Best Pizza in Portland! 7/20/2009

Best Pizza in Portland! For sure! I used to live ten mins away from Bella and would go at least once a week to get a slice. Now I live 45 mins away and still make the trip out there, it's worth it for that amazing crust! And for those who complain about poor service... what do you want 'em to wash your feet while they make your pizza for you? Tell you what a wonderful person you are? How proud they are of you for finding your way into their establishment? Get a clue. You want to be pampered, go to a massage parlor or call your mom. You want Hella Awesome pizza, go to Bella Faccia. The closest thing to real italian pizza I've had anywhere in this city. They know how to make some damn good 'Za! Grazie, Bella Faccia! Molto Bene! Pros: pizza, terminal gravity, vegan pizza Cons: 45 mins away from where i live (by bike) more

okay pizza, terrible service 12/4/2008

Pizza's alright. Service sux. If you don't want to work at a pizza joint, then don't! Please don't make us poor schlubs who just want a slice deal with your hipster-waiter angst. Those big '80s glasses look stupid on you, too. Pros: on Alberta Cons: everyone who works there more

And I don't even like NY pizza 10/3/2008

I'm a west coastie who didn't grow up on NY style, and I have to say in general I prefer a sturdier, heartier pizza. But Bella Faccia has me won over. Even if it wasn't in my neighborhood I'd go out of the way for it. There's a Hot Lips closer that will deliver (Bella Faccia doesn't), but even that won't make me change allegiances. The sauce is flavorful--it actually tastes like tomato and not generic ""sauce"". We always get takeout because the place itself is very small. The staff there won't coddle you, but I don't consider that bad service. To me, poor service means you don't get what you asked for or it takes an unreasonably long time to get it. Their job is to get you your food, that's it, and here they do it well. Maybe they won't read the signs for you if you won't read 'em for yourself, and yes, they enforce a strict no-cell-phone policy at the counter and WILL walk away if you ignore it. I say, good for them! Great pizza, fast service, and I don't want anything else from a neighborhood pizza place. Pros: Great food, competent service Cons: Tiny more

Eat this pally! 6/27/2008

Wow, anyone who does not like this pizza must prefer Cavone pizza like Dominoes, or they think that escape from NY is really good because of their one cup of oil to every slice ratio.\r I am from the New York area, and I lived in NYC for 4 years, and I have to say...\r get the cheese pizza, it is where it is at! If you can't take the service then think about all the clowns who ride bikes without helmets, or car drivers who are allergic to using turn signals in this town.\r When you are in the Alberta Arts district, forget Tin Shed (they are the sanctimonious white bread restaurant!) go for the Bella baby!!!!! Pros: Food Cons: Service more

Pepperoni is my fave! 6/22/2008

Pizza is yummy and not your every day tasting pizza, totally unique. You can buy by the slice or order a pie of your own, I love how they feature two ""specialty"" pizzas every day, helps me to broaden my horizons - even though the pepperoni is my fave! The staff there is pretty friendly also. The drawbacks is that there isn't a lot of room to move around in there, and if it's the summer you'll really want to get outdoor seating because it is HOT in there, just get it to go though, enjoy it at home. Parking can be a pain on the weekends and evenings, but such is Alberta right? Pros: Great tasting pizza! Cons: seating is hard to get at times and it's usually stuffy in there! more

CITYDORK 11/21/2007

Seriously, the person below me is a F*CKING DORK. Bella's has some of the best pizza in town. P-I-Z-Z-A. more

on the counter 8/8/2007

i eat out a lot. all the time. and i have come to love the pizza at bella faccia. the slices are really pretty big and are not too saucey and not drowned in cheese. the counter girls are super fast and can move a line out the door and to the street pretty quick. at times they might be a little impatceint, but i wouldn't go as far to call them rude. \r \r they have salads too. the greek salad is excellent. i love that they use red leaf lettuce. it has the perfect amount of toppings. if it is just you, only order the mini. their salads are huge. as for the caesar salad, i wish they wouldn't skimp so much on the caesar dressing though. \r \r they have terminal gravity ipa on tap! which is the perfect match for pizza. \r \r all in all, i would highly recommend bella faccia. good food. fast and fairly friendly service and super cheep. they have the best happy hour in town. and even as a meet eater, their vegan pies are to die for. SOOOOOOOooooooo good.\r \r Pros: great pizza...fast Cons: children more

