luce. If it is anything like Burke Williams, I am definitely looking forward to its arrival. more

Burke Williams Spa Expereince was Below Average 5/20/2006

I decided to go for a relaxing spa treatment. I opted for the relaxation massage with a mud bath. When I arrived at the spa it was in total chaos-- everybody was running around, talking loudly, with wall to wall people. One should be transported into a calming environment the minute you walk through the spa doors. My massage was lack luster-- like having someone lightly rub my back with oil. Even after I asked her to go deeper she didn't. The entire time I could hear people talking outside! Then I had my mud bath in a tub with a curtain around it! I paid $30.00 extra to sit in a public luke warm tub, to hear the attendants conversation! There was no ambiance, no privacy, no pampering just run of the mill herd them in and out. Don't waste your time or money at this average facility. Pros: none Cons: not worth the $, crowded, no privacy more

Royalty 3/23/2006

I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown and I went to Burke Williams. I was able to get into the whirpool and steam room with no problems. There were a few people but it wasn't very congested at all. I was abe to relax and recouperate so that I could go back to work. I received the Emiliee Intrigue and it was the best! I was so relaxed I couldn't even talk. The masseur I had did an excellent swedish and hot rock massage which was more than light strokes, but actually taking the knots out of my muscles. The best experience I had. This beats all the spas I ever been to. I'm spoiled but it's sooo expensive. Pros: toiletrees, whirpool Cons: expensive, parkng garage stinks more

Good Massage 2/8/2006

If you're looking for a good massage, I think Burke Williams is a great place to go. The only thing is that the place is huge and bit too dark for my taste... but it's not bad... it really depends on the therapist that you get. So, CHOOSE WISELY! more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!! 12/31/2005

I went to Burke Williams for the 5th time today, and each time I vow NEVER to go back. For nearly $100, I got the WORST 50-minute massage imaginable. And, this is not the first time it has happened to me. I wanted to try the new Santa Monica location because I hadn't been there since they moved. It was super packed in there, with the women crammed into the locker room like sardines. The steam and saunas were jam packed with people, and there was a wait for the showers. It has really felt as though we were going through an assembly line. But the worst part by far was how inexperienced and inadequate the masseuse was. PLEASE TRUST ME...save your money for a better spa experience somewhere else!!! more

Many great services 3/23/2005

I love the SM location- espeically since they have moved into their new building. The atmosphere is great and the staff always caters to anything you need. I highly recommend using the salon for a hair cut. All the stylists are great- I have seen all of them. And the manicure/pedicure room is so relaxing. The cool mist room is a must. Whether you are going in for a day at the spa or a quick brow wax, the experience is always wonderful. Pros: great atmosphere, great location, late evening appointm Cons: Expensive more

Inconsistent 10/6/2004

Being at a convenient Santa Monica location, I've visited Burke Williams on several occasions. I've tried various massages from the Swedish to athletic/deep tissue. On all my visits, I've been very satisfied with the services. The facials have been a whole different story. My first one I received here was good. A month and a half later, I called to book an appointment with the same person who did my facial the first time, only to find out that she had left BW. I decided to try somebody else. It was the absolute worst facial/spa service I had ever had. The esthitician didn't have a clue to what she was doing! The job she did was so poor that there was still exfoliating stuff on my face when she was done! I haven't been back since! Seems like BW is hit or miss for a quality service. Pros: facilities Cons: , inconsistent more

Great for a day to yourself 12/21/2003

I went by myself, on a whim, and was thoroughly pleased at the atmosphere...especially the "No Talking" whirlpool room - which, because most women travel in packs and like to talk, was completely empty and all mine for the 20 minutes I needed it. Water, fruit, fresh towels, bathroom amenities and a staff who keep the place looking immaculate...nothing to complain about there! The trek to the room where I got my massage was quite long and winding. But if you're going to get lost while in a post-massage stupor, it's a pretty nice spa in which to wander. Pros: good parking more
