Worst

After wandering around the promenade for a bit for something new, we found the Border Grille a block away. The Carnitas Nortenas were good, with the full complement of sides- gua...

Yum 9/17/2006

Portions were huge. We had the border classic which is an appetizer platter. The plantain empanadas were my favorite. The main dishes we ordered were really hearty and satisfied the soul. It was really good. I like the guacamole and the roasted plantains that comes with the main dishes. Pros: Plantains, Guacamole more

OVER PRICED AND NOT THAT GREAT 9/12/2006

The $10 margaritas were DISGUSTING. THe Food was ok, but not worth the price they asked for! The abience is the only fun part and even that is not worth the $5 dollar parking. Pros: Cool art inside Cons: everything else more

The Happiest Happy Hour 7/22/2006

Really great food and drinks, especially for Happy Hour. Fun crowd - mostly locals (one the the benefits of not being on the promenade) Pros: Happy Hour Cons: Can get very crowded more

Great Margaritas and Mojitos 6/6/2006

This restaurant is worth every penny. I had the most delicious salmon plate the other night. Try the dessert sampler if you're feeling really decadent. Great ambience and consistently good. Pros: The Food, Drinks, Dessert Cons: Parking more

Fun Place, Pricey Margaritas 4/21/2006

I went there with my husband and a couple friends. The appetisers are yummy, this a good place to go with a fun group. It has a festive atmosphere and the drinks are delicious; albeit more expensive than just about anywhere I've been in LA. We did get top shelf, but they were 15 bucks a piece!!! I think rails are 12. Good time though! Pros: Nice Atmosphere Cons: expensive drinks more

Love the Magaritas and Mini Plates 4/2/2006

This place is great. The happy hour is a fantastic bargain. The food is yummy. I love the chile quesadilla. The service is top notch. Susan F. (one of the owners) actually comes around the tables and checks on her patrons. I love this place. Always good. Pros: Food excellent, Great Margaritas, Great service Cons: Too noisey, Crowded more

Awesome Place 2/21/2006

Loved it! Went here with a friend who insisted on Mexican, which I have gotten kind of tired of lately. Really surprised to have fresh ingredients, creative, fun menu with organic rice and beans, and awesome margaritas. We had a total blast. It was pretty hopping and waitstaff was down-to-earth and friendly. Will definitely be back!! Pros: Margaritas, Great fresh food!, Good service more

The worst 1/13/2006

The worst restaurant experience I have had anywhere. Beginning with a surly busboy (impossible to find in L.A.) and an amiable but incompetent waiter, the food arrived cold. The manager came over and sent it back. Still cold a second time. He comped dessert which was served amid the debris of chips and salsa and margarita glasses and pitchers. These two hot tamales need to do less PR and more hands on management of their restaurant. It is a disgrace! Did I mention it was my 35th wedding anniversary? Awful, awful, awful. Pros: decor, margaritas Cons: service, service, food more

Everything's good here... 12/20/2005

The food, the drinks, the chips and salsa all are great! This place rocks! I love Border Grill! I've been coming here for years and the food is consistently good. Everything on the menu is tasty. This place is pricey but so worth it. It's not your typical mexican joint. There's more variation. There's something here for everyone. You're guaranteed to love this place. Pros: food, chips and salsa, margaritas Cons: long wait, valet parking more

My Favorite Restaurant in LA 8/31/2005

Just took my boyfriend's family here last Saturday night - it was a huge hit. There were a variety of people to please and we had a terrific round of dishes - tender marinated pork, perfectly cooked skirt steak and a delicious and not-so-heavy halibut ceviche. Even the pickiest eaters enjoyed the basics (quesadillas, tacos, chile rellenos) which were awesome. I'm ususally here for the margaritas and the late night happy hour (loads of tasty apps) - took a gamble on a full dinner for a large group and it totally paid off. I will be back! Pros: FOOD, margaritas, atmosphere more

Delicious food, GREAT happy hour 7/13/2005

I love this place. Food is great- skirt steak, black bean empanadas and margaritas are all fantastic. It is not a place for a quiet evening. Very happening and lively. Pros: food, service, drinks Cons: a little loud more

Not cheap, but definitely worth it. 6/15/2005

This is not the kind of fastfood Mexican you might be used to. The dishes are creative, fresh, and always delicious. In addition to the food, I recommend trying something from their fine selection of tequilas, too. Believe it or not, a nice tequila is great for sipping before, along with, or after your meal. Pros: delicious, great service, attentive owner/chef Cons: parking more

Great Happy Hour 6/1/2005

I highly recommend the happy hour and it's great that you have the option of late night happy hour as well. The $3 dollar margaritas are good enough (for $3 anyway) but it's way worth it to spend extra for one of the premium margaritas and then chow down on the yummy, cheap ($2 i think) appetizers. The plantain black bean empandas are soooo good. more

Not what I expected 3/27/2005

We went to BG for my mom's birthday because she used to love the chefs when they were on Food Network and we had high expectations. The service was ok, but the atmosphere is not suitable for people who want conversation. I ordered the paella which was absolutely awful and I couldn't get past two bites. Only 2 out of 5 of us liked their meals and as far as mexican goes, I've had better! In fact, this was a pathetic attempt! Pros: potentially fun Cons: food more

Great food, fun place 1/6/2005

Great menu! You can't really go wrong... everything I've had here has been excellent. Appetizers are large and you can make a great meal of them. Margaritas were good, but a little on the pricey side-- not as good value as the food. Pros: Good location, Menu, Fun space more

The best Mexican food I've ever had 5/15/2002

The vegetarian plate is phenomenal. Margaritas are excellent. The atmosphere is quite festive, and the restaurant gets very loud at times. Also, during peak hours the wait can be long. There's a reason for that, though - the food is top-notch. One complaint - the salsa is mediocre. Cons: Bad salsa more