Lousy customer service 6/29/2007

The pizza was so, so. I've had lots better and lots worse. What I found frustrating is that he counter help on each of the three occasions was incredibly rude! The first time the gal was busy visiting with another customer so I waited. She then took a personal cell phone call. When it was my turn to order she acted as though it wasn't in her contract to explain what the various slices of pizza were. She walked away. The guy making the pizza came to take my order. I tried it again several months later. Same thing, different employee. She was just blatantly rude. Third time (I live a block from the place) the counter help told me that I'd have to giver her exact change as she didn't have change and didn't know where the owner was. Haven't been back since - don't plan to. Pros: In the neighboorhood. Offer vegan Cons: Poor customer service more

Good pizza - not great, but good 12/26/2006

Their vegan pizza is the best I've had in Portland so far. This place is a little cramped, but service is prompt and the food is pretty good. Not the best pizza in the world, but I'd go here over many other places in town. Pros: yummy vegan pizza - a rare find more

Some of Portland's worst: 12/5/2006

I chose this place based on reviews and the rating given it. Where have all you people been? The salad was done nicely and it gets about a 7.5. The pizza? Not fit for man nor beast. We had it split, one-half a margharite and one half peperonni and mushrooms. No one could stand the margharite. It was made with the same tomato sauce, the same mozarella cheese and some tomatoes sliced on it with the basil backed with the pie. Either they need a new chef to define what a margharite pizza should be or re-name it quit profaining the classical recipe. Othwerwise the crust was burned on the bottom, gooey on the top of the very thin crust and one which the four of us mostly picked at and left. \r \r Seating is likewise horrible. Do I recall correctly? Two tables that will seat four but never enough room for the tray with all the goodies in it, the 18"" pizza, plates and dfrinks. \r My advice: don't waste your time or money on this joint. It doesn't rise above the level of a joint. Even the slice discounts certain nights a week can't make this joint worth the effort and money. Cons: Thumbs down more

those girls know how to work a line! 10/22/2006

You can check out what I have to say about it here. I've also reviewed a lot of other portland pizza joints on my quest to find the best slice!\r \r portlandpizza.wordpress (dot)com more

Best pizza in Portland so far 10/11/2006

I'm originally from back east so I've had real NYC Pizza (just last weekend actually), Big Pizza in Adams Morgan (DC) and the Italian Store Pizza (Arlington, VA). This is the best pizza I've had in Portland thus far. Thin enough that you need 2 hands to hold a slice. Could be a little greasier:) A full pie is a bit pricey but 1 or 2 slices will fill you up. Would recommend that they serve a White Pizza (Garlic and Olive Oil) with slices of tomatoes. Yummy. Pros: Closest to east coast pizza Cons: Bit pricey but not so bad for just slices more

pretty good... 4/22/2006

We ordered some pizza to go... The pizza was pretty good... if it was $5 cheaper I would be much more likely to return. It's just mediocre enough to make me wonder why I would ever spend $25 on a 16"" pizza. The service was fabulous, though. Pros: fresh ingredients, customer service Cons: too expensive more

Look hard, you might miss it 8/31/2005

Not the kind of place you are driving by and decide to stop in. The pizza slices were very good, I tried three different varieties and liked them all. Only complaint I have is the temperature of the pizza slices, they cook the slices after your order and it seems the cook times varied depending on how many other customers were at the counter. 2 of the 3 slices I had were barely on the warm side. Pros: sauce, size of slices, variety of toppings Cons: pizza temperature more

Tasty pies, sometimes unpleasant service 5/26/2005

The food here is excellent. Order a fresh whole pizza for yourself and some friends and you will be amazed. Expect the folks who work there to not say a word to you and look at you like ""where did you come from and why are you here, wasting my time?"" Pros: Good fresh pizza Cons: poor service. more

Pizza is good even if not fresh. Atmosphere is funky in a good way. Waitstaff could drop the 'tude and it'd be better, I always feel like I'm imposing by walking in the door. Pros: Good za more

almost flawless 2/27/2004

A wonderful place on almost every level. I have been a regular since it opened. Fantastic crust, perfect sauce, all kinds of super high quality toppings, and great cheese. Patio is wonderful in summer. Service is portland typical.(i.e. lousy) But I don't need to be made to feel special. That pizza and great salads are all I need. Pros: quality, value, laid back Cons: , crowded, service more

vegan slices 4/3/2003

They always have a vegan pie, and you can get individual slice from it for $3-- huge triangles that they warm up for you in the oven, just like in NYC. The space is warm and fun, lit by amazing lamps made by the artist across the street and decorated with an assortment of paintings. Pros: vegan! slices!, those rad lamps Cons: not cheeeap, not in my hood more
