Pleasantly surprised 12/17/2011

It took a few minutes to be greeted and seated, but that was the only disappointment of the evening. Once we were seated and the waiter showed up things started moving quickly. The appetizers arrived surprisingly quickly and were excellent, the vinaigrette they put on the salad was awesome, and the main dishes were incredible! Good portions, hot and fast service, and the best creme brulee we've found in Utah. This place has been on our list of restaurants to visit for a few years, now I'm glad we finally went but sad that it took us so long to get there. The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting and the decor is welcoming. We're adding this to our list of local favorites and we will definitely be back! more

Great Food 2/25/2011

One of the best restaurants in Ogden. It is local, and sometimes the owner is there mingling with guests; he's a really nice guy. The wine menu is fairly good, the food even better. Rice bowls for lunch are terrific. Diner items and specials have never disappointed. The best tomato bisque ever. The only down is the service is on the slow side so don't go if you are in a rush. Go relaxed as europeans do and you will have an excellent experience. more

Best Place to Eat in Ogden! 8/11/2010

I went to Bistro 258 last night with a group of friends and it was amazing. Great food, great staff and the atmosphere was awesome. I couldn't stop eating the food was so good, my husband agreed it was well worth the trip from Draper!! I can't wait to go back and introduce more of my friends to this fabulous find! more

Best Selection in Ogden 5/11/2010

I have had numerous opportunities to sample the local flavor of Ogden since moving here last year. Every time I eat at the Bistro I am reminded why I come back. I love the atmosphere, the friendly wait staff and of course the food! It's a local favorite for a reason! The menu is awesome and I will continue to come back again and again! Pros: Run don't walk to Bistro 258 Cons: Not enough people know about this gem! more

Fraudulent charges!! 3/21/2010

I dined at this restaurant last night, and authorized a charge for $86 (inclusive tips). When I looked on my bank account this morning, they took out TWO amounts, one for $104.60 and one for $164.60. Neither one of course was authorized. I am not sure if the waiters cannot be trusted, or what the deal was, but needless to say I will not eat there again. Edit - Delete Cons: Cannot be trusted?? more

One of the Best Sandwiches I've had 8/22/2009

My wife and I had lunch there today and were very impressed. My wife ordered the fish tacos and said they were great. I ordered this chicken, strawberry club sandwich at the recommendation of my waiter, and was surprised at how great it was. I'm already craving another. Seriously, it was that good. I had fries with mine, and I don't see how it would be possible to make fries any better. One other note, I really liked the sliced strawberry's they put in out waters. I'm not typically up in Ogden, but I will certainly go there again when in the area. Too bad they aren't located closer to my home in Lehi. Pros: Their Menu was awesome - lot's of great food more

My Favorite Place 3/17/2009

This is my Favorite place in Ogden to go out for a nice dinner. I eat at other places for a quick bite, but when I want something really good I come here. They creative chefs have designed a fanastic menu that has something for everyone. There staff is great and I enjoy coming here again and again. I found their website so that I can talk my co-workers into going there for Lunch. bistro258.blogspot. Pros: Atmosphere and great menu Cons: Nothing comes to mind more

Great Service 3/7/2009

We had read a few bad reviews and a few more good reviews about this place and decided to take a chance. We are glad we did. The food was great, my new york steak had a little too much fat (I hate fat on my steak), but the steak was big enough that I could cut the fat off and still walk out stuffed. They have an excellent spinach artichoke dip. The martinis were great. There garlic mashed potatoes were great. They had our table ready for us when we walked in the door with bread and butter waiting, strawberry slices in our water, and fresh flowers. The service was AWESOME!!!! We give this restaurant five stars and will definitely go there again. Pros: strawberry slices in the water, fresh flowers at your table, service, fast seating and food Cons: the staff needs a place away from the guests to socialize more

Best place when in town 1/11/2009

I live in Southern California and travel to Utah often for business meetings. I stopped at this restaurant initially due to the location (by the Marriott). On the first visit (a few years ago), the chocolate souflee was recommended. What an amazing treat it was after a great dinner. Since then, I have brought my team as well as customers there for dinners. The restaurant is cozy (I too have had the private room which is perfect for small parties), and it is a great choice for mixing dinner with good discussions. Pros: Ambience is quiet and cozy, clean, well rounded full meals and drinks more

One of my favorites 1/8/2009

I can not say enough good things about this place. The food was AMAZING. The service was impecable! I hosted a very small baby shower(only 4 of us). They let me drop off the centerpiece the day before and kept it. When we arrived, we got our own small room, the centerpiece was on the table and they gave us flowers on the table. We got water with strawberries(festive and delicious). They tended to our every needs and the owner came in to say hello and congratulate the mom to be. It was the most wonderful experience. The price is not too high and the food is worth every penny. I can not wait to eat there again. Pros: loved it all more

