consistently satisfying meals! 11/12/2007

We so enjoy eating at Bistro Aix. My latest pet peeve about SF restaurants is the inconsistency in preparing the basics, but this is never a problem here. Our favorites are the hamburgers, roast chicken, and thin crust pizza. We live in the neighborhood and Steve always makes us feel welcome, even when the place is mobbed. It can be crowded and the chairs on the patio are not that comfortable, but I always leave smiling (in part because the prices are so reasonable). more

Sit outside on the heated garden patio 5/20/2007

We called up on a Saturday morning hoping for a table for 8 people on the patio between 7-9pm that night. Left a message on the answering service and received a call back a few hours later- able to book a table for 9pm. Of course, we were late for dinner, and they'd given our table away, but we didn't wait long before another table opened up on the patio. Most people at our table ate the ahi and seemed rather jazzed about it. I had the beet salad and the spaghetti- which was actually quite delicious. I'm vegetarian, so always ask the server for their advice, and was really surprised at how good the spaghetti was. I'm not normally a spaghetti kinda gal, but it really rocked. The service was good, the atmosphere was awesome. The wine list needs to diversify a bit- seemed to only have low-end & high-end wines with very little in between. Besides the disappointing wine list, the restrooms were also fairly filthy. Other than that, it was brilliant! Pros: garden patio Cons: limited wine list, no online reservation, dirty bathroom more

delightful surprise! 9/11/2006

we showed up as walk-ins on a sunday evening and got very lucky....this is a great restaurant! the waiters handled us with total gratitude and were very accomodating. everyone seemed happy to be working there and we felt welcomed instantly. we tried the seared tuna and the chicken dinners and a couple of salads as appetizers and every course my boyfriend and i looked at eachother with total happiness! we will definitely go back. Pros: very nice waitstaff, generally happy place Cons: no parking more

great value 3/27/2006

stumbled upon this place while visiting the city. great food and very resonalbe prices. we had steak and wine and the bill was not out of this world. there were 5 of us in the party and we sat in the back garden. it was chilly but the heat lamps helped. i would go back again and i don't even live in SF. compared to places i have eaten in Seattle and LA, this place was a good deal. i love saving a buck or two! more

Great spot for group functions 1/9/2006

We had a party this past weekend of 30 people in the upstairs room. It was GREAT - a huge success for a 40th b-day! Everyone raved about the food & the service. I would highly recommend this spot for dinner anytime, but especially for a group function. The private room upstairs had plenty of room for 30, its own bar and restroom/coat closet. The restaurant gives excellent choices for group functions, and printed up custom menus for the event. The staff was very professional and attentive. The food (we chose choices of a pasta, chicken and lamb main entrees) was outstanding. Great value, too. Very impressed with this place - will certainly go back. Pros: Private party set up, Food, Service more

Great food. 10/19/2005

This place is one of the few good spots to eat around the Marina. Great food (the steak is fabulous and the service is A1!. Pros: food Cons: very hot inside more

Glad I tried it 5/2/2004

I had heard mixed things about Bistro Aix and I see it all the time. I finally tried it this weekend and was very pleased. The waitstaff was attentive and helpful, and allowed me to customize my choice of entree with a different side dish. Service was quick, the pizza was outstanding thin crust, and my chicken was extremely moist on the inside, crisp on the outside. I shared two desserts, the chocolate torte and apple pie. Both were amazing and the plates were licked clean. Pros: attentive service, flavorful, inexpensive more

Great Food, Great Services 3/3/2004

Go to Bistro A|X once a month and have always been please by the service and quality of the food. One my last visit with had reservations for a peak time on the weekend and they were running 20-30 min late. The hostess gave us a complimentary bottle of wine for waiting. While this could be expected by some, no other place in SF has done this before. Just an example of their great service. Bar can get a bit crowded but only because they are doing so well. Pros: Food, Inexpensive, Outdoor Seating more

Great neighborhood spot 2/9/2004

This is the best restaurant in the Marina. I eat here about once a month and LOVE it. The thing I like most about it is that they do French bistro food in a straightforward, honest way - no trendy hype, just GOOD. It's a great value for the quality of food - especially their prix fixe menu. The garden patio is romantic and cozy, but I also like eating up at the bar when it's just me and a friend. The duck confit salad is rich and delicious. Get the grilled top sirlion with fries... it's divine. They bake their own bread, and I wish they'd sell it to the public, because it is yummy! Pros: great food, ambiance, friendly staff, excellent value more

Loved it! 1/5/2003

Great deal! 8/5/2002

Wow! Six people at the table - we shared 4 appetizers, 3 bottles of wine, we each ordered our own entree, and shared 3 desserts -- All that for about $50 per person! Not bad when we all splurged the way we did! Large portions!! Good food! Service was very prompt and attentive as well... more

My FAVORITE! 7/17/2002

My favorite restaurant for a nice dinner with a date or a casual dinner with friends. The service is always very friendly and attentive. The portions are large and the food is wonderful. I have eaten here many times and ordered (or tasted) almost everything on the menu and I have never been disappointed. The back patio is nice on a warm evening or on a cool one with the heat lamps on. They are very accomodating for large parties as well. Pros: Food, Ambience, Service more

Great food & wine - friendly staff 5/27/2002

I've been eating at Bistro Aix for ages. I find the ambiance there very pleasant. The host/hostess is always accomodating - even without a reservation. We like to either eat at the bar (the bartender is very attentive) or in the back under the heat lamps. It's a great date spot. My favorite meals there are either the Risotto, the Seared Tuna or the Lamb. They are all fantastic. The wine list is extensive as well. The Creme Brulee is very nice as well. Pros: Great service, Great food & prices, Extensive wine list Cons: Parking can be tough, No rm for lg parties more
