Saturday afternoon, April 4, 2009 4/6/2009

My husband & I decided to have dinner at your new location late Saturday afternoon. We ordered the fajitta combo for two. First, the chicken & steak were completely stuck and burnt to the skillet which made it hard to scrape the meat off and the way our waitress explained the side dishes to us was totally confusing and we ended up getting two sides of black watered down cold beans. We were both very disappointed. The jambalaya was also cold. We were unable to find out waitress and when we did I told her I wanted to replace one or both of the beans with something else. She totally ignored us. All she seemed to care about was getting us out and waiting on the next table. I thought that was rather rude! We've eaten at The Border Cafe before and have always enjoyed the food but not this time. I said to my husband as we left, we won't be eating here anytime soon. Pros: Delicious Margaritta Cons: The food & service more

Best chicken quesadillas ever!!!! 3/6/2009

When I want Mexican, I go to Border. They have the most amazing chicken quesadillas I've ever had. They are big and stuffed. The entrees are very good too. I usually go with the enchiladas, tacos, or burros (yumm). They always give you salsa and chips when you sit down. And you must try the margaritas. They are fantastic!! In addition to the food, the atmosphere is very fun and lai d back. I highly recommend it!! Pros: Food, margaritas Cons: Nothing more

Absolutely horrible meal 5/1/2008

I went to Border Cafe tonite for a birthday celebration. What a mistake!! The service was very good, along with the margaritas. The food was absolutely horrible. I ordered a beef fajita and it came with enough onions on it to qualify for a migrant harvest. They then loaded a train load of hot spice on it, making it uneatable! I sent it back with quite a sour expression from the manager. I told her I was unaware that this fajita was going to be spiced as it didn't indicate it on the menu and I couldn't eat it. She took it back and not 5 minutes later brings out the filet mignon with a ton of totally raw onions on top of it. Nothing was cooked, so therefore, I went without a meal at this affair. I didn't nor couldn't do a take out bag as the food wasn't worth feeding to my dogs. The manager didn't even offer to comp the meal as I certainly didn't ask. The manager was a douchbag and didn't even give a hoot about customer relations or what people were forced to eat there. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. You want a real Mexican meal go to Jalapeno's in Gloucester. Never again. This place chupas!!!!! ahhhhhhh. Pros: Good margaritas Cons: food is horrible and management doesn't care about quality food. more

Tasty Mexican fare 10/6/2007

Being vegetarian, I would have preferred it if there were some more options. I had the vegetarian fajita and really liked it. The service is fast - it is generally pretty crowded, expecially on weekends. I am looking forward to trying more of their vegetarian options. The salsa and chips served first are good too. more

EXCELLENT... 3/21/2006

THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME HERE AND I WAS AMAZED AT HOW CROWDED IT WAS. WE WAITED 45 MINUTES FOR A TABLE. OUR TABLE WAS GIVEN TO ANOTHER PARTY WITH THE SAME NAME WHO HAD COME IN LONG AFTER US. BUT WE WERE QUICKLY GIVEN THE NEXT AVAILABLE TABLE. PREPARE TO STAND IN TIGHT QUARTERS TO WAIT WITH KIDS SWERVING IN AND OUT OF THE CROWD. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT,SERVICE WAS AVERAGE BUT VERY FRIENDLY,TABLES CLOSE TOGETHER. I WAS SURPRISED THERE WAS NO DESSERT MENU. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS ONLY BIRTHDAY CAKES. THE PRICES ARE EXCELLENT,MANY CHOICES,AND LOVE THE WARM NACHO CHIPS. LOUD ATMOSPHERE WHICH IS GREAT WHEN YOU HAVE KIDS ALONG. Pros: great food, inexpensive, friendly staff Cons: no dessert menu, tables to close, parking more

Great food! 3/22/2005

This is a one of a kind place! It is loud and gets crowded but the food is terrific! more

abv avg 5/22/2004

if you cant stand being in the same time zone as a kid dont go by, it's always packed, foods good, prices are good, drinks are good, but the best is they have options for vegans vs just two selections. call in reservations, come early and wait for a parking spot, and you wont have any complaints, they're always happy to serve Pros: good vegan selection more

Ok food . . . 5/19/2004

The food is perfectly decent if you are looking for Americanized Mexican food. Due to it's affordability, however, hordes of large families flock to it's sterling location on Route 1 S in Saugus. Notice how you weave in and out of tables crammed together, narrowly avoiding the sticky-fingered children spilling out of their chairs holding free balloons and shouting. It is not quiet. It is not quaint. There is nothing cute about it. I highly recommend takeout. Solid margaritas and great chips and salsa, that is if you can make it to your table safely. Beware the parking lot as well. Pros: cheap Cons: , loud, bad service. more

Good and cheap! 11/27/2002
