Decent theater, high prices 9/30/2005

This is a decent theater. It's got everything that the other newer places have, but with slightly more charm. It plays some movies you can't see at the big megaplexes, which is nice. Took some driving around to find it, though. My biggest complaint is that the prices are high. I went to a Saturday maninee and it cost as much as a night-time show. And with tickets being up in the $9 range now, that was a lot for a matinee. Park across the lot across the street, if you can. Doing some dining or shopping, since this area is pretty nice. Grab some popcorn and enjoy the film! more

Discover a Sleeper 8/5/2005

If you're tired of Hollywood nonsense, try Bethesda Row. They have independent films that are entertaining and actually contain some originality. We love coming down here to grab a bite at one of the many restaurants and then checking out a movie. This is where we first saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding before it made it big. more

Landmark Bethesda is great for independent flicks 6/29/2005

Before Landmark opened its new E St theatre downtown and drove Visions out of business, its Bethesda Row Cinema stood out as one of the best places in DC to see independent films in a "real movie theatre" setting. What makes this theatre so awesome is that it plays both the big shots in independent flicks and the tiny no-names. And you can sit in the relative comfort of cushy stadium seating to watch them on big screens. Landmark also gives away remarkable numbers of free passes to its numerous screenings (which usually feature special guests like the actors, writers, or producers of the movies) and also usually has free CDs featuring some of the best music from independent movies from the previous year.
