Shocking service..... try elsewhere. 2/22/2009

This is my first review, but I felt compelled to write it after the bad experience there recently. My wife and I used to eat here fairly regularly when M.Khan and VeeJay were there (excellent folks, sorely missed!) However, since the change in staff the place has gone way downhill. Thought we'd give it another chance last week.... we shouldn't have bothered. To start with, the waiter brought out cold plates. When asked to warm them up he refused as ""they had turned off the plate warmer"". We should have walked out then, but when the food arrived the rice was hard and cold (I suspect lunchtime leftovers with a half-hearted attempt to reheat). Any chef that sends that out needs to have a word with himself ! To top it off, they cooked me the wrong dish. However, the quality of what was brought correctly seemed good (apart from the rice). The waiter was too busy reading the newspaper. Finally he offered to bring the correct dish, though at that point we'd had enough and walked. You couldn't even blame the fact that they were busy as we were the only ones in there...... and with hindsight I see why.\r Poor attention to detail, poor service and judging by the menu they're not shy on the prices either. Do yourselves a favor and give this place a wide berth. Pros: None that I can think of Cons: Don't get me started....... more

Greedy waiters 1/26/2009

I would suggest not eating at that restaurant because the food is average, but you can get better service elsewhere. Waiters are average, but they expect more than 20% tip. The reason I know this is because the 2nd time we went, the waiter blabbed that the waiter that we had last time mentioned that we didn't tip very well. Cheesy more

VALENTINE DINNER BLUFF BY BOMBAY GRILLE 2/20/2008

I visited this restaurant with my friends (6 of us). The restaurant offered a valentine day special menu. The menu card stated 2 choices written as :\r \r MAHARANI DINNER FOR TWO $16.95PP (vegetarian)\r MAHARAJA DINNER FOR TWO $24.95PP (non-vegetarian)\r \r We were told by 2 employees of the restaurant that this means dinner for 2 people (a couple) at the rate of $16.95 and $ 24.95 respectively. So we found it as a good deal thinking that for a couple it will cost 16.95 for vegetarian and 24.95 for a non-vegetarian dinner. So we ordered 2 vegetarian and 1 non-vegetarian.\r The food served was not even fresh and hot. The service was extremely poor. And the biggest shock we got when the restaurant served us the check of $131 !!!!\r When we asked about this huge amount they said $16.95pp is the rate of one person of the couple. So it makes the MAHARANI DINNER A TOTAL OF $33.90 and MAHARAJA DINNER TOTAL OF $49.90 !!!!\r We argued as this was not what we were told in the beginning by the waiter and the manager there. Finally we end up paying $131 as they were not ready to accept.\r \r THIS WAS A BIG CHEATING WITH US AND OUR SENTIMENTS. WE WERE SLAPPED WITH A HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR NUTS. I WOULD WARN ANYBODY/EVERYBODY WHO IS READING THIS MESSAGE NOT TO GO TO BOMBAY GRILLE RESTAURANT. Pros: no pros Cons: lot of cons. not recommended. more

Horrible food and service 4/11/2007

Absolutely horrendous food! And, if it's possible, the service is even worse. One of the waiters had a real attitude.I had the tip added to my credit card receipt..I was told this after the credit card was run!! The food is staple, strip mall Indian, no flavor..nothing. Some of the items at the buffet were cold. Please avoid this restaurant and save your money. Many better Indian restaurants in the area. Cons: Food, service, ambience, pretty much everything more

Pretty good! 1/17/2007

I had a birthday dinner here - odd place, but no one else was there, so we had great service and good food. There was the joke that the waiter (not ours - the bitter one in the back who wasn't getting a tip) kept saying, ""Happy 40th birthday!"" Hah hah, very funny. (I'm not even close to 40, and you know how women love to be aged. Maybe this was the bad service reviewers were writing about.) The food was pretty good - the nan, kofta, etcetera. The appetizers were dry and blurred together, but the entrees were good. Also, it didn't seem to be too expensive for the 8 of us. Ambiance is a little dark, and it's in a strip mall - but food makes up for it. Pros: Good food. Cons: Too dark, in a strip mall. more

