Wonderful food 9/3/2007

My wife and I ventured to this small Greek & Italian place two years ago and we've been hooked ever since. It is a small mom & pop place - literally. There is one waiter and his wife does the cooking. We've tried just about everything on the menu and it is all fabulous. The manicotti and the salmon (Solomos Plaki) are two of the best dishes here. The appetizers are tasty but small. One appetizer for every two people is a good rule here. The desserts are a treat - especially the kataife or the cocunut cake.\r \r The prices are low so don't expect huge portions. The food is well worth the price.\r \r This is not fast food, nor is it a place for kids. If you want a nice relaxing dinner with plenty of time for conversation then this is the place for you. Most of the tables are small - make reservations if you have more than four people so that he can be ready for you.\r \r There is nothing fancy about the decor. The service can get slow if there are lots of tables going. Your food is well worth your patience! Definitely order appetizers if there are three or more tables going when you walk in. Pros: Great food, friendly service Cons: service can get slow when busy more

Kitschy Corner 8/11/2007

Since it's in donwtown Kent we had our reservations. Ambiance can improve a dining experience even when the food is under par, I felt as if I was in a old cafe turned Greek by putting up 10 year old posters in cheap frames.. The food was good, by far not the best value in town. For a Village Plate at $22 we thought we would get a large portion and therefore decided to share, good thing we weren't too hungry. The Souvlaki Kabob was the size of a satay stick at a Thai restaurant, not large juicy morsels of meat you find in other great Greek restaurants. The plate of hummous was very small and bland in flavor. The moussaki didn't even have Bechamel sauce on top of it as described on menu. The dessert was awful, they heated our Bacchlava and it tasted like dough. Even the espresso was simply rich dark coffee. They had one waiter in the whole restaurant that didn't even have time to clear tables and was too overexteneded to give the dining experience any charm. Pros: decent tasting food Cons: value, cheap ambiance more

Love this place! 5/11/2007

I just love Greek food and this place is a nice surprise in downtown Kent. Nothing fancy, but a nice atmosphere that's relaxing and welcoming. I've been there several times and each time the food and service has been excellent. The owner is warm and friendly, and helpful with suggestions without being overbearing. I've tried several different dishes and all were delicious, especially the moussaka. The spanakopita was very good too, moist and flaky. But the real highlight here is dessert - be sure to save room! The dessert wines are a nice treat as well and complement well. The prices are quite reasonable. Overall I thoroughly enjoy myself when I go there and so have the friends I've brought. Definitely recommend! Pros: great food, friendly atmosphere, good prices Cons: on the small side, might want to call if you have a large group more

Outstanding Greek Cooking 2/26/2007

After several visits to Soprano's with my wife, I've decided I have to take a moment to recommend this great little Greek/Italian Restaurant. It?s become one of our favorites in the area. If you prefer supporting a family business over chain restaurant; if you like being served by an owner who can answer your every question; if you love authentic Greek cooking, then you'll thoroughly enjoy dining at Soprano's. Everything I've tried (and I think I've covered almost half the menu now) has been outstanding. If you're new to Greek cooking they have some nice sample platters to get you acquainted with the different items. The wine list compliments the menu well, and the prices are very reasonable. Try the Chianti with one of the lamb choices, and don't forget desert. The Baklava is the best, and they carry a couple excellent desert wines. As I said at the beginning it?s a small restaurant. It isn?t fancy, but it?s very authentic, and always spotlessly clean. Enjoy! more
