We are counting down to October 1st, 2010 when we will celebrate our "30 Years in Business". By that time we should be in our new and updated building which is going through the planning stages at our architect's office right now. The Salon will stay open during construction. 2 of our stylists, Marco and Carmen, just returned from Las Vegas where they attended an intensive Training from Goldwell. They shared what they have learned with the rest of our stylists, Tresha, Alisha and Angelina. Our entire crew is now ready to share the new colors and color techniques with their clients. I looked around for a grown up salon because I needed to find one stylist who could work with my particular hair issues. A friend took me to Benno's and I've been happy with them ever since. Shannie has been working on my hair and she's just terrific. I appreciate the approach she takes to her work, and I also like how the stylists consult with each other. I've been a client of Benno of Germany located in Tacoma, Washington for 7 years. I live in Puyallup and still drive to Tacoma for my haircut and color. Sometimes, this is a 40 minute drive depending on traffic. The stylists enjoy their profession, which shows in the quality of work. I have seen a lot of happy customers leave with lovely hair and who laughed and enjoyed their visit as much as I. I have very curly, thick hair. My stylist, Marco, has an amazing talent for cutting my hair so that it will style the way I like it. Not an easy task. Marco is a good listener. He truly wants his clients to be satisfied with his work. The best part about my haircuts is that they still look good even after 4 weeks, and Marco is always willing to give free bang trims anytime. The salon is small, yet charming and down to earth. They supports various charities throughout the year such as the breast cancer walk and gathering food for the homeless during the holidays. I've been a customer at Benno of Germany for at least 16 years and maybe more. Marco and Tresha have been my stylists and they are both amazing. They listen but more than that they talk. Just because I wanted the latest hair style doesn't mean it will look good with my facial structure; they remind me of that and we go from there. Marco has a special place in my heart because I started out with him and we've had some really fun times. I've come to know him fairly well and know that he would make sure you're satisfied with your hair. Tresha is a darling and has become a good friend to me. She cracks me up and I love sitting in her chair because we have such a good time. The staff there all get along great and have respect for each other. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. I especially couldn't go anywhere that was uppity and not "real". I enjoy knowing these people intimately and that they know me. They know my children's names and my grandchildren's names. I have been a client of Benno of Germany for well over 10 years. They take pride in giving service of excellence. When you walk in, it's like coming home. Everyone is friendly including the clients. Whether you are new to the shop or a seasoned client, everyone is treated with utmost respect. more

I know what you are talking about! That is the most pompous salon I have ever stepped foot into. I would never recommend this place to a friend or family! The manager bounces around and is obnoxious and demeaning. more

I read the rave review on Judy's Book and decided to try Benno's. WHat a mistake. the girl cut my hair at least an inch shorter than I told her to. Then when I got upset the manager came over and said " I knew she didn't understand what you meant" and proceeded to make me feel like it was all my fault. I was so freaked out by my short hair that I shut down. All I wanted to do was LEAVE! I was thinking "if you knew she didn't understand , why didn't you say anything?" Don't go to this shop unless you don't care how your hair looks when you leave. What a nightmare! The worst part was that the manager completely didn't care that I was dis-satisfied. more

First of all I want to thank our clients who have posted reviews of our business and for Judy's book for allowing this to happen. Lately we have received quite a few new customers who said they found us on the Judy's book site. In October we will celebrate our 26th Anniversary. I would like to thank all of the men and women who have become our loyal customers during those many years and have made it possible for us to stay in business for such a long time. I also want to thank all stylists, present and past, for helping to make Benno of Germany a successful Salon. I have seen many salons come and go during this time and I think it is no accident that our doors are still open. I have always stressed customer service and continued education to all of my employees. We charge more than many salons but less than some of the better known ones. Some salons spend a lot of money on advertising and to portray and image. Our advertising has mostly been by word of mouth and we greatly appreciate our customers who feel satisfied enough with our services and share their experiences at Benno of Germany with their families, friends and co-workers. We have a system in place to reward our customers for spreading the word. Your services could be almost free for referring enough people to us. Right now we have 5 stylists/colorists working at our Salon. Marco, who also manages the salon, has been at Benno of Germany for over 13 years. Tresha has been here almost as long. The newer stylists are Lynette, Shanni, and Sarah, all three have gone through an apprentice training period with Marco and have attended extensive training courses for color with Goldwell and for make-up with Sebastian and their Trucco Line. We carry full lines of KMS, Goldwell and Trucco products. I was instrumental in bringing Goldwell, the German Color Line, to Tacoma and the surrounding area over 20some years ago and have had continued education for my stylist from them ever since. My employees are well trained and can pretty much solve any color problem or will be honest enough to let you know if there is no way to fix it in one application and that it might take several applications or even visits to get you look your best again without ruining your hair. The first time I went to Benno, I thought it was unusual because all the customers seemed to know each other. I later realized this wasn't the case. Rather, the stylists there are so warm and genunine, that an atmosphere of "family" has crept in, and you can't help but join in the chorus of light banter. With Marco at the helm, customers are matched up with a stylist not only by hair style specialty, but by personality as well. By your 3rd or 4th time, not only will you know each of the stylists by first name (and they'll know you!!), but you may find yourself lingering behind after your appointment as you become engaged in conversation with another customer. Benno is a truly welcome and refreshing change from both the up-tight atmospheres of the new Salon/Spas, as well as the "drive-thru" haircut chains that seem to be our only choice in affordability anymore. Besides being friendly, every style, every foil and every up-do I've ever received from them have been better than anyplace I've ever frequented (including the most expensive salons!) The stylists at Benno's are the best. They are all very talented and great at listening to what people want. My personal favorite is Laurel, but I've seen the work that they all do and it's great. The banter between the stylists, especially Laurel and manager Marco, is an absolute hoot. Laurel is sort of like Karen Walker on Will and Grace. They also offer makeup and a nail tech. more
