THE BAR IS MUCH BETTER THAN MOST IN AUSTIN BUT IT STILL LACJS THE FRILLS THAT WOULD ATTRACT MORE MONEY CUSTOMERS. IT SIMPLY NEEDS CHARACTER. Pros: UPSCALE Cons: ATMOSPHERE

Did you say martini's?? 8/18/2002

You want the best martini in town? Well you will find it only at the Brown Bar. Straight up, dirty, sour apple you name it they will make it and they make it very tasty! Sit back on one of the plush couchs or snuggle in a dark corner and enjoy. My favorite bar in town. Very classy! Pros: martinis, atmosphere, the crowd Cons: parking, price more

It is a fashionalbe bar for Austin. A very New York bar. I like it because you see all walks of life dressed from jeans and boots to upscale attire. You never know who is a multi-millionare. They do a WONDERFUL dirty martini as well. I will frequent this bar often when I dine downtown. Pros: Great Drinks, Great Atmosphere, Great People Cons: None, None, None more

A bit of a throwback to the .com boom, the Brown bar remains a fine place to begin an evening. The late-night crowd can get a bit too fancy. more

Martini's galore 5/19/2002

I have to disagree with the previous two reviews. I think this bar is a great place to congregate with friends if you're trying to stay away from the college kids and enjoy a drink. My vote is two thumbs up! more

Editorial
  • This street-level lounge in the refurbished downtown Brown Building condo complex is known to typically house politicos, lobbyists and successful, single, 30-something professionals during business hours. The Turkish marble bar top, glowingly lit from underneath, is the fixture of the otherwise darkened room. The bar also serves as a waiting room adjunct for the adjoining Gumbo's restaurant. The creative, yet pricey, full bar offers everything from single malt scotch to specialty martinis like a Key Lime Pie with Absolut Vanilia, lime and pineapple juice.