Service so bad, we walked out 11/29/2008

My husband and I made a 7pm reservation at Bistro 258 last night for one of our infrequent and highly anticipated date nights. We showed up at the restaurant at 5 'til seven and were shown to a table and given a basket of bland, chalky bread. We sat there for TEN MINUTES while waitstaff bustled around the more than half empty restaurant. We watched the manager greet the table next to us and chat with two women. We were completely ignored until five after seven, when I told my husband that we're leaving. I cannot imagine why a nice restaurant would completely ignore a table during those first crucial minutes it has to impress. We will not be going back there and we would never recommend it to anyone we like. Pros: good location Cons: terrible service more

Excellent food, cheery atmosphere 4/21/2008

I am saddened to see so many negative reviews for this establishment! However, I can understand the frustration that comes with poor service. I have frequented this restaurant for the better part of a year and have been through both owners. The food is great with choices for everyone (portobella ravioli... YUM!) and although the service can be trying at times it has improved considerably! In addition there are servers that have been there for a very long time and it is easy to request a server that you enjoy! Pros: Food, wine list Cons: service more

My new favorite restaurant! 10/29/2007

I was pleasantly surprised upon first entering Bistro 258. Frankly I didn't believe a restaurant like this could exist in Ogden. My wife and I were seated and serviced promptly. I had the Princess Penne and my wife the Seared Ahi. Both entrees were amazing, as was the soup du jour (Creamy Potato w/ Leek) and the seasonal dessert (Pumpkin cheesecake w/ gingerbread crust!) Pros: Ambience, Food, Service, Parking, Close to Megaplex more

A diamond in the rough of Ogden 7/26/2007

I was recently introduced to this restaurant by a business associate about a month ago. Since then I have returned more than six times, with various family, friends and collegues at work, each of whom has been equally satisfied. The atmospere is fantastic, as is the food. Each time I have been to visit, I have tried something new and have been thrilled to find that each entree is not only unique, but tasty. more

Below average food and service at an above average price 7/17/2007

I was told about the Bistro by a friend and thought I would see what all the hype was about. I was unfortunately disappointed by the experience. Our server was lacking in knowledge about the specials, the wine list, and the ingredients of the menu items. I ordered a fillet mignon rare, ($23), which is my absolute favorite cut of meat only to be served an overcooked and gamy steak that had the texture of a sirloin and the consistency of a london broil. My wife had the salmon special, and although the server told us that it was wild caught, we both agree that it was farmed and not very tasty. The owner was working on the floor that night and he approached us after the meal to ask how everything was and what he could do to make it better. After explaining to him the aforementioned critique of his cuisine, he assured us that he would get to the bottom of the issues and blamed the his restaurant's faults on the fact that he had just bought the business and was in the process of reshaping it to his liking. I understand that the transition is probably difficult, but after hearing the praise that my friend gave the restaurant, I can't understand how it went downhill so fast. Perhaps our food was prepared by a new chef in training and our server didn't yet know the menu, but I can't excuse such poor service or an overcooked fillet. When all was said and done, my wife and I had spent over sixty dollars on a meal that neither of us enjoyed, and although the owner promised to make it right, he never offered to comp us a meal or even our appetizer. I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone. Rooster's right across the street has an excellent wait staff and better food at a better price. Pros: good parking, nice atmosphere Cons: overpriced, bad service, limited wine list, overbearing and chatty owner more

By far, the best restaurant in Ogden 1/5/2007

I've had the pleasure of eating at this restuarant on several occasions, and have been impressed every time. The waitstaff is knowledgable about daily specials, and deliver the food relatively quickly. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, quiet, and intimate (a great place for a romantic dinner). The food has been excellent each time I've visited. I'd recommend the seared ahi tuna (is a bit on the salty side, though) and the mediterranean pasta. The soups and salads are appetizing as well. The wine list is limited, but includes many decent options. more

Green servers 10/8/2006

Went there with my in-laws on a Friday for lunch. This online review says they have a respectable wine list. That's true, if you want one type of wine. Our waitress said she'd never taken a wine order before and was totally flustered. My husband ordered a syrah and she brought a glass with a tiny tiny pour. She said that was the last of the bottle but she would try to find more. She then came back and said she didn't think there was any more. My husband ordered another type of wine. She came back, this time with another glass and a huge pour. My husband tried it and asked her if that was what he had ordered. She said ""no"". When asked what it was, she said ""I don't know, it was just an open bottle."" Now, I know everyone is going to say, ""but you are in Utah, what do you expect."" This is what I expect; if a restaurant has a wine list, respectable or not, I expect there to be wine. I also expect the wait staff to be able to provide the wine in a professional manner. more