Way too expensive 5/7/2006

I had to write a review after reading about other people's experiences. I ordered take-out from the Cary location in January '06. I ordered 3 entrees, some palak paneer, and naan bread and the total came out to $67!!! The food was way too spicey, only one of the entrees was ordered spicey and they made all 3 too hot to even eat. I think there was enough left over for one more serving but I couldn't even finish it. I was not happy with how much the food costs. Pros: custom spiceyness, cute decor Cons: too expensive , portions too small more

would not honor WUNC dining card 2/26/2006

My husband and I had dinner at this restaurant tonight. We have a WUNC card, which allows us to ""buy one and get one free"" meal. We ordered our food, and when the check came, they would not honor the card. They said ""the meal your wife ordered is not one on the free list"". They would not use my husband's meal as the lesser priced meal. They would not back down at all. We ended up leaving without giving a tip. We will not return to this restaurant. Our advice would be to show the card BEFORE ordering. We were truly disappointed. more

Best Indian food and service in Cary 2/19/2006

My husband and I eat at the Bombay Grill in Cary at least once a wek and the food is always excellent and the service very friendly and responsive. I especially recommend the Shahi Korma and Madras, but everything we've had there has been delicious. The atmosphere is very nice also...not your typical Indian decor. Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere more

Nothing to say.. Just avoid 2/16/2006

Very bad experience I had here.. Very disliking, not at all Indian authentic type taste and bad ever service, plus they cry for tip.. No attention at the stock of food in buffet.. I had bad behavioural experience from waiter and Owner too... I doubt if they understand the stupidity they are doing.. Cons: Bad service, Very low grade food more

Take out-Don't get what you pay for! 6/15/2005

My husband and I have been to the lunch buffet in Cary and thought it was pretty good. So, we decided to get take out on a Thursday night and ordered the Tandoori Mix Platter. It was $20 and from the description I thought it would definately be enough for 2. Well, when we opened the box at home, there was the equivalent of 1 chicken breast, a finger of lamb and two really mushy shrimp. For 20 dollars!!?? Not to mention we payed $2 for one piece of Roti. The box had more raw onions and peppers than actual meat! While the flavors were what we expected, the kabob meat was really dry and it made us wonder if it was leftover from the buffet. The best part of the meal was the rice. Save your money and go during the lunch buffet. Don't waste your money on dinner. Cons: Expensive more

Best at night 5/7/2005

This is the restaurant that my husband and I choose most often when we go out for our anniversary. Though we only go once or twice a year, the proprieter remembers us and remembers our favorite dishes. The food is far and away the best Indian food in the area. Their lunch buffet is no better or worse than other Indian buffets, but their evening menu is truly excellent. Between the service that makes us feel like ""regulars"" from really nice people, the helpful suggestions to ensure we have a combination of dishes that work well together, and the delicate and perfectly prepared food, this is a great choice for a favorite restaurant. Pros: Friendly, FOOD!!!, authentic Cons: Bad parking more

Needs progress 4/3/2005

Bombay Grille used to be one of the best in the triangle but they seem not to have improved much since I first went there in 1998. They wold do well to add some variety and change to keep up withthe improving Triangle Indian Cuisine. more

Pretty Good! 1/20/2004

I have been eating at this restaurant every once in a while for about eight years. This is a good place to get healthy, delicious food nearly any time of the day. The service has always been prompt and friendly, and they make delicious chai. The menu and buffet are pretty much what one would expect from a typical Indian restaurant. Someone has posted a review stating dissatisfaction at how a ""free entree"" coupon was handled. I have used these on occasion and must point out that the coupon was handled appropriately - always check the fine print of your dining guide! Pros: Prompt service, Good Lunch Buffet Cons: Average Atmosphere more

Slow takeout 11/12/2002

Takeout availability is late. Several times I have tried to order takeout on the way home from work. They won't answer the phone until 5:15, and never has the order been ready before 6pm, although the restaurant opens at 5:30 and I always placed the order around 5:15. more

Food OK but very bad service 8/25/2002

Had been for lunch buffet on a weekend.Food was not bad at all. But the service was EXTREMELY BAD. Surprisingly only 1 waiter for the entire restaurant. Didnt even care to serve water when I was seated. There was an American couple too who had to stand at the door approx. 5 minutes until they were attended. Will never go back there again. more
