unique vietnamese food 10/22/2010

well i read a lot about service in chinatown and its true its not the best service but i'm not there to be treated like a king, i'm there for the food. i've been eating here for years and its just a taste you cant get at any other vietnamese restaurant. try there noodles with the soup on the side. the owner is extremely nice and speaks many languages but the staff can be a little more attentive but it doesnt bother me because i still get my food quickly...thats all i need...good food! more

Wonderful And Relaxed 9/3/2010

Not to mention the delicious smells of fresh noodle soup wafting through the restaurant and even onto the street is dizzying. I'm a natural asian-food lover, and I can very proudly say that Bo Ky is my favorite restaurant above even the fanciest rich-food restaurants I have been to in my life. Not because I am someone whom once a styrofoam cup is placed in front of me is instantly won over (which I'm not) but because I believe that the only good food out there this the delicious presence of real comfort food. I have a never-ending love affair with the beef broth with flat white noodles with bean sprouts and vegetables (oh, and a slice of lemon on the side, please!). I've noticed that most of the criticism of the other reviewers was mostly based on the service and the cheapness of the restaurant. Now, I never judge on one's story (if someone claims that a waiter was rude, I have no right to say it was wrong) but I can most definitely say from my point of view that I found the waiters very friendly and warm and were very willing to bring me even the smallest things that I asked for (whether it being an extra bowl or a measly lemon slice). So what if they give you styrofoam cups? The food is GOOD. more

Nasty services! Nasty restaurant! 8/3/2008

Melodyia ? Are you the owner of Bo Ky?\r There are cheap and good foods everywhere in Chinatown. What so a big deal of $5 a bowl or even less. They serve good Chu Chow Marinated Duck and probably for around 20 yrs. (Traditional Chu Chow style have own secret sauce they use it by boiling and adding more ingredients each day.) \r I eat out a lot in Chinatown. I usually ask my husband to order take out If I have a craving for those ducks. The waiters there to serve you are insane most of the time, taking advantages of customer who are not the type would bite or bark. If you are not over 6 feet tall and able to bear your foul looking at all time, or in a group of big guys. I suggest you better order a take out and make sure they supply the necessary sauce or dressing for the food you order before you hand them the money. So sorry it sounds ridiculous! But it was the true experiences I have everytime I visited. I am sure many people feel the same way.\r Bo Ky, if you think you are under charge your customers with excellent food, just rise the price. People only visit for the good food but the absolute rudeness kills the mood together with my appetite. Pros: Worth a try for Chu Chow Marinated Duck Cons: Nasty services, insane waiters, make such a big deal of sauces. more

Best Noodles Soup Resturant and Cheap Eat 1/23/2008

vernakular - what are you expecting? it is a noodles soup shop they wouldn't have 'plate' even if they do the plate is too large so wth are you complaining about.\r \r sherrieszeto - wth are you expecting for such a cheap price and just maybe you eat like a monster that is why the proportion isn't enough!\r \r \r I have been eatting there for many years and it still taste the good as always. If you go their order only noodles soup or dry noodles which come with a small bowl of soup. Also they are famous for their duck. So either order noodles soup or duck on rice though it might be a tad small proportion so order it with noodles soup which will fill you up more =D Pros: Tastey noodles soup and Duck plus it is cheap! Cons: non more

One of the best cheap noodle! 7/9/2007

I think BoKy is one the best cheap noodle places around. Sure it's not much of a place, the waiters are not that friendly, but hey, it's $5 for a great meal!\r My favorite one is the egg noodle with wontons get extra meatballs and soup on the side! Pros: Good food, cheap (super cheap!) Cons: Service not that great more

Average food. Misanthropic server kills appetite and mood. 10/26/2006

This is the type of place you go to if you were dining alone and didn't want to spend a lot of money. The food is all right. Not great, not horrible. I would have gone back if not for the rudeness we experienced from one of the servers (the others were fine). One server (who seemed like the son of the owner) had a bad attitude. We ordered the spring rolls, pork on rice, mustard greens, duck, and Cambodian Noodle Soup. A rather abundance of food for two people. I asked the waiter for a plate. He snapped back: ""we don't give out plates."" ""you don't give out plates? Not even if we want some?"" He paused and then relented, ""we have BOWLS,"" correcting me as he reluctantly gave us some. Not sure why he was being difficult but this kind of service boggles my mind because it is so unnecessary, especially when there are many other restaurants to choose from in the neighborhood. Food wise, nothing stood as amazing particularly and given the misanthropic server's attitude, I will never go back more

Big bowl with very little noodles 2/16/2006

Yea it smells good just standing outside the restaurant. Though I find that the portions are very small. An idea of what you will see eating there? Foam cups with tea, disposible chopstix and not much on the menu to choose from. Forget about the fried noodle, pork fried dumplings or even chicken fried rice. After eating there, I felt like I should had went some where else. Pros: Seating Cons: not much food, service was ok more

no way 6/27/2005

i suggest you think twice if you want to visit this restaurant the service was really bad and don't even think of getting delivery cause the person that answers the phone is gonna hang up on you just like they did to me more

Great Viet Food 5/23/2005

This is definitely one of the places that I have continued to come back to over the years. I usually get one the Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup. Their duck here is also absolutely delicious. You can eat gourmet food at a fast food price. Pros: close to MOCA, close to Ice Cream, Close to Shopping more

Great food, great prices 3/28/2004

This restaurant actually serves Chieu Chow style (a group of ethnic Chinese people who came from Vietnam) foods. The country duck is one of their most famous menu dishes. The taste is completely different for people who have only eaten Chinese styled barbecue meats. The duck is slowly braised in a special marinade. It is absolutely delicious and flavorful. The best foods are the noodle soups. Be daring, try it ""dry"" and they will give you soup on the side and add spices and oils to toss the hot noodles. What's great is that you can create your own combination adding and picking whatever you want in the bowl. Great comfort food any day. Pros: Noodles, Country Duck, Price more
